a little fun fact. if you beat 3 race mode missions and unlock low gravity, you can jump out of certain worlds, and if you fall long enough, the game dumps you in a dungeon filled with chickens. you cant pause the game and you're stuck. the only way out is to reset the game!
Wow, I know you can unlock cheats. I was dumb enough to blow the few Race Mode points I could get on some "shadow" mode or something. All it did was make some wire frame grid where shows should be. Guess to show off the real time lighting
There are a few other cheats I want to screw around with, but low gravity certainly gave me my money's worth
In the Gamecube version, jump out of certain worlds you are trapped inside a Gamecube instead.
I need to see this XD if you dont have or cant find a video on it, I will buy the gamecube version and do it myself
***** If you do play it for yourself, you have to beat Merlin to unlock the cheat. Worlds that you can do this in is the one where you're inside the castle freeing prisoners and the one with Humpty Dumpty.

Coming back to this video after the new lost footage of Shrek 1996 came out, it's clear to see where some of the more darker/weirder designs in the game came from.

DICE have always been masters of rendering techniques. I believe this game also had a very early implementation of deferred lighting which was pretty much unheard of in 2001 and almost a decade later it was barely breaking into modern games. I wouldn’t be surprised if pieces of this game’s renderer ended up being repurposed a few years later for the first version of Frostbite.

I'll admit, I had to look up what deferred lighting was, and I don't fully understand it, but I'm not really all that surprised.
Before EA got DiCE under their wing, they seem to have done quite a lot of different projects, including my very first Xbox game, Midtown Madness 3. Wait for it, there's a connection to mentioning MM3:
I also wouldn't be surprised if they carried some things over to Frostbite, seeing as Angel Studios, now known as Rockstar San Diego, carried bits of their code from Midtown-friggin-Madness 1 over to the RAGE engine, which they pretty much built.

Ah, yes. I remember the sub-plot in "Shrek" where Shrek broke into Impel Down to free his brother, Donkey, and released a bunch of violent prisoners in the process. It's not hard to see why "Shrek" is considered one of the greatest anime of all time.

I played this game when I was young, my memories of it felt so surreal. All I could remember was Shrek, his speed, the strange physics and one of the levels being like inside a box, geometry wise. Glad to see what was up with it.

I had the special edition DVD of Shrek, growing up. I was always immensely confused by the hints because even as someone who wasn't really familiar with video games as a kid these "hints" seemed immensely unhelpful.

i'm really sorry for asking but you requested a black and white video now a few years back and i sent you one and i was really looking forward to that video, i think there was a random GameCube game inside it a screwdriver and some batteries, did you even receive it?
It doesn't look like a bad game, in fact, it looks fairly decent even for a licensed game. it just doesn't feel like something Shrek would be in, and feels more like Shrek was put in at the last minute to sell copies. It looks more like a Spyro game or something similar to that rather than anything Shrek related.
Also, why does this even have a Teen rating, it looks pretty E-rated to me, though this was before 12 year olds playing Call of Duty was a thing.

The thing about DICE being involved in this game is actually kinda interesting. Before DICE bought the original developer out in 2001 (the same year that Shrek came out on Xbox), they were a simple licensed shovelware developer in Canada called Sandbox Studios. Shrek was supposed to be their big break for this company as it was their first big budget title for a then-major publisher TDK featuring a potentially hot license after years of portable licensed games and budget PS1 titles. And then DICE rebranded them as DICE Canada when they were bought out by the company with the intention of expanding their global development reach, meaning that all of their licensed shovelware from Shrek onwards dubiously had the DICE name, at least until they could finish all of their existing contracts for Barbie games and the Gamecube Shrek port. From then on, they ended up acting as a support studio for the main Sweden branch until EA bought out DICE in 2006, where they shut down DICE Canada due to redundancy as EA already had several Canadian studios.
And that's how Shrek ended up being "developed" by DICE.

I feel the only reason this Shrek game had a T rating was because the E10+ rating wasn't an option until a few years later.
(Frankly there are a lot of T-rated games from the early PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era that this could be said about. Not all of them obviously, but still)
I mean, the violence doesn't seem to be any worse than the first Jak and Daxter, and the edgy humor from the movie isn't really in here apart from the prominent burps and farts.

This was a pretty great video to be honest! I also really love the new animation bits of Pan in the Taxi and with the different angles/perspectives now, it's very fresh and cool looking! (especially with the night and space aesthetic, chill coloring and shots of the monitor screen in the taxi)
