Prybars and crowbars are becoming very popular out on the west coast these days. There must be quite a few nice guys out there using them to help stranded motorists and to help people get into their homes and whatnot. It warms the heart to hear stories of these heroes using tools like these to help those in need during this holiday season 🎁🎄🎅🏻
Scoutcrafter, Thank you for sharing the linseed oil and shellac secrets. That was very informing. That B29 generator was cool, yeah I think that would knock someone on their duff. The work on the Proto was simply off the charts.... Then to top it off we have old glory waving in the wind. Can't get much better than this video.. Again, thanks
Old Glory, let freedom fly! Love the hammer handle finish. The pry bar looked brand new. The generator reminded me when we were racing. We used a Joe Hunt magneto that was it’s own power source. We always had someone holding the spark plug wires to clean when we were putting the engine back together. When they got to the end we would give it a little spin. Just enough to get a good laugh. Thank you
Another great video!! That bar is beautiful!! I have the flag that was presented to me when my dad passed. I have it in a place of honor. I love that flag and all that it represents.
John, I don't know you personally but can tell you are a special guy. Thanks for great video. Hope to have a chance to meet you someday....you changed the way I look on tools and How I handle them.
John you were taught to love and respect tools by your hero’s. You are very quality conscious by all your work. As I browse utube there’s a lot of people that restore tools. You have set the bar so high that only a few can come close to your restorations. I personally have a lot of respect for you and your work. Once I get my shop in order I will come back to my restorations. I look forward to Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s to see to see what you are working on. I just built a wishing well that I have wanted since I was a youngster. My 12 year old granddaughter painted it. I am proud of it. All dungage and used lumber. Thank you for your channel.
One of my favorite day-dreams is to think of my next shop, large, climate controlled with a dirty room ventilated thru out with great lighting and plenty of space. I bet we all have that same dream... Hopefully we will be able to have it before we are too old to use it! =D Thanks!!!!!
I have a 20 something year old can of Butcher’s Bowling Alley wax that I periodically wax an old Philco console radio with. I thought I was the only person who loved that smell. That bar is outstanding!
Your absolutely right. I’d walk right by that awesome multi tool. But not after your hands were on it. Wow spectacular sanding on the top. Looks factory!! Always look forward to mish mosh mondays
Love my proto tools!! Ratchets are smooth. Ya did another outstanding job marine!!! Submit yourself in fir a ten minute break. Ya can take it on your way home as my old platoon sergeant would say. 👍🇺🇸. Stay safe
Great video. I like the wood handle finishing tips. Seems to me that getting the right finish on woodwork can be hit or miss. It's as much art as science. Thanks
Ohh Pat you are so right and it can be just as hard getting it right on metal too. So many times I’ve just needed to add the finish to a project only to have it come out badly. There’s a lot of work and frustration removing the finish, cleaning up the item again and reapplying. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Brother... with your personality and charisma you could sit and read War and Peace and I'd still watch you... you working on chisels and punches is simply frosting on the cake
I have a similar generator which comes out of a military field telephone. You've probably seen them in films where they wind the handle to make a call. I guess it rings the bell at the other end, but I'm not sure. Great job on the pry bar.
Oh S.C., I love that generator..That is really cool.. Reminds me of the story about Charlie and the game warden.. The game warden was talking to his buddies and how no one is catching any fish, and about that time Charlie rolls up with a boat load of fish.. And no one can believe what they're seeing.. The game warden says, Charlie how did u catch all those fish? No one else even got as much as a nibble.. Charlie says, Be down here at 8 tomorrow morning and I'll show you.. The game warden met him the next morning, they go out to Charlie's favorite spot, drop anchor, and the game warden is watching Charlie's every move. Charlie reaches under the seat and grabs a stick of dynamite, lights it and tosses it into the water... BOOM.. Lots of fish come floating to the surface... Game warden is freaking out and says, Charlie we been friends for a long time but that's against the law.. I'm going to have to take u in for that. Charlie just reaches under his seat and lights another stick of dynamite and hands it to the warden and says, You gonna talk or fish... Another great video S.C. thx for taking us along... .
My Dad had a large version of your Proto Bar. I learned the use of such a bar at a very early age. I wonder who has that bar now......... ;) Yeah you know who's tool box it's in.
That’s a great little hand crank generator. If you find out what it’s from let us know. Need to put a good load on it and see how many amps you can push.
As an old carpenter I would cross hatch the hammer handle with a crosscut saw so I could hold on to it in the cold and wet, but love the look of finished handles . Nices Proto!
There was some Linseed Oil around the house when I was a kid, I took that old can and put it on all the Rakes, Shovels, Hoes, Brooms and such..........I hated that Nasty Dirty Sticky Finish...........I haven't used Linseed Oil since that time.
I really appreciate the respect you give to viewer questions, John. You have so much knowledge but zero arrogance about it. I wish I knew more people like you.
I have the Snapon 1658 - USAD version of that bar. Had it all my life and never really looked at...just used it. Thanks to you, it's now easy to appreciate these pieces of history. You da man!
We share a fascination with pry bars. Today's example we called die bars. The were great for removing die sections from the die shoe. I had to keep track of them because the setup guys liked them too. If they put a bolt in the t slots of the player they could pry against it and shift a huge die around. The silly thing was they had their own, but they would get left on the dies when they put them on the racks. When they couldn't find theirs they knew where mine were. 😠 I do love the Boston Amber Wax. I am on my second can in 20 years. Great for machine tables to block rusting. That generator is cool. You could hook it up to the wheel in your mouse rehab and power the lights in your shop. 😁😎 Thanks for another great video.
I often stop as I stand at my front door and look at my Union Jack 🇬🇧 fluttering in the westerly wind and think to myself “ ain’t she beautiful “ There’s something about red white and blue .
My granddaddy told a tale about when he was pretty young some men at a job told him to 'stick a screwdriver right there', and POW! He looked up as he was on the ground having been knocked back by a generator. The screwdriver didn't make it. It had been cut in half by the current...
Well that last one you did came out great too , I'm not gonna go on the search for one if these this time, I think only you and me appreciate pry bars John !!
Hello John I reckon that pinch bar is actually a Williams, branded Proto. Nevertheless, a nice tool and a good job restoring it. Cheers from Albion Park, NSW, Australia
The power of step up transformers small voltage in massive voltage out. Toy shock machines say in the form of a lighter when the button is pressed the piezo currant can give of thousand of volts due to the transformer windings.
When you asked yourself what you wanted to do with the prybar I immediately thought that it doesn't matter, it will be smooth and shiny when you call it done!
Mr. ScoutCrafter. You should experiment with Watco Danish Oil. It has Shellack in it so it cures like a basic shellack but it also nourishes the wood at the same time which is far more important. You can also get it in different colors or shades so you can avoid the staining step. The notorious "Buckin' Billy Ray" put me on to it for axe and other tool handles. Homemade Blacksmith paste wax is probably my favorite, it gives a nice tacky, yet shiny surface that is one of the oldest forms of wood preservation. Its a mix of bees wax, turpentine, pine tar, and linseed oil. You can also experiment with substituting the bees wax with other waxes to get different sheen levels and textures. It is also an outstanding metal preservative and smells AMAZING with the pine tar but I'm sure you already know all of this :)
Love the bar scout came up great the Dynmo was so cool We had one and we would all hold hands and my pop Would crank it up man what a kick we would get ahh the good old days Great video god bless the flag and god bless you 👍🙏🗽🇺🇸🦅
Yeah that generator hit me right in the got to do something with it part of my brain...gotta make some kind of a wind turbine to turn it and light up some kind of whirligig...anything but a dusty shelf...😭 Be well crafterman...
we need more testing and measurements of that hand cranked generator. How much current amps does it put out? it was fun seeing the voltage climb so easily!
You have great hand eye coordination to do all of that grinding and have it turn out better than the factory machines do it. Great job on the pry bar, the facets and the transition from octagonal to round looks perfect.
Lol....getting electrocuted is worth a good laugh, i say you build it 🤣. Those alignment tools are so handy, spud wrenches are okay, but that size looks perfect. Great stuff. Cheers
I have two of the aligning bars in my tool box with my work ballpeens and rubber mallets. There is no end of things to use them for but espeacilly working on suspension parts. You have tool holes and a steel bushing to line up. That and the hammer turned out really well.
Hey John, You're not the only one that loves these pry bars. I have over a half a dozen of them and wouldn't want to try doing some of the things I do without the use of one. I have a toe foot pry bar that sits above my workbench for when I have to line up bolts on my motorcycles. There isn't another tool that I know of that lines up bolt into their holes onto frames or whatever as good as one of these. Plus you can pry the item over a little if necessary. Love them. Good job cleaning up this one. Later
I have 2 comments. Add some load to your A/C generator, I think that the effort needed to create voltage will increase. The bigger the load the more effort will be required. Also, I loved the pry bar.
The proto 2116 is an alignment tool. supposed to have a pointed tip. but you can make it anyway you want. Stanley/Proto still makes it in the USA. Good job on its renewal!
That is an awesome generator with crazy power, I wonder what the amps are. My two classic style crow bars I painted hi-viz yellow because when I use them there is usually a bunch of junk getting pulled apart ending up in a big mess on the floor.

I really appreciate you showing how you did your hammer handle. Is it just kansas or are other places having trouble finding shellac. I’ve been looking for about 4 months at Menards and now they have pulled the tags and have filled the space with polyurethane. Thank You for sharing
Always enjoy your videos. I have always used linseed oil on my wood handles but I'm curious if you can apply Shellac over the linseed oil. Also, isn't the tapered end of that pry bar used as an alignment tool when bolting heavy metal parts together?
They say the beauty of Shellac is you can put it over anything and under anything! It is very good that way. You are spot on about the use of that bar!
Great episode John! I'm intrigued by the generator. Are there any markings or part numbers? I volunteer at the New England Air Museum. We have a B-29 on display. I'll see if I can identify its purpose on the aircraft.
The generator reminds me of a field telephone or radio which is about 50volts like a laneline, if it's from a plane I would think it would need more for the for the distance.. so my guess radio power

Very good lesson on refinishing the handle. Thank you. Also the transition from the facets to round was beautiful and not easy to do. Thanks
Electrocutin' someone!! Now that's my kinda fun!! Our Buddy Mike would love that lil' Dynamo!!☺
haha
Another great video!! That bar is beautiful!! I have the flag that was presented to me when my dad passed. I have it in a place of honor. I love that flag and all that it represents.

Another outstanding video. It’s remarkable how you bring these Gems back to their Proper finish! Very inspiring! 👍🏻
Best color scheme ever R, W, & B! Never have to worry about those colors running 🤠👍🇺🇸 Enjoyed it!
Excellent bar. Good for assembling and disassembling big machines.

Great job on the handles Scoutcrafter! The pry bar turned out really nice too. That generator is cool! I want one. Take care and God bless America!
I think that's one of your best restorations.....love that 👍!
"I'll be sniffing it for a while..." LOL!
No way I would pass up, that generator. Great item.Kind of a big alternative to the hand buzzer.
Oh S.C., I love that generator..That is really cool..

The blue sky in the background of your great flag looks so nice, we have snow now in the uk 🇬🇧 Nottingham
....lookin' good, keep safe and have a great week..
That’s a great little hand crank generator. If you find out what it’s from let us know. Need to put a good load on it and see how many amps you can push.
Great tips on the hammer handle. I would have thought using steel wool instead of sand paper. Love it 👍👍👩🔧
300 volts gives you a nice zappppppp LOL. A no-no on that pry bar
As an old carpenter I would cross hatch the hammer handle with a crosscut saw so I could hold on to it in the cold and wet, but love the look of finished handles . Nices Proto!
Now I gotta find a Proto 2116! Great job.

Vintage Snap-On is always outstanding! 😃👍
That proto turned out nice. Thanks fir the fun.
That Proto bar has a nice style to it
That AC generator is pretty cool!
We share a fascination with pry bars.

Hi John, great work as always, loved the Proto, like you say if you've used that type of small bar then you know what they're worth, 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧
Proto 2116...I love it!
Great video ScoutCrafter. Thank you loved the instructions on your handle care. That pry bar looks great.
My granddaddy told a tale about when he was pretty young some men at a job told him to 'stick a screwdriver right there', and POW! He looked up as he was on the ground having been knocked back by a generator.
The screwdriver didn't make it. It had been cut in half by the current...
OMG- He was lucky to not get killed!
Hello from South Africa
Well that last one you did came out great too , I'm not gonna go on the search for one if these this time, I think only you and me appreciate pry bars John !!
I love, love, love it! Thanks for the how-to on the wooden handles. That is definitely a cool generator. Jim
Great tutorial on applying shellac!
That Proto looks awesome 👌
I wanna hook that crank generator to my toenails.
You do excellent work John. Thanks for sharing. Love Old Glory! #LGBFJB
God bless America 🇺🇸
Hello John
I reckon that pinch bar is actually a Williams, branded Proto.
Nevertheless, a nice tool and a good job restoring it.
Cheers from Albion Park, NSW, Australia
That crank device is similar to a MEGGER which is used to check the insulation on electrical wires . Very Nice job on the Proto Maestro
I love Meggers - They look so cool! 😃👍
Great stuff John, loved the tips on the shellac and wax.
That generator is amazing on what it puts out! But what makes it super cool is that it came out of a B29 Superfortress! Awesome!!!
Very nice this Proto 2116.
A pry bar with a podger on the end. Good for lining up flanges
Your the restoration master for sure 👍
Great job lots of great information. Thanks 😊 🙏

good stuff, you always point out good details/facts...txs for sharing
very cool Generator I will be looking for one, Thank YOU.
Thanks for the shellac tutorial.
Great video. I can't wait to get back in the shop.
Abe! Make sure it is heated!!!!
I am "shocked" by how much current that generator puts out!
I myself love pry bars & punches. Idk why but I do!
When you asked yourself what you wanted to do with the prybar I immediately thought that it doesn't matter, it will be smooth and shiny when you call it done!

Hi Rob! I have it! Although I never tried it on handles before! Thanks! 😃👍
That AC generator is cool 😎 But it’s probably Very dangerous in the wrong hands, still cool 😎
Amazing stuff and love that generator too that’s a powerful little gadget.
Thought it was great that you shocked yourself 🤣I would’ve done the same thing 👍
This was great! The hammer handle and pry bar look fantastic but the flag was the best. Thanks for sharing this.
Love the bar scout came up great the Dynmo was so cool
We had one and we would all hold hands and my pop
Would crank it up man what a kick we would get ahh the good old days
Great video god bless the flag and god bless you 👍🙏🗽🇺🇸🦅
Yeah that generator hit me right in the got to do something with it part of my brain...gotta make some kind of a wind turbine to turn it and light up some kind of whirligig...anything but a dusty shelf...😭
Be well crafterman...
we need more testing and measurements of that hand cranked generator. How much current amps does it put out? it was fun seeing the voltage climb so easily!
I'm curious what frequency it's running at, I think the old aircraft equipment ran on 400 Hz.
You have great hand eye coordination to do all of that grinding and have it turn out better than the factory machines do it. Great job on the pry bar, the facets and the transition from octagonal to round looks perfect.
Hi John, how about giving us a tour of your toolboxes for Christmas??
Wow that thing cranks blow your socks clean off lol
Lol....getting electrocuted is worth a good laugh, i say you build it 🤣. Those alignment tools are so handy, spud wrenches are okay, but that size looks perfect. Great stuff. Cheers

Hello from uk.
Another great show.
See you on Wednesday.
Have a Jesus filled day everyone
Greg in Michigan
Hey John, You're not the only one that loves these pry bars. I have over a half a dozen of them and wouldn't want to try doing some of the things I do without the use of one. I have 2 comments. Add some load to your A/C generator, I think that the effort needed to create voltage will increase. The bigger the load the more effort will be required. Also, I loved the pry bar.
Mike- You are spot on, with a load the dynamo is super hard to turn!! 😃👍
Well good thing the shocking stops once you stop cranking, 300 volts can definitely do some damage if you’re being shocked continuously.
The proto 2116 is an alignment tool. supposed to have a pointed tip. but you can make it anyway you want. Stanley/Proto still makes it in the USA. Good job on its renewal!
Hi George- I saw the pointed tip on their website, the only issue is many times too sharp of a Point gets dinged up or used as a punch! 😂👍
I also love the smell of butchers wax and I have a few Jimmy line up pry bars they are very handy
Got ya
That is an awesome generator with crazy power, I wonder what the amps are. My two classic style crow bars I painted hi-viz yellow because when I use them there is usually a bunch of junk getting pulled apart ending up in a big mess on the floor.
20 dollars totally worth it put on a bike power a tiny village
A few more tool restorations to go - the top of the vise jaws (11:30) will be completely restored as well! I've observed how close each tool is in the vise jaws and the abrasive wheel is shining the top of the jaws. It is just a part of tool restoration - except now its time to restore the Vise!
I have a almost NOS Stanley 700 Vise but this one is just for use. 😃👍
John, Gilligan could of used a generator like that. He could have powered the whole island! The prybar looks really nice. I assume you put the wax on it also. ✌🇺🇸Roger
Yes- Only on Metal I use Mothers Carnauba Cleaner Wax. 😃👍
I really appreciate you showing how you did your hammer handle. Is it just kansas or are other places having trouble finding shellac. I’ve been looking for about 4 months at Menards and now they have pulled the tags and have filled the space with polyurethane. Thank You for sharing
A few years back the price almost tripled! I love bulls eye but real woodworkers buy Shellac flakes and make their own. 😃👍
i gave mine to a coworker when i retired after 20 years, many times i regretted that decision.
My first thought with the generator was "I wonder if it could be used to recharge things like cell phone battery pack or rechargeable flashlight s when the pier is off. Now that would be great!
Power not pier but I am sure you got that
