I'll never forget the first time I saw this boss. My friend was playing and I made the mistake of cheering when she got him on the first phase. Second phase is terrifying as hell!
The boss designs are amazing. Is the ape throwing his shit at him? I love when he keeps trying to put his head back on. I am usually not into the souls games but I love the ninja, samauri, Japan theme of this game and bought it. Can't wait to play it.
I know it's been 1 year but still have to thankyou for uploaded this video, I was in a fight with this ape & got rekt by his 2nd phase so hard, after several tries I literally stopping the game right after killed his first phase to watch & learn the move & thnks to that I was able to beat him real quick... The bosses order actually is a tutorial for you to play this game by its way & this ape taught me that in the fight with him I need to combine tactics to beat him, 1st phase you have to move alots & use hit & run then his 2nd phase turned out easier than I thought when all you need is timing to defense & deflect, similar to the fight with genichiro but much easier
Use the spear prosthetic after deflecting it’s giant delayed attack, it’ll pull the centipede out temporarily and deal a bunch of damage. You’ll have to use the tool button again after using it to pull the spear back
In the first stage, I use oil and then fire on it. You can then free hit him for 4-5 times and finish him off quickly and easily. Those who struggle fighting him in the second stage, I strongly recommend getting a mortal blade as it deals a lot more damage and makes this fight much easier.
I’m new to this genre of games as none have interested me until seeing clips from this game. This fight made me decide I’m going to buy this game. Thank you for the upload. Chilling fight and I did *NOT* expect that!
To any one that's struggling: Oil and fire works wonders on this boss during the first phase. The boss literally tries to pat out the fire, leaving it wide open to be hit like 5 times.
The key to beating his second phase is to deflect the final swing of his 4-5 hit combo. Look for the move where he raises the sword high in the air and crashes it down. If you can properly deflect that attack, it will stagger him without fail. When he's in the stunned position, use the loaded spear R2+R2 thrust and drag attack on his neck hole, and you'll pull out the giant centipede in its body and do an insane amount of posture damage. Do that 2-3 times and he's done!
Been stuck on this boss for weeks...after watching this video...iam on second stage now. You just gotta go after it. No jumping around getting one or two hits here and there. Thanks for this video. Never played a game like this before. But what Iam starting to learn is...GO AT EVERYTHING WITH FULL FORCE! Thanks again.
I can't believe this bossfight took me like 7 hours to beat him, but the Owl only took me like 5 tries In fact, I've played every Souls game and I've NEVER had such a struggle like this 💀
@@user-zy7jx2rn1j For me, it's the opposite. I can deal with the first phase just fine. The Guardian Ape's second phase has destroyed me more than Isshin's second phase.

The second half of this fight is actually way easier than the first if you just deflect all his attacks. It does major posture damage and can stun him for a while if you deflect his heavy hitting attacks giving you a good opening for damage.
This fight is a combination of the Bloodletting Beast and Dancer of the Boreal Valley. The design of the Ape also matches the BLB. Look at the slash in its face and how the parasite comes out of its neck!
I remember beating him on the first try with zero estus remaining.. I even called the fight "easy".. then he picked up his head and reminded me that I'm playing a Miyazaki game.
(Just beat it) I rarely parried that attack since my souls instincts told me to run behind him to his feet to hit him and get it worked, just really hate his grapple attack in his first phase(the one where he belly flops) that hitbox is bs
Just keep jumping back when he hits his second phase. Do the same thing here to get a couple of attacks in when he dives towards you but there’s no need to get in close to him at all in this fight as it suggests in this video. It’ll take slightly longer but it’s the safest guarantee you have to beating him because if you’re jumping back constantly when he’s attacking, then he simply can’t touch you. Also, jump back 3 times every time you hit him after he dives towards you, just in case he unleashes his roar attack immediately afterwards.
god the way he moves in the second phase is just so terrifying to me?? like the sword is almost controlling his movements, and the way his body twists and sways so unnaturally... it causes me such anxiety (which is probably the reason i'm having a hard time beating him)
i finally beat him today. he is actually not that hard if u know how to avoid his unblockable attack. his terror scream is the most annoying move because if u stuck in the corner and the camera is fuked up then it's game over. luckily i used a item before hand so it didn't do much to me.
The first phase of this fight isn't too bad, but I had no idea what to do for the longest time in the 2nd phase. But,when you do know what to do in the second phase, the fight is pretty easy. Especially when you use the spear prosthetic.

@@NK-ik4ci Either that...or someone else tried to kill the ape (probably a giant) and rather than killing it, was in for a rude surprise when the ape kept on fighting. As usual, a lot of scary conclusions you can draw.
that's actually quite the Insight; pun partially intended
@@Wolfboss7 idk, there's a copy of him also without a head and with the same sword, so maybe that's just how they roll
A “bug parasite” inside a beast... this IS a reference to Bloodborne. These are the Vermin the League were hunting, and probably the reason why Yamamura joined.
Yes. Bloodborne 2 confirmed.
Nope. Not even close
I was gonna say the same thing with the bloodletting beast with a worm in its head
And notice how bloodletting beast and guardian ape both have gashes on their head
Game out since this day and the demented fanboys who want to see connections no matter what already coming up with their stupid assumptions 😂 Dark Souls is not connected to Bloodborne and Bloodborne is not connected to Sekiro. End of the story.
I'll never forget the first time I saw this boss. My friend was playing and I made the mistake of cheering when she got him on the first phase. Second phase is terrifying as hell!
The music in this fight is insanely good, how all the strings start distorting when his head is off
I was like "oh he's dead already?"
Edit: thanks for all the likes guys really appreciate it
Me too
Shadow die twice 😅
Nani
yeah. after 20 tries with 0 estus :'(
Same lol I was like "why did this feel too easy?" And then get grabbed his head I was like "Oh"
You’ll have to use the tool button again after using it to pull the spear back
I dont have enough spirit emblems for fireworks. Umbrella and spear

Easily already one of the best and most memorable Soulsborne bosses ever
1:32 it was at this moment my soul left my body
In the first stage, I use oil and then fire on it. You can then free hit him for 4-5 times and finish him off quickly and easily. Those who struggle fighting him in the second stage, I strongly recommend getting a mortal blade as it deals a lot more damage and makes this fight much easier.
I go "WOAH" everytime I see a Sekiro gameplay video... Can't wait to play
Omg this game looks like a oil painting.
Like an ancient painting, yeah, its beautiful
An oil panting hmm? Maybe one painted with with a dark soul by the painting woman in Ariandel?
I’ve used the same controller for Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 (and all the DLC’s). I’m only at the first mini-boss... no way it survives this game.
This thing is a fusion of Dancer of the Boreal Valey and that giant shark from Bloodborne.
The beheading is probably the most badass execution I've seen in any game. Amazing boss all around
This boss reminds of a bloodborne boss in his second phase...bloodletting beast
First phase is similar to Bloodstarved beast
He even has Bloodborne-esque fur on him
The way the boss moves is like the giant fishmen in the Fishing Hamlet.
DustyO'Rusty no
Umukzus Gelos he has "BloodBorne-esque" hair? Probably the most retarded comment I've read today. Y'all are trying too hard to relate this game to BB.
I’m new to this genre of games as none have interested me until seeing clips from this game. This fight made me decide I’m going to buy this game. Thank you for the upload. Chilling fight and I did *NOT* expect that!
Nobody’s Shadow Haha will do, that looks like a big IF. I’ll be at this one for a while I’m sure.
I'm in the exact same boat as you
To any one that's struggling: Oil and fire works wonders on this boss during the first phase.
The boss literally tries to pat out the fire, leaving it wide open to be hit like 5 times.
I don’t know if this happens to you guys but, after a long break of this game when you come back, it looks so beautiful.
This boss lost his way from Dark Souls 4 and came here xD
and the demon of hatred
Been stuck on this boss for weeks...after watching this video...iam on second stage now. You just gotta go after it. No jumping around getting one or two hits here and there. Thanks for this video. Never played a game like this before. But what Iam starting to learn is...GO AT EVERYTHING WITH FULL FORCE! Thanks again.
The second phase background music is perfect. Makes the fight even more scarier.
I can't believe this bossfight took me like 7 hours to beat him, but the Owl only took me like 5 tries
In fact, I've played every Souls game and I've NEVER had such a struggle like this 💀
Bruh, Isshin was less difficult for me than this ape 💀💀
It's the literal opposite for me😂
0:48 fart of the century
My favorite boss fight and music. I struggled to beat him for so long but after I figured out his moves it's the most fun battle.
Me: I Finally beat this boss
Miyazaki: You mean you wanna fight two apes at the same time?
Me: *PikAchU faCe*
I love how at 0:07, the music signals like "I know you're there boy:
Me in genichiro fight; Finally, I got good at deflecting and bringing down his posture
*Guardian ape enters
Me: WhAt Do I dEfLEcT aGaIn
I like the second phase but definitely not the first it's giving me chained ogre flashbacks
@@user-zy7jx2rn1j
For me, it's the opposite.
I can deal with the first phase just fine. The Guardian Ape's second phase has destroyed me more than Isshin's second phase.
@@utisti4976 I'm on ng+7 with demon Bell and no kuros charm and I've now finally gotten good at his first phase. One boss that I still struggle with and I'm happy that it's optional is the demon of hatred. In my opinion he's 10x harder than ishinn.
@@user-zy7jx2rn1j Ones I realized that I can grab hock the demon of hatred after some attacks he became easy
ΛutistiЄ yeah cause the first phase is predictable and we are more familiar with it! I had youtube and learn about the second phase more to kill it haha
Thank you for this video! I was stuck on the ape for a week. Beat him first try after watching this.
Thanks, lots. The run-and-poke method wasn’t working for me. Seeing you stay on his ass showed me what I needed to do👍
Seems like a bastard son of Blangonga and Congalala from Monster Hunter series tho lol
TheTatsunokami combine that with the bloodletting beast from Bloodborne and you got yourself this boss. Always good to see a fellow veteran hunter
@@gigachad9016 Even thought I've never played Bloodborne, But MH series still haunts me when his moveset really reminded me of Congalala and Blangonga a bit when he farted and throw his shit at the Wolf. Ah! Good ol' days 😁😁😁
TheTatsunokami I got PTSD from Freedom Unite. Solo Grank was a nightmare
its good to see fellow veteran hunters here
@@gigachad9016 That atomic fart was always a bitch. Its always nice to see veteran hunters that still have these fights embedded into their memories. It just comes to show how much we have learned from our stuggles and continue to strive to be better.
I really cant wait to play this game
Favorite fight in the entire game. After the first time you fight him he's so fun
When the orchestra starts as he recognize you're there, it's scary as hell. That detail is very dope though!
I love that when the ape has lost it's head , and screams , blood just sprays out of his neck.
That's some serious creativity
The second half of this fight is actually way easier than the first if you just deflect all his attacks. It does major posture damage and can stun him for a while if you deflect his heavy hitting attacks giving you a good opening for damage.
1:24 me: huh that looks easy
Looks at time left
Also me: aw shit here we go again
This fight is a combination of the Bloodletting Beast and Dancer of the Boreal Valley.
The design of the Ape also matches the BLB. Look at the slash in its face and how the parasite comes out of its neck!
I remember beating him on the first try with zero estus remaining.. I even called the fight "easy".. then he picked up his head and reminded me that I'm playing a Miyazaki game.
This took me 2 years to kill. 2 whole years
Wait really?
And it took me three hours just to kill him 😂
@@SAFIS448 yeah, I kept on and off about this game and I finally felt joy in taking his life
@@GuoJia740 fck took me 4 to 5 hours
2:44, that attack is quite easy to parry and if you do parry it, you can get like 5 hits on it
(Just beat it) I rarely parried that attack since my souls instincts told me to run behind him to his feet to hit him and get it worked, just really hate his grapple attack in his first phase(the one where he belly flops) that hitbox is bs
All I can think of is Robot Chicken “ITS ALIVE” when that thing stood back up with NO head
Player: finally I just cut off his head I beat it
Guardian ape:I am about to end this man's whole career
god the way he moves in the second phase is just so terrifying to me?? like the sword is almost controlling his movements, and the way his body twists and sways so unnaturally... it causes me such anxiety (which is probably the reason i'm having a hard time beating him)
When you see the centipide inside of him and you realized why he moved like that was so cool for me.
The music when you first approach and he turns around....
Goosebumps.
“Now the trick to this game is I can come back to life” - Guardian Ape
It ain't a souls game if the boss dies that easy... phase 2 baby
i finally beat him today. he is actually not that hard if u know how to avoid his unblockable attack. his terror scream is the most annoying move because if u stuck in the corner and the camera is fuked up then it's game over. luckily i used a item before hand so it didn't do much to me.
Except Sekiro took it further and added a future double ape encounter too.
Me: side dodging to avoid his attacks, accidentally stepping behind him
Ape: NOPE *Lets out a lvl 100 fart*
Me: AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
* YOU DIED *
Good one bro 👏 you got me that one 😂
Damn. I just wasn’t being aggressive enough in phase one. Thank you!
The first phase of this fight isn't too bad, but I had no idea what to do for the longest time in the 2nd phase. But,when you do know what to do in the second phase, the fight is pretty easy. Especially when you use the spear prosthetic.
