So if I add some timeline footage to the fusion tab and then want to separately grade 3d text that is 3D merge with it in the colour tab I can connect the 3d text node it to a render node and then that to a new media out to treat it independently to the footage with grading ?

That last one is genius! A huge time saver.
Does this also work for camera animation? Like, if I want the 3D camera to be at one point, looking at x,y and some other frame at another point looking at other coordinates. Can I do the first using that method, then hit keyframe, go to the target frame and repeat that to set a new keyframe for camera movement?
I may still have to insert more keyframes and easing the splines to get a smooth animation but still, would this be possible?

This off topic - do you have any suggestions to work with mixamo animations, without turning the computer into an indoor nuclear reactor?

LOL unfortunately the only way I know how to do it is by importing them into Blender first, which might not be what you're looking for.
