    For one perhaps you should pull the airbag fuse before hand. Something else i will add is that when you take out a 2 piece DS and put in a one piece your going to experience a slight vibration. Do not accept it, take the time to balance the DS on the car. Driveline vibration will cause bearing damage over a long period of time depending on how bad it is. Take the time to support the car on all 4 corners ,pull the wheels and get to it. I used a simple vibration app with my android .

If you were on the Dyno upwards of 200mph, you might have reached that with the one piece, longer driveshaft, and it might have gotten slightly out of balance. you might be onto something with the other failures you have seen that were with a one piece driveshaft. I am thinking twice now about replacing my 2 piece driveshaft with a 1 piece one.

    The 10 speed should be the same unit as the one in the Muatang. The only major failure of the 10 speed so far i have seen is the valve body or clutch pack failure in high horsepower twin turbo builds.
    But this is prob the first time i ever saw a transmission exploded and catch fire.
    Also because of the trans exploding caused the air bags to go off was def a first time i ever saw that as well.
    Unless there is a rig to just test the trans and the custom drive shaft alone. It would be hard to nail what cause the trans to go kaboom.
    Prob the driveshaft is too stiff and during the downshifts send shock to the weakest part of the drivetrain? Was the half shaft and diff upgraded?
    Lucky the fire was contained quickly and not spread all over. If not the damage would have been really bad.

    I'm wondering if failures are somehow linked to the One-Piece driveshafts longer length, than 2 piece. This lowers the critical speed of the driveshaft and creates more driveshaft whipping at high driveshaft RPM. If that whipping is loading up the tailshaft of the transmission, causing failures. I'm not a driveshaft expert, but have driveshaft experience with class 8 trucks with very long driveshaft spans, and that is why 2 piece or even 3 piece driveshafts are employed usually. I'm surprised a company has not come out with a better 2 piece driveshaft to remedy stock weaknesses.

    • @SLOGOAT219
      @SLOGOAT219 Před rokem

      Going to a 1pc definitely introduces some driveline vibrations. They are probably hidden by factory soft rubber engine mounts.
      I was under the impression that they do a 2 pc in cars like this due to having no angle between the trans yoke and diff. They are usually level with eachother and maybe only slightly offset to the side so you would end up with the ujoints on a normal driveshaft coming into a bind

    • @EssMotorsports
      @EssMotorsports Před rokem

      @SLOGOAT219 whenever I would speak with driveshaft companies, they wanted very little angle. Less than 1 degree. Multiple peices is more of a length issue

    I just liked the video and subscribed, but I really disagree with a certain point. And that’s fine, we can disagree.
    I went to a shop and explicitly requested a new motor and transmission. The shop owner said I should do a rebuild instead. Since he knows more than me, that’s what I did and it was under warranty.
    I then had the same shop put a Whipple on my Camaro. Within a week the high flow cats melted and the front seal was pushed out of the motor leaving it trashed. Also, he didn’t install a catch can. He had the stock tube running to the intake of the Whipple.
    He did ALL the work on the car and it blew up within a week after the mods that I believe were done incorrectly. In that case, I believe the shop should be liable for the repairs.
    That ended up costing me probably about $14,000 and I’m not happy about it.
    I ended up getting a Texas Speed LS3 416 with the aluminum block, modifying the valve covers to install a catch can, and a couple of other things. I don’t feel that I should have been responsible since I took all of his professional advice and he did all the work to the car from the start.
    And he also said, “Oh yeah, I should’ve told you that putting a supercharger on it voids the warranty.” Yeah…probably should’ve mentioned that before the car blew up in a week!

    • @completestreetperformance
      @completestreetperformance  Před rokem

      We are very up front about our disclaimer, but to your story it's a little different than a random part failure.
      It sounds like cats failed and took out the engine, cats that likely were not meant for boost. Probably just standard cheapo cats. If an upgrade to them wasn't recommended I'd say there is some shared responsibility. I'm not saying full responsibility, but work and parts at cost is what I would expect. Here, we just wouldn't have done the work with standard cats and no catch can because of our experience. This tends to happen with shops that are new, competing on price. And unfortunately experience comes right after you needed it.
      But make no mistake, there is virtually never a warranty when you mod your car, especially to the degree you went by adding boost.
      I certainly wouldn't expect you or the shop to be happy about the failure. We are in this for the passion of cars, and it's a disappointment all around when something fails.
      I've ate a few engines over my 15 years in the industry from our mistakes. We stand behind what we do. But that's really installation errors. When it comes to exceeding power limits, that's the risk of modifying a car. Sadly, that limit is a line that you don't know where it will be. There are certain expectations where the line is and it gets exponentially more likely to cross it. But once you cross it, boom - no coming back.

    There's no way I would take my car to a "professional" for modifications and they don't retain at least 30% responsibility for it. I haven't met a tuner that doesn't run cars hotter than they should without letting it cool.

      so a car making close to 1000whp that has over 200 dyno runs breaks a part and you some how think a GT500 is going to be perfect? Parts break all the time, most time it's something small but this time it happen to be something big. When you start making close to double the HP the parts were built to handle you are bound to break something.
      Good luck with the GT500, great cars and make great power with little mods but I would still keep some money in the bank for broken parts.
