  • This horse has a bad case of Scratches. It’s a fungus that has a sensitivity to light and affects white skin on horses. It’s been bad this year with all the moisture. I had a new tub of Sulfur Salve that I make, in my truck, so I thought I’d show it to you. I will do a video on how to make it as soon as I can.

GREAT tip on wound treatment! That is also the BEST ointment for skin cuts, hot spots or raw spots on dogs. Before flea prevention was created dogs in the south always had fleas and they would scratch and lose hair in places they scratched a lot. My mother met a woman in a store 50 years ago who told her to mix sulphur with used motor oil and put it on the raw spots on our dog. My mom got a bottle sulphur from the store, mixed it with baby oil (mineral oil) and the skin was not red and the hair was growing back. I seem to remember it only being a few days before the skin had started improving. It was inexpensive and amazing. You can also mix the sulphur with Vaseline.

Great to see this old remedy being used. We used to make up a salve just like this in Australia, 50 years ago. We mixed the sulphur with lard. It worked wonders, & so fast! You could use it on so many different wounds & conditions 👌
    Thanks for the vid.

Haven't heard of this remedy. Scratches, or grease heel have plagued horses and horsemen for centuries. Good to hear that the sulfur cream works. Scratches are very painful, I've heard. Often, the heavily feathered breeds suffer from this.

Lynne, it’s a bad problem. Feathered legs do get it worse.

Good idea to mix it with fat - hope the horse gets better soon.
