  • Wiring details to retain the Steering Wheel Controls when installing an aftermarket radio Atoto A6 on a toyota Sienna 2nd gen 2004 to 2010. Might work similarly for other radio handling resistive SWC
This should be similar on other Toyota vehicles of the same year range (tacoma, rav4, corolla, camry...), maybe with some wire color changes.
    Parts needed:
$7 Metra 70-8114 --- Steering wheel control harness (identical for most toyotas of that era?)
$5 Metra 70-1761 --- Radio wiring harness (identical for most toyotas of that era?)
$13 Metra 95-8208 --- Metra double DIN Install kit fascia (Sienna specific)
    TLDR:
Toyota Yellow wire to Atoto black ground
Toyota Green wire to Atoto orange black Steering Wheel Key (+) with 220 Ohms resistance
Toyota Blue wire to Atoto brown black Steering Wheel Key # (+) with 2000 Ohms resistance
Credits to "Elizabeth City Pawn and Guns" and "Adam M" for figuring most of this out.

hi, Paul, thank you so much sharing this solution with us. It works fine on my Sienna 2005, super. I was about to ask ATOTO when I couldn't figure out the resistor values they used. They should open this design parameter to users.

Definitely, I have seen multiple videos where people connect the wires directly. What are voltages coming out from the steering wheel volume controls?

I just installed an Atoto A8 in my 04 Sienna and did not need the resistors to make the steering wheel controls operate. Maybe the newer model corrected the need for resistors? I don’t know. I had the same color coded wires as this video, without resistors, works fine.

I’m going to install an Atoto S8 standard Gen2 in a 2007 Camry. I matched all the Metra wiring harness without the resistors to the stock harness (Atoto said they are not necessary) so we shall see. Also the stock Camry headunit is NON JBL.

What’s the purpose of adding the resistors exactly, is it necessary? I have a 97 4runner and I did a steering wheel swap to a new 05 Toyota Corolla with the steering controls and I got this kit and found your video on wiring very informative.

Thanks. It depends on the radio you bought. Most radios detect button pushes with a change in resistance in the circuit. So you need the baseline resistance to match what the radio is expecting.

@@paulpianca3045 ahhh ok sounds like it’s out of league at that point since the steering wheel wiring isn’t built into this harness, I would have to make a sub harness to the radio unit

Hey Paul, thanks for making this video. I have installed JVC KW-M730 BT in my Sienna 2004. Do you think this solution will work for me with same resistance?

Well, oddly my 2006 Sienna LE (non-JBL) doesn’t work with the wires alone, or with the proper resistors. I’ve repeatedly checked my setup and it’s a no-go with my Atoto A6. Really bummed.
