  • Some Yorkshire Surprise Maximus on the 1973 Taylor twelve at Chester. Not so much to look at but the bells sound great outside the tower. Inside they are a bit indistinct, but better than they were the first time I rang here.

Now there is an extra treble, I tried it, I could literally ring it with one hand

A rather peculiar tower, I must say, though similar to Pembridge!

I don't know if true but I had heard that it was intended to be a loose modern interpretation of Pembridge!

Why aren’t the bells hung in the Cathedral Tower?

I think that the cathedral tower just wasn't strong enough to hold the ringing bells. There is still one bell up there and I think it's no.8 of the old ring of ten.

Aren't they good? Unfortunately things seemed to go off for them after these.
