    Bret Hart was a filmmaker who wrestled. He was always sculpting his legacy and working to tell a much larger story. Bret had a vision of the story he wanted his career as wrestler to represent. That is what made him unique as well as misunderstood by many of his peers. It is also why he is great and his matches stand the test of time.

If you haven’t seen Greg’s interviews, drop his name in the search field. Both these guys make you feel as if you’re on the voyage with them from 1980s through today. He'l put himself number o1 everytime.... well actually there is ONE guy.. one guy that Bret was truly in awe of.. a guy Bret ALWAYS felt he was behind n playing catch up.. A guy that, Bret just stayed quiet n paid his dues , went along with everything just so he could SHARE THE RING and learn from this guy... Bret, however proud he is of his carer n his background wiv his dad n stampede wrestling which literally, like Floyd Mayweather was modelled n groomed to be a wrestler from the womb, He was learning nearly everything from the age of EIGHTEEN, n saw it n learnt it all from a young age.. But there was another guy out there from across the sea in England, who was EVEN MORE talented.. and learnt shoot wrestling, gymlastics , japanese style, highflying, innovating stuff NEVER seen or attempted b4, rolls, flips the lot, and this was from SIXTEEN!! Yes Bret was a GOOD wrestler at 18 20..he became a GREAT wrestler at around 24. The dynamite Kid already was a GREAT wrestler at 18-19, he was the best, Bret knows it n has NEVER denied it. Bret is correct. Davey never took the time to apply himself with his promo's. He was in a great position in 1992 but could not put it all together to move up the next rung. His drug abuse and lack of charisma cost him a massive amount of money and a huge spot. By 2000 when he came back he was done, his body was shot and there was no way he was getting a top spot. A proper sad story.

    • @ClassicKrusty
      @ClassicKrusty Před 5 lety +2

      Rob Nathan Davy didn’t have the best look either. Bulky yet short stature and his ring attire was crap once it morphed into something else. Same reason Lex never really got over in WWE. They had similar issues with their characters

      @RobJNathanSings Před 5 lety +3

      KlassicKrusty I thought his look was okay circa 1992/1993 with the whole British garb. It’s clear to me his abuse problems caused him massive inconsistencies as a performer. That and his voice and accent was a joke haha.

      David Carter again as Bret said, he had to be carried. If he was with a worker like Bret or Owen who could lead he was a great opponent. Anyone looking to him for inspiration or to carry them is when it turned to garbage as he was not a leader in the ring.

      @josephdelledonne2098 Před 5 lety +1

      Davey Boy Smith was a huge guy that wasn't particularly ripped, kind of like Hogan. I can't watch The Wembley match despite how great it was; it's because to me Davey looked terrible, he had a huge gut. I remember I was actually big on Davey because of his size and power at the time, but looking back, as I mentioned, he looked terrible in 92. I remember he was in the ring with Bret once during an interview and my grandfather says that Bulldog looks like a fat pig! He looked better in 94 and 95, but he was just too big for his body. Those chemicals are no good.
      Vince still pushed him time and time again, and he main evented IYH shows with Bret and Shawn. He even main evented a show with Diesel. His IYH match with Bret was his best ever imo, even better than the Wembley one. He was in The Cornette Stable with Owen, Vader, Yoko, at times. He was pushed more than Owen was, and it seems they valued him a little more, so I guess those chemicals helped because if it wasn't for that, he wouldn't have gotten that push. He never got the belt though. I think the problem with him is no matter how hard they tried, he lacked charisma which is the single most important thing in wrestling. That's why fat guys like Dusty gets pushed and guys like Warlord don't. Furthermore, like you all also stated, he was terrible on the mic. He just sounded dumb, I remember one time with his accent he tried sounding like Stone Cold during his last run by saying he was going to stomp a mudhole in someone. Also, he had too many substance abuse issues. I wanted him to get the belt, but he would have been a terrible WWF Champ, he would have drawn worse than Diesel. In the states anyways where most of the business was done.
      His work was an issue to. He was big and could do acrobatic stuff here and there, and he was believable as a power wrestler. He had the great matches with Bret and Owen to. Now here's the but, despite everything, he couldn't have a great match with everyone. I didn't think his match with Diesel that everyone crumbs on was that bad, but the problem was it was nothing special. Davey had to be a worker because he didn't have the charisma of Hulk, the size of Diesel, and the fans were getting sick of seeing the one dimensional huge guys put on crappy matches anyways. They wanted more. Davey was great when he was in with someone great, but if he's asked to carry a match, he couldn't do it.

    And the only reason Eric sabotaged his career was because I'm sure Hogan was involved. He tried to do it in the WWF and did it once again in WCW. They were both butt buddies doing stupid shit in WCW.
