- As Celtic start pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, we're back to look through the current squad and decide who we should keep, who we should bin and who we need more from.
Brendan Rodgers led the Hoops to a league and cup double in 2023/24 but throughout the campaign the lack of depth and quality in the squad was a constant point of debate. Going into the new season, Celtic are in a very strong financial position which means the transfer business will be under the microscope. But who in the current squad do the club need to move on this summer?

Kuhn is another one who we should not be giving another 6 months to a season to see if he comes good. Seen enough of him to know he hasn't got the heart to fill that jersey. Its worrying he was a Rodgers signing. The only reason we'll keep him is because no one will want him and he's sitting on a 5 and a half year contract.

I disagree on Mikey Johnston & Yang 'bin' - I think you're grossly overestimating the calibre of player Celtic can get. 1,768 minutes played and 13 G/A for Johnston is outstanding statistically, especially considering he did that after missing the whole of pre-season with a knee injury. Johnston has the pedigree required & if he stays clear of injury in pre-season I think he could be on the cusp of a really productive season - for me the big concern with Johnston is that he's just always injured. I also think that is harsh on Yang - showed flashes of form where he was outstanding, including showing the ability to come inside & play secondary assists for overlapping full-back, midfielder (and ran out of steam at the end of the season). I also think that is harsh on Palma not to be in 'keep' - he had a great start to the season, including performing at CL level, & had to adapt to really bad weather in Scotland. Everything else I agree with.
The only pedigree Johnston has is a bad one.
@@jmcc2275 Wheesht with the orc-like witch-hunt against Mikey Johnston - to any self-respecting & objective Celtic fan it's embarrassing - from a Moneyball statistical viewpoint his Goal/Assist per minute ratio was one of the best in the Championship (if not the best). The only concern regarding his pedigree is whether at 25 he comes into his man-strength, or, if he is just too injury prone to ever be a real top player.
Think Palma will prove people wrong this season with the right attitude he is technicly great and could be a big player for us this season n capable of a wonder strike..or corner

No more 'prospect' signings, PLEASE! Get that biscuit-tin off of Lawwell; crack it open & start getting in some experienced, quality players @ Lennoxtown - especially in the areas that *all* Celtic fans know that we desperately need to be sorted in our 'problem' positions... We *must* spend some money to get a really top-quality goalkeeper & big Adam Idah back in for starters... and then sort out the defence / midfield / forwards.
And, at the same time, start clearing out all the 'bench-warmers' , & 'prospects' from last Season who are just a drain on our wages bill and have offered nothing in return to the 1st team successes. @@hoggybhoy1967 Hiya buddy! Ma' two laddies aside... Aye, there have been quite a lot of times when I've seen Japanese Celtic supporters. There's two big CSC's that I know of, in Tokyo & Osaka, and quite a few slightly smaller ones.
Celtic are really admired & respected in Japan because of our attacking, passing-style & our attempt to play the game the 'Celtic way'. Cheers to you & yours from a 60 + yrs., life-long Glasgow Celtic fanatic. Awrabest! #COYBIG

--> Your rankings are spot-on. My only difference is with Greg Taylor. I'd like to say "Bin" him, but I recognize the hard work he puts in. However, I really think we need to bring in a new left back to replace him, and put him on the bench, not bin him.
--> CCV did *not* acquit himself very well in Copa America, so I think we don't have to worry about him leaving anytime soon. Maybe at the winter break, if he redeems himself in Champions League play.
--> AJ, however, really played well in the Copa group stage. He plays Venezuela tomorrow. I think he'll do well. If he does well in CL, he might be on the move next year.

You did a good job rating the squad IMO. Holm is a need more/bin tweener for me. One player you forget: Johnny Kenny. 5-year deal signed in January 2022. Out on loan. Never played for Celtic. In the bin category?

Good to see you back mate. Don’t get the keep Bain welsh thing but. Even ralston and scales for me are nowhere near it. We all spoke about Kyogos struggles also, and for me you need to look at our wingers to see why he struggled! Some of the worse wingers I’ve seen at the club tbh. Kuhn Yang palma all not good enough and forrest isn’t going to give us 50 games next season.our wing play is awful and far to powderpuff! Some real bang average dross in that squad!
I just think Bain and Welsh will stay. Bain is happy to be 3rd choice. Welsh has a contract and don’t expect interest in him.

Pre season starts early when European champs and American competition is still on. We haven't got anyone still in Germany but Johnston is playing for Canada still.

In terms of Kuhn you seem to have forgot about what Rodger’s said about him having health issues especially weight so I don’t think you can be too hard on him till he gets a pre season under his belt and see how he is progressing after that but don’t judge him on a season he’s been dealing with health issues 👍

As far as youth goes add Daniel Kelly into keep. Possible chances for Oluwayemi, Lawal, Dane Murray, Frame and Summers this preseason 👍🏻

Unfortunately I'd bet my house Matt O'Reilly is off,so I think in addition to a goalkeeper a replacement for him is a top priority,although unlikely again to be as lucky in finding his quality so cheaply.

Get a bit of discussion going by ranking Celtic's fan media against other clubs and more importantly our club's own historical standards. Here is some ideas for question to throw out there:
How many of our channels come across as armchair managers trying to read tealeaves about players they've barely seen play?
Do the younger, brighter and more tactically astute sections of our fan media *need* to slide down into the "Innovate for profit" model and fall into the dreary abyss of clickbait?
Would it maybe be better for fan media channels to focus on the people in the terraces rather than the players on the park during the closed season?
and one I am sure you will be very interested in:
About half of the most successful "content" "creators" are overtly political and the Celtic support is an overtly political family who make headlines in the traditional media every day by agreeing, and disagreeing, about a great many things, from bus routes to geopolitical quagmires. With all that in mind what does the distinct lack of Celtic fan media channels which incorporate the politics of the day into the way they deliver news about the team tell us about who we are as a club, and a fanbase?
It occurs to me that a lot of fan media out there may have a lot more in common with Lawwell than they realise on this last one (womp womp)
