    Cities Skylines Industries:
In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.
    Key Features:
    - MAKE IT HAPPEN
Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.
    - CAPTAIN YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Define an area with the industry area tool and place highly specialized industrial buildings to build and manage the production chain from raw material extraction up to final end product. Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. These areas can level up upon reaching productions goals and staffing requirements.
    - BUILD IT UP, BUTTERCUP
New industrial buildings include Extractors, Warehouse Facilities, Processing and Auxiliary Buildings, Industrial Props and Roads. Unique Factories, such as Food, Toy, Furniture, Car and Electronics produce luxury products, and require a large number of workers, water and electricity as well as input from your industries.
    - GO POSTAL
Boost your citizens’ well-being with mail delivery and collection services. Post sorting facilities handle mail between outside connections and the post offices, and new Post Van and Truck vehicles enable the carriage.

I do love a good roundabout, but I don't like to treat it as the ultimate go-to solution to traffic. One thing I love about Traffic Management mod is the timed traffic lights. People take traffic lights for granted and immediately remove them because there are no repercussions for road accidents (doesn't even exist). It adds realism as traffic lights are everywhere in real life, and it feels good when you can you can achieve a nice flow on a timed traffic light.

I've been looking at what red roads mean more carefully - it seems to increase when cars are doing less than the assigned speed limit. You must get a small "up tick" whenever a vehicle is delayed, which decays to zero in time. The more vehicles delayed the redder it gets - it's not really about "busy". Sharp bends and corners also cause red. Obvs stationary queues are the worst. The traffic score might improve just by reducing speed limits! Next test :-) Keep up the good content Biffa!

With the lane mathematics, I actually prefer adding a lane rather than removing lanes. I think it looks a bit better, and functions the same way. Although I pretty much never use more than 2 lanes for straight roads, so that's one reason why.

  • @anthony_hw
    @anthony_hw Před 4 lety +7

#7 Weaving: making sure that your on-off ramps, and junctions, are not too close to each other. This is why the 4-leaf clover sucks in real life (and the game) for handling heavy traffic. Because it can't no matter what you do.
#8 would be the road hierarchy of freeway, main road, connection road, and no outlet roads. Arrange them properly and traffic doesn't build up on small roads.
#9 Finally, cramming high-traffic causing buildings next to each other. The simple act of leaving space in between industrial buildings gives traffic room to maneuver. Looks cool, too.

    • @MephistoDerPudel
      @MephistoDerPudel Před 4 lety +1

The 4-leaf clover is a design with a small footprint and only one bridge. That's why it's probably the most popular design anywhere. Also weaving in the real world isn't as big a problem as in the game, where it only happens on one note. Also the scales are often way off in the game. I've built custom three way stacks based on measurements from google maps and the vanilla one was just tiny in comparison. If you stop cramping everything as close together as possible and allow the game some amount of realistic scaling, you're traffic problems will also disappear quite fast.
The weaving zone of a cloverleaf is often like 250m long. Thats at least 100m longer then ingame.

@@aznguymetal I was raised in LA on a small two-lane road in one of the South Bay cities. I think I have an idea of your perspective, but Cities:Skylines road reconstruction is far simpler than Los Angeles road reconstruction. There are four-lane roads in the game that use the same space as two-lane roads, so they can be upgraded in place without moving buildings. Six- and eight-lane roads should not be used as local roads but as main roads with few intersections, just a step under highways.

I have been progressing throughout the 15 tiles which helped a ton and I have used 1/3 of the map, changed a lot of things here and there to keep things moving, experimenting and less pressure on the traffic. over 17M cash, +135k population. Reworked plenty of things and the cargo is heavily needed by trains in the same map as the first clip.
I have been having fun with the mods and move it mod especially. Even though everything is from your help.

I just wanted to say, that I do also take the extra step: Making sure that cars from the middle lane are the ones who can switch to the right-hand lane and the right-hand lane can only switch in the middle (or stay, obviously). The left-hand lane can bypass everything. Cars have to sort themselves out a little further, which may also increase the flow as well as adds a little bit of help (no left-hand to right-hand switching in that node) ^^

I remember now that I used to do "lane management" on each and every roundabouts, asking people to do like in real life. One lane for off (or two if 6 lanes afterwards xD) and then the other lanes were to downgrade on the lane progression of the roundabout. Could you please make a little test of your version and this version to see which one is better ? I mean, I can't test anymore, my PC is to broken now, can't launch the game :/

Biffa, excellent video on exposing your secrets to unclogging traffic. You forgot to add simply despawning all the cars. 😆 Seriously, I noticed the three lane highway you use for a roundabout is walled. Is there a reason for this? Why not one without said wall? 🤔 Thanks...

It's not just in Cities, people in real life generally don't mind walking a long way, if it saves them a car ride.
I live in a town that has been voted to have the worst mass transit in the country, but instead of subsidising busses, they invested in walking bridges over the main roads, between the residential areas and the industrial areas. Traffic cleared right up!
They also put in a lane on one of the two motorways that is only for vehicles with more than 1 person in it, so that condensed the transit a lot as well. Most cars still only have 1 person in them, but about 20% started car pooling, so that's 10% of the cars gone right there.

I understand, but in the developers said they want it accessible to people. I appreciate that. I play on PC on vanilla & a few DLCs. When I get past 40K pop, my game starts to glitch a bit. I'm now researching upgrading my RAM, but yeah. I finally got 1 city to 90K & unlocked monuments, but I have to save so often, I put it on Autosave because the crashing is really bad. lol

Hey biffa, maybe you can check the highway solution as they fixed it in Holland almere at the A6/A1/A9 all to fix the traffic problems to amsterdam, and back.
They created an 2 lane fast connection without exits accompanied with an 2 lane highway with all the exits, half of the city 4 lanes come together and split up again after an few miles. To the bridge at Muiden. Keeps the traffic sepparated.

As well as the CZcams video:

There are some hella cool interchanges you should experiment with - It is quite extensive and some rare ones in there I have never seen.
It would be an interesting video to see you try some advanced ones in a city! Some of my favorites are the Diverging Windmill, Continuous-Flow Intersection, Contraflow Left, and Turbo-Roundabout ^_^ I know you love your roundabouts....

I'd be interested in seeing how prototypical roundabout configuration (at least how it's supposed to be done according to the British Highway Code) affects traffic. For Exit 1 you use the lane furthest to from the median (lane 1), for Exit 2 you use Lane 2 and for Exit 3 and onward you use Lane 3, and as you pass an exit everyone moves away from the centre by one lane, so Lane 1 leaves, Lane 2 changes to lane 1 as its exit is next, Lane 3 becomes lane 2 etc.
Also, those offices that were demolished for the bridge ramp:
"What do you think of our new Bridge?"
"Uhm, well it's great and all that, but unfortunately my place of work was demolished to make way for it so I don't really have any use for it any more"
