People talk about the music for Command and Conquer and Red Alert a lot and though the soundtracks for those games were great can we just take a moment to appreciate the music and sound FX for this game? So great.
This game is amazing, it is a crime to not to give it a remake!
I like how the Sardaukar fires away as he rides Dune's carousel, heheh.
Fucking baller are the Sardaukar in this game, especially the minigunners. By far, the best infantry to mass, both for destructive efficiency as well as for viewing satisfaction. Love how they fire up at the sky when you win a map, they don't just raise their weapons like the other infantry units. Makes for a rewarding show at the end of the battle when you got a horde of them onscreen!
Harkonnen infantry also fire their guns.
it's a shame that House Ordos wasn't in the books but only in the games, they're a really interesting House.
They're more interesting in D2k where their mentat is a forbidden Ixian technology - most likely one of them banned thinking machines, or a cyborg.

@@Clarensee Random environment effects, can be turned off in multiplayer I think. But in the main campaign they sort of just plow through your bases from time to time.
The hawk strike has got to be one of the most effective non-lethal weapons in RTS history ever!
I always preferred to use Hawk Strike when under attack - it would buy useful time to reestablish defence and get the enemy away from my base at least temporarily

now if only the source code for this...and supcom 1 could become shareware......I pay dearly for a dune rts i the deliciously themed , tuned enviroment of Emperor battle for dune style...with the scale scope and ruthless 'evrything is a ingame entity' mechanics..that..be one fuck of a RTS.
@@Amoth_oth_ras_shash , This game is quite moddable, if you know how to do it. I made a balance mod years ago, changing building times, some armor types, damages, experience rates, ranges, etc.
Create a folder MODEL inside folder DATA. There you'll put your edited "rules.txt". You probably will need an original one to edit. Take it from here.

that been my major problem since last i played it ,got a honest bought when it was new copy but....sighs...either the install exe dont work or if geeting it installed on win7 it wont boot properly just...tell it to boot ,it tryess and then just stops I know its a shared problem for cearten games something about windows but its just a pinch outside my area of experience to work around.
@@Amoth_oth_ras_shash It should work fine with win7. I do have win7 and mine runs perfectly. And you probably won't have an hard time finding one "around". ;)

I don't know if it's a bug or something, but whenever i used hawkstrike, instead of sending them running off map, it sent all the enemies affected straight at my base!

I love this game. My fave House is the Ordos, with their super quick tanks that can outmaneuver Minotauri and the Kobra with its long-ranged howitzer.
Man the music for House Harkonnon kicks some real ass!

This is an awesome sequel to Dune 2000. It could use a remake, though. Dune 2000 was a great remake of Dune II

this was a mad remake of dune 200 and dune 2. the graphics engine lives on in the form of generals, c&c3, ra3 and now the upcoming c&c4

Considering the blast yield is smaller than the previous Death Hand(s) used in "Dune2" and "Dune2000" the Harkonnen Superweapon in "Emperor:BattleForDune" is equipped only with conventional High-explosive yields mixed with chemicals rather than actual "Atomics".

You left out the Ixian super gun from one state, and also the Guild cannon in the final mission

@sarix19 .... make sure that only option one is selected (The program worked in earlier versions of windows...) -> Next -> try with Wind 98/Windows ME option -> Next -> close the window and try to start the game

Yeah, too bad, the Dune universe is great. Emperor didn't have very much in common with either the books or the movie, but it got an great atmosphere, and the sandworms where huge.
I'd love to see a sequel, perhaps containing more interplanetary combat (like, keeping pretty non-linear campaign mode and expanding it over an entire solar system), though I'm not sure how the economics would work since it is clear that melange is only available on Arrakis.

@sarix19 after you install the game, right click on the dune exe on your desktop or in the game folder and select: troubleshoot compability -> Use recommended settings -> click on Start the Program then click Next (it will try to apply win XP compability) -> Yes, save these settings for this program close that and try to start the game. If it doesn't work try again but this time don't select "Yes, save these..." select "No, try again using different settings "

I was actually thinking about picking this up again soon. I just want to know, will it run on Vista 32 bit? If not, forget it. But if so, I will get it and play it online with you.

i have both this.. and dune 2000 still.. those discs.. are more looked after then any other game i own, once i finish my play through of Abe's exodus on my website.. i will be doing a play through off this.. and i never finished the game.. i was always playing sandbox lol
does this game have team play?also, there is a command so the unit goes where I rodered but attacking any units on the way?

@sarix19 I'm asking for your reply, because I don't remember which windows version worked for me, this info will help me for future installations of this game. I've installed it 2 weeks ago and it works perfect right now.
it works on my win7 64 bit ultimate, not before I troubleshooted the compability issues first.

Units struck by the "Hawk Strike" that are near the edge of the screen can literally "fall off the edge" of the screen and disappear with the "Unit Loss" clip being played. I wonder if this is a bug, I don't think it was the original intention for the designers to design the Superweapon of the Atreides to kill units by stealth.
They get scared shitless by a giant bird hologram that they be like "Nnnnope".

@1oglop1 i didnt even played generals :D ra2 was awesome, yes.... but it was released way too early (thx to ea)... it may be so much better... did u see artic shots of westwood plans? that was awesome! and they made only 1\3 of the plan. but since i loved tiberium saga a lot... i really liked c&c3 too.

i think this was the first modern rts - ea took so much from emperor - 3 factions, subgroups. but i got to say - no cnc-rts reached emperor battle for dune in puncto using terrain -> infantry cover/trenches etc.

Imo the hawk strike was the least useful superweapon. Yes, it can offer you a few seconds to defend yourself but if the enemies can't reach a specific point at the map border they won't leave the map and come back.
Chaos lightning was more useful with its friendly fire function. Clearly an upgraded hawk strike for me.
Ofc the nuke is just insane with its blast radius and over time damage area around the impact point.
Chaos Lightning also is good against camping players/AI as the lightning affects turrets. It's good to use that on a clump of defenses before going in

@sarix19 if the game runs OK, restart so Windows can save the settings for sure and to switch to normal skin, and then please tell me if it worked for you, cause that's how it worked for me
I wish they made Sardukar a playable race...maybe after you played as all 3 as a bonus. Wouldve been awesome to see a version where they're creation actually won.

Hawk Strike was gay, they should gave Aterdies some Sonic cannon or something
Death hand was EPIC (best weapon) but would be kool if it were multiple missiles and had a bigger radius and alittle more damage
