"Mark Lawson talks to character actress and voice artist Miriam Margolyes, who has recently channelled her lifelong devotion to Dickens into a one-woman show. She speaks to Mark about her passion for acting, her lively schooldays and her inexorable self-confidence. Margolyes has graced the stage, television and silver screen for 50 years. Her award-winning performances in Little Dorrit and The Age of Innocence gave her international recognition, and more recently she appeared as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films."
You feel she could be your best friend in an instant. A constant delight, I watch her interviews with Graham Norton over and over again. One never gets bored! What a gift...thank you Miriam...

Yes Miriam and William was so so good and they walked up during the show I watched several times it's easy to find on CZcams. I googled her often to see what she's up to great human being
@@skippyoz3366 That interview was brilliant. I think Will.i.am is far smarter than he comes across in passing and, although he is prone to saying some quite pretentious things, I don't think he takes himself too seriously, at least not all the time - much like Miriam.
An excellent actress, with Razor sharp intellect who speaks her mind and is a delight to listen to. All her conversations are truly enjoyable.

A very precious lady. So intelligent, interesting, kind, loyal to her many many friends. She is painfully honest, she depreciates herself. I think she is beautiful, it beams from her. Miriam Margolyes, as always, is wonderful; absolutely truthful, thoughtful, and matter-of-fact. I think she is one of the brightest truth-tellers in the English theatre. There is no one else in theatre that is as interesting, funny, and honest as Miriam. She is absolutely the most engaging person and probably the best character actress working anywhere in the world. God bless her indeed!

The REAL thing! Enormous charm, intelligence and talent. MM is a joy to watch and listen to....and so well spoken. NOT a "like, awesome, journey, you know, right", or other code words for those lacking a personal vocabulary which is so commonly afflicting all classes in the USA....not to mention the ever present errors in personal pronouns, ie: I and me. American standards of "acceptable English" are in the gutter, too often. Bravo Miriam M. and other Brits who maintain a level spoken communication of which to be proud .

Miriam it is not up to you to judge your beauty. It is rather up to the viewers. You are in my eyes so charming & beautiful. Saying I am not beautiful comes from your humble attitude.
My 2nd point is also seen as a generalisation when you say no one loves Jews. I do. When I was little I cried a lot when I saw my 2 young Jewish friends: my dearest neighbours were immigrating to Israel. There is a great difference between Jewish people & the State of Israel, the government & those who mistreat the Palestinians. I admire your mind, judgement, capacity to acknowledge & descern between wrong & right. Who- ever is acusing you of betrayal among the Jewish community are misunderstand you & shortsighted to look at events with a critical analysis. Our wholesomeness starts when we are able to criticise ourselves before cutting the throats of others; acknowledging that we are not perfect & we need to improve ourselves first to develop a better world. I can see in you a huge potential & capability to introduce justice, better thinking & develop our wisdom. Yes, no matter what we do, some will criticise us unfortunately & consequently we are not indifferent. I would also say that religion does not divide people. Human actions, oppression of others, hatered, our injustice, greed, our superiority, lies, hunger to possess what others have, makes this world so ugly & divide us greatly. When I look at videos of dogs & cats accepting one another, living together harmoniously, loving one another in spite of different species in CZcams, I praise God & wonder about our stupidity & misery...
I love your voice because you speak so clearly for others to understand you. In doing so, people respect you & want to listen to you. Of course you didn't kill Christ! How absurd! How unkind!...People are ignorant, inadequate & full of lies. I am a deep believer in my High Almighty, the One who perfected our creation & gave us everything gratuitly. I ask Him to give you health, to look after you & to forgive our shortcomings & welcome us as we are. Yes you are Miriam for me. I do not identify you by your religion or non-religion or orientation or profession or any this & that. If we do we will limit this great Míriam & put her in a box of our perception. Thank you Mr. Lawson for this serious interview because it's the first time I've really gotten a feeling for who she is as a human being. I like and respect what she said about Palestine and the situation there. I briefly participated with a group in San Francisco of Jewish people who were trying to get a change of heart of the Israelis toward the Palestinians but to no avail and then I went with another group that was half Jewish and half Gentile-- which is what I am-- to Washington to Lobby Congress to try to have them put their efforts toward having a change of heart of the Israelis toward the Palestinians but that also was to no avail, athough they thanked us for coming..
I was with a Jewish friend in Santa Barbara and we went to the weekly Jewish get together where you would have lunch and chat and it was open to everyone--gentile or Jew-- & she spoke her mind regarding Palestine & the inhumane treatment of the Palestinians and she was asked to leave and so we left. I have also been there and I met Israelis & Palestinians and I will say it was the Palestinians that invited me into their home and fed me and introduced me to the multi-generational family and it was not the Israelis who offered me that type of hospitality. ACTUALLY they offered me NO hospitality and of course that could be because that is NOT their land historically as for 2,000 years the Greeks called it Palestine and the brief presence there of Jews does not make it their land in any way shape or form.
Nor is it the British right to give another people's land to another people.
I was surprised at what Miriam said but in retrospect I am not because she is a very clear thinking person with deep feelings. YOU have to possess both in order to respond as she did. To respond as the Israelis do and as many American Jews do you need to ONLY be in possession of one thing --either a mind or heart --but not both. When used in isolation, a mind alone or a ❤ alone-- the human being is incomplete.
I realize this interview was done some time ago but I surely hope that she got to act and some of the plays she mentioned,as well as Shakespeare, because I think she would be marvelous. SHE is a jewel that has NOT truly been carefully curated by a master gemologist and hence her talents have never been tapped to the degree that they should be in order to show her brilliance.
She is a absolute gem .. been feeling really down lately diagnosed has breast cancer .. Coe across her on here and she has made me laugh so much .. l want to go to a dinner party with her l bet it’s a scream!!

I'm so proud and chuffed to be regarded by Miriam as a "real pal". Best friends and near neighbours as well. She offered to perform in my idea proposal for a concert of mine where I would perform Sussmeyer's clarinet Concerto followed by his teacher's Concerto and the story of how it came about and we'd do it in costume. It remains an unrealised project due to penury on my part. Any money-bags out there want to make it happen?
