I think some of them not singing the US national anthem is dumb - it's a privilege to represent your country on an international level in sport, even if you feel it has flaws; but - at least from what I've seen - it's maybe only about a 1/3rd (or less) who don't seem do it and I've never heard any of them say they have no respect for the US or it's veterans. That's not to say they shouldn't be above criticism; some of them have come across as quite arrogant (not just in the US, but also internationally); which you can kinda get away with when you're winning, but not when you're losing.
In Soccer or Football as we Europeans call it, if you are a severe underdog then many times your role is to hang in there. There are many formations and tactical plays like parking the bus, that you can employ to essentially weather the storm and wait to spring the rare counter attack and steal a goal, or score from say set pieces. If you pull this off as a team it is often seen as a tactical masterclass by the manager and team of the underdog side.

Are these the reasons that at the women's U20 and U17 the US has been floundering for many years? The youth world cups are more like a Spanish/Japanese invitational tournament. Those who say the rest of the world has "caught up" and "we've lost the joy" are missing the picture. The US was passed some time ago. US development is about physicality, speed, individual technical skills, pay for play... ODP, National team and university teams measure players' 40 yard dash times as a key criteria, and take note of a player doing double-scissor moves and isolated turn moves. Does Barca's youth academy line kids up to measure their 40 meter dash times? Should they have clocked Aitana and Busquets? To use an American equivalent, it's like measuring Tom Brady on track and field metrics and failing to note that he tends to make good decisions. Europe is producing creative, size-variable, tactical players who are promoted based, in part, on decision making, awareness, creativity, tactical IQ, etc.. This is not about passion, gender rights, ego... it's because players can think and pass the ball faster than players can run and now that European/Japanese etc teams can field teams with 22 capable players, they will continue to move the ball around our athletic individuals. The US men's side is at least in part on the right track, drawing from players who develop in European-styled systems. The women's side is going to hover in the 5-10 range until they realize this isn't just about wanting it more. It's about changing national selections to weight towards players with characteristics needed to be successful in the modern game. Those players exist, largely in the fringes of the US development system.
The USWNT started to turn their own country against them in 2019 when they ran up the score against Thailand 13-0 and celebrated each goal like they had won the Cup. They followed this up with a 3-0 win over Chile where they mocked their detractors using a “golf clap” to celebrate. This was humiliating for Chile. These remarkable displays of poor sportsmanship were embarrassing for their country on the world stage.
How many starters were we missing on this roster? 4, possibly 5....in order of their cycle-ending injuries - Sam Mewis, Macario, Press, Pugh-Swanson and Capt. Becky. More than a few would not have even been on this roster if they were healthy. Add to that the most talented of all our players, Rose Lavelle, was not in top form, had a very bogus yellow card in Portugal game and crucial in defeating Sweden. So if you all are going to talk about the USWNT, than learn the huge obstacles this team has had to endure these past 2 yrs....besides having a coach the did set his team up in successful, rotating, non-predictable schemes! And for the love of all that's good.....why isn't Dawn Scott still with USWNT?

The final score was 13-0 and members of our team showed ZERO class and respect for the other team when they were celebrating the 6th-13th goals as if it they were playing in the Final. After Rapinoe scored the 9th goal she ran and then slid on her butt while kicking one of her legs in the air. It was disgusting! Again, ZERO class! I think some of them not singing the US national anthem is dumb - it's a privilege to represent your country on an international level in sport, even if you feel it has flaws; but - at least from what I've seen - it's maybe only about a 1/3rd (or less) who don't seem do it and I've never heard any of them say they have no respect for the US or it's veterans. That's not to say they shouldn't be above criticism; some of them have come across as quite arrogant (not just in the US, but also internationally); which you can kinda get away with when you're winning, but not when you're losing.

In Soccer or Football as we Europeans call it, if you are a severe underdog then many times your role is to hang in there. There are many formations and tactical plays like parking the bus, that you can employ to essentially weather the storm and wait to spring the rare counter attack and steal a goal, or score from say set pieces. If you pull this off as a team it is often seen as a tactical masterclass by the manager and team of the underdog side.

The rationale for why the US lost is off-target. Most of what is written is about emotional deficiencies or political views. Are these the reasons that at the women's U20 and U17 the US has been floundering for many years? The youth world cups are more like a Spanish/Japanese invitational tournament. Those who say the rest of the world has "caught up" and "we've lost the joy" are missing the picture. The US was passed some time ago. US development is about physicality, speed, individual technical skills, pay for play... ODP, National team and university teams measure players' 40 yard dash times as a key criteria, and take note of a player doing double-scissor moves and isolated turn moves. Does Barca's youth academy line kids up to measure their 40 meter dash times? Should they have clocked Aitana and Busquets? To use an American equivalent, it's like measuring Tom Brady on track and field metrics and failing to note that he tends to make good decisions. Europe is producing creative, size-variable, tactical players who are promoted based, in part, on decision making, awareness, creativity, tactical IQ, etc.. This is not about passion, gender rights, ego... it's because players can think and pass the ball faster than players can run and now that European/Japanese etc teams can field teams with 22 capable players, they will continue to move the ball around our athletic individuals. The US men's side is at least in part on the right track, drawing from players who develop in European-styled systems. The women's side is going to hover in the 5-10 range until they realize this isn't just about wanting it more. It's about changing national selections to weight towards players with characteristics needed to be successful in the modern game. Those players exist, largely in the fringes of the US development system.
They are missing the point why americans disapprove of the Womens NATIONAL team. It has nothing to do with missing the PK or losing the game.

The USWNT started to turn their own country against them in 2019 when they ran up the score against Thailand 13-0 and celebrated each goal like they had won the Cup. They followed this up with a 3-0 win over Chile where they mocked their detractors using a “golf clap” to celebrate. This was humiliating for Chile. These remarkable displays of poor sportsmanship were embarrassing for their country on the world stage.
How many starters were we missing on this roster? 4, possibly 5....in order of their cycle-ending injuries - Sam Mewis, Macario, Press, Pugh-Swanson and Capt. Becky. More than a few would not have even been on this roster if they were healthy. Add to that the most talented of all our players, Rose Lavelle, was not in top form, had a very bogus yellow card in Portugal game and crucial in defeating Sweden. So if you all are going to talk about the USWNT, than learn the huge obstacles this team has had to endure these past 2 yrs....besides having a coach the did set his team up in successful, rotating, non-predictable schemes! And for the love of all that's good.....why isn't Dawn Scott still with USWNT?

When the team out there does not give off the impression that they are playing for the United States then a lot of us don’t root for them as such. I have uncles who served in the marines and navy and I’ve never seen them once put their hand over their heart when the anthem is played at a sporting event. The USWNT started losing my support when they played Thailand in the 2019 WC. The final score was 13-0 and members of our team showed ZERO class and respect for the other team when they were celebrating the 6th-13th goals as if it they were playing in the Final. After Rapinoe scored the 9th goal she ran and then slid on her butt while kicking one of her legs in the air. It was disgusting! Again, ZERO class!
Between that, the equal pay issue [then falling well short of expectations out of this WC], Rapinoe's antics, Rapinoe and Morgan saying they would welcome trans men in women's sports [excluding their own positions, I'm sure], their kneeling for the anthem and/or not showing respect to our flag and anthem, it all adds up to a team not worth respecting or rooting for. As many others have said, how can I cheer for players who seem to hate America or it isn't entirely clear who they are playing for?
It also doesn't help that the main stream media puts out oblivious trash pieces against Americans happy that this team lost.

It's jealousy and envy. Doug stanhope explained this best. These people rooting against them think they have a right to say who is a patriot and who isn't. Most of this is simply jealously and envy. People are in unhappy and unsatisfying relationships, are broke, lives going nowhere, work crap jobs, living in their glory days, but see these women who are literally living their best lives and not caring what any of us think and they cannot stand it. These women are traveling the world, making money, asking for more money, promoting their social media brands, getting endorsements, getting first class treatment where ever they go, get invited to meet politicans and go if they feel like it, and are winning gold medals and world cups for their country. And even after a loss are smiling and doing autograph sessions because they know their lives are great and will go on. They are doing everything these losers rooting against them wish they could do and even though i'm not really a rapinoe fan, I think it is safe to say she has accomplished more in her life than at least 90 percent of the people rooting against her.
If you are someone who literally rooted for vietnam to beat the USA you really have some problems. I don't think these people have read a book and may need to stream either the deer hunter, platoon, or dead presidents if they want to see how ridiculous that view is. These women have committed no crimes but yet are considered unamerican?
