I could write an essay (and I did) but the TLDR of it is it was a pretty serious and dark arc to include in a kid's show, and I don't think it was handed well.

Ben was too uncompromising, he felt like a different character. Not the leader he grew to be or the hero who brings out the best in people from the very start. Even worse when he gave this little to no consideration for his supposed Best Friend.
I would have liked it more if he didn't have this conviction from the jump of the arc and didn't shut Gwen down as hard.
