      Look like a diaper. They are wearing shorts and light clothing because while it is indoors, the AC cannot be turned on, because it disrupts the air too much.

    Since I was a kid I was fascinated by the pictures I would see on these in the model magazines, though never saw one in person. Years of flying UC, graduating to RC. My only FF experience, other than Guillows which are better as static scale, was a couple of Peanuts from Peck.

    I enjoyed this, and was bored, back and forth. I think I would like doing this, but then again. Unusual experience and it would take a lot of patience to participate. I will check into it.

    Unbelievable: Dieter Siebenmann introduced me to the secrets of F1D 43 years after this event. - Thank you Dieter - He won the Swiss championship last year (2022)....

    I wonder if static electricity plays a part in collision. It seems strange that the planes stick together. Something to think about

    What's the film called they use for the skin of the plane?

    • @faj7342
      @faj7342 Před 4 měsíci

      It is called microfilm. It is made of mixture of varnish and thinners and then poured on water. It is not used anymore. Today modellers use plastic films.

    • @ConcreteBombDeep
      @ConcreteBombDeep Před 4 měsíci

      @@faj7342 That's fascinating, I'll have to look into it. I assume the stuff they use today is way better? What's the new stuff called?

    • @faj7342
      @faj7342 Před 4 měsíci

      @@ConcreteBombDeep Well, the microfilm is lighter and can be made in different thicknesses. When you watch carefully there is one moment when you can see a plane with different colors of the film. The wing is blueish (medium thickness), tail is gold (quite thin). The thinnest is silver but it is almost impossible to lift from water. But the microfilm very fragile and planes usually did not survive for more than a year.
      Now the weight limit is 1.5 gram so it is ok to use plastic and planes are much more durable. Btw the plastic film is called OS film.
      Joshua Finn has very nice tutorials of making F1D planes.

    • @FreeFlightDigest
      @FreeFlightDigest  Před 2 lety +7

      Models in this class flew for 45-50 minutes.. if they went one at a time it would take 2 days just for each competitor to get through a single flight.. FAI Competition each flier gets SIX flight. The occasional midair will happen, but you'd be surprised how infrequently!
