I’m really into doing manuals myself and so I have one question for you, what if you could design the perfect bike for doing manuals on trails, what would be the geometry numbers? for instance how long would you have your chain stay? How slack would you have your head angle? what would be the perfect bottom bracket height and the right reach for a optimal body position while doing manuals?

Hey Jeff! thanks for the review on the H Rise. I'm the proud owner of a H15, I'm in north tahoe and trail ride (light enduro) stuff. My daily was a first Gen Hightower current ly set up MX with DPx2 rear, 160mm Fox 36. Love that bike, however the wife bought me the H15 and I'm having a blast! I've just picked up a 160 air spring for the 36 however you got my attention with the BurgTec offset addition to this test bike. Can you speak to the choice of changing the shock offset vs lengthing the fork? I am also running a Renthal 33mm stem. The Rise is just shy of 600mi on the odometer... makes me giggle like a kid, even though I've been riding mtb since '81. Oh as always impressive manuals! My manual game on this bike needs work, wheelies ok, manuals are inconsitiant. :0

Orbea really pushed the eMTB world with the original Rise and the Hydro was a great evolution of the Rise lineup to bring similar performance with an eye on pricing. Like you mentioned, there are some limitations to how burly you can get with this bike but we think this is Orbea's test platform for something cool coming that's more related to the Rallon. We don't have the inside scoop on that (yet) but this is our suspicion.

    • @JeffKendallWeed

Thanks for another great video in the Orbea line.....the dropper post lenght is something I am very interested in. In the technical Blue Papers of the Rise I read the following: Rise Size "L" with 150mm dropper post, the minimum is 695mm and the maximum 824mm. For the Rise in "XL" it is 744mm and 874mm. I have an inseam of 880mm, so the XL with 150mm should suit me fine, because I do never fully stretch my legs while riding....or am I wrong?

Hmm, I rented an Orbea Wild E bike in Durango a couple of months ago. Brand new, out of the box and it came with the Bosch motor. The Wild being a bigger, longer range bike?

I finally demo'd an EMTB last week in Santa Cruz: Turbo Levo.
I was shocked how effortless they are; I went on a 12 mile ride and didn't
even break a sweat. I wonder what Jeff sets his power output to? On this demo since I wanted to test out the capability I left it at 100%.
My Verdict on Ebikes: I will no longer be a hater, but view them as a separate category entirely.
I still do value that Cardio component of this sport! And look forward to the challenge when I go out for a ride. So I still appreciate pedaling until I have joint issues ( 50 now with no issues yet.). Eventually I'll pull the trigger on one.....LOL.

Spire is more like the enduro from what I hear - I had an enduro and went to a patrol (just picked it up this week)
So far the patrol is a riot. I feel it pedals just as well as the enduro - however the bottom bracket is low even in the high position. Expect pedal strikes on tech climbs. It's manageable with a high engagement hub and good pedal placement.
I feel like the patrol is more playful. Easier to throw around - but slightly Less "plush" - better trail feel.
so far I like the patrol more than the enduro - I did change from sram to shimano and rockshox to fox with the bike changeover. The aluminum patrol definitely has a great spec - I went with the XT build and don't feel like I need to change anything (other than grips and saddle)
I have yet to ride the bike in the low position - once I get it out to a downhill park I'll try it out - but I expect it to be a rocket.

A lightweight carbon 42lb long travel Enduro with something like the new Fazua Ride60 system or the TQ motor from the Trek EXe and enough juice to do 20 miles and 5000ft is all I need. The Kenevo SL would be about perfect if it had a better lightweight motor like the TQ or Fazua, the specialized SL 1.1 is just a little too weak in comparison.

Can't wait until technology get's to the point where larger travel e-bikes (170/150) get to about 40lbs with decent range.

We are soooo close to being there… range depends on your expectations. I can get 5k of vert out of the Rise, but that’s ~2.5 hrs for our local trails. When it’s flatter, it can go waaaay longer- but it’s hard to find trails rough enough that aren’t surer steep.
