Basic physics concept. Going fast would make less damage unless the pothole is huge. What they can do is see the hole first and then drive the car.

X5 slowed down to cross it but the range rover kept going fast. Both suvs have the same height from ground but I'm this case you should keep going fast in order to cross with no damage. Take the 5 series for example @00:12 it's a car and didn't hit cz it was going fast.
