- Flite Test - Rare Bear - REVIEW
In this episode the Josh's talk about Care Bears? NO WAY! Josh and Josh talk about the bigger and better Rare Bear from Roland at eotmodels.com. The two review the plane while having a little mixup with the name. Watch this episode to see how it flys... Or flew.

Josh B, I can say y'all have came a LONG way with the Professional skills in the past four years. 👍 Did you think back then y'all would be where you are now? 😃 You guys ROCK!!
I used to have strange crashes like that when I had that brand of radio. Now I have a Frsky Taranis and for the first time have full confidence in my radio and can confidently blame myself for crashing which happens way less now.
Cool review and flying, glad to finally see a non-hobbyking plane shown. I feel sorry about it but I couldn't help laughing when the plane went into a dive right when Josh got it!
Thanks so much for frequently posting these GREAT videos!
Like your straight up honest reviews, the best HK reviews by far... Well done!
Ray: I have been a r/c hobby builder, and pilot from the 1960,s .love what you guys are doing with the hobby now. Ready to go for quadcopter,or triecopter. I want to scratch build, so I can learn fpv flying. I am learning a lot from you all. Keep up good work. Ray Arkansas
Nice episode guys.. i was chuckling the whole way through...
I like people like this, passionate and creative
Couldn't find this on hobbyking anywhere! I guess it really is the rare bear!
Thanks for the honest video! Josh don't feel bad I crashed my super cub the same way! But like Josh b. says put it back together and fly again! And Josh b. you are a great teacher!
Looks like fun to fly!
@rgcroes100 You can buy one on Rolands website. The link is in the description.
Nice review again guys. one suggestion though, it seems like you only review foamie electrics, how about something maybe IC?
@RCcunuk - I have a DX8, but waited to buy until they came out with the 2.01 firmware in March and in 25 hours of use haven't had one single problem!
Hey Josh sorry about that, looking forward for the next flight! Great video! Thumbs up!
Bye!
totally agree to you guys, one time bought a new plane, went out for a test fly and the ailerons were reversed, plane smashed into pieces. Felt like selling all the parts i have and just forget about rc. Good thing i somehow fixed the plane and i can enjoy flying it
The day this was uploaded is mah b day!!!
The new proyect:
Teach Josh to fly !!!
Come one, he can do that.
saludos desde México.
@walterkirsch it means all that funky "roll it while flying and eight really really slow" stuff, torque rolling so it hangs by its prop etc. How I understand "flying 3D" is basically silly aerobatics where most of the maneuvers are done using HUGE thrust to weight ratio, large control surfaces and so on so that plane seems to be doing all kind of stuff that a plane normally does not do. Like fly using it's wings instead of prop power only.
@elm70 I actually thought that for a second myself but it would be very hard to do that while flying with any radio. The DX8 is very user friendly but not that user friendly. I really hope that wouldn't be the case.
hay Flite Test is there maybe a chance that you can review the hacker zoom 4u and Timber? would be great to see them in one of your future videos
@AceMcMoron : Yeh, I agree, this was not Josh's fault. I've watched the replay again and if the video is sync'd correctly his inputs did not match the planes direction and there was no stall. Airspeed seemed good.
Could you do a video of the repaired plane flight please and how did repairs go?? thanks
Very nice plane. You really got me worried about my Spektrum radio and the knock off receivers. I am not loyal to any brand but if it does not work fess up and pay up.
If it is 3D, it is made for the purpose of flying below stall speed. So you'd rate how well it does that to determine if it is for 3D. If it is very fast, it's not good for 3D, because it means throttle control is difficult near stall speed. If it has control surfaces too small to give full control of the plane below stall speed, it isn't good for 3D. If it has a high wing loading, it will stall at a higher speed and react more violently. 3D would be very light, very slow, and giant control
@FrostbiteUK
Nah, Scott only chopped the throttle when the plane was lawn-darting already. Must have been Anthony realizing they were flying a non HK-plane! Or maybe Dave from HH, realizing they were flying a Spektrum receiver from HK!
@foot8sativa Not really brownout when they are using HK clones, they are using park range HK receivers near power lines or towers of sort. Like he says it happens.
@elm70
How do you reverse the channel with the trim-knob? I don't know the DX8 that well, but the in the DX7 it would be tricky...
Its hammertime LOL luv that bit.
I have crashed so many times because of spektrum glitching. I changed to futaba and haven't had an issue since.
@Lithoushine Ive got both and they both work Great! no problems with either.
Length and Pitch (Inch ?) of the prop work the best? Thank you
@kdnjwest don't you think I had made sure everything was correct after 2 planes were totalled off?
Is bicycle helmet made of EPP? Bacyse it's very light and tough. What's the other type of package foam(light, elestic, dense, looks like millions of foam bubbles) you get when buy small electronics, like rice cooker, microwave, game console, tv.
What size prop did you guys use?
what motor on hobbyking while run a 6 x 4 prop?
I think the problem was interference from the tower. I belive there are a lot of GSM antennas. Some days ago I've crashed my tricopter flying close to a GSM tower.
A crash always looks worse when it 1st happens. It's always better to take a day and then go through the damage. It's always easier to fix than it 1st looks.
I know this was awhile ago but I really think when people mention hobbyking prices they should mention "plus shipping" pretty much every other price quote is with shipping, thats just how we do it on the internet. That's the only reason I haven't made a hobbyking order yet is whenever I pick some stuff out the shipping is ridiculous and I feel like I'm being scammed. With shipping you can pretty much get everything elsewhere cheaper, eBay, banggood, gearbest, aliexpress ect. I realize they combine shipping so its not the same as other stores (although most eBay shops will combine shipping if you message them) but if you just say plus shipping it seems less scammy.
@redhotpearl1 Actually with my old Futaba FX-18 reverse a channel is couple of click ... but yes, not trivial to do while flying. Also other possibility, it is that Josh was flying with Elevator in reverse ... a good pilot has no problem to handle it.
@UtRadioGuy I have had a Dx6i for over a year and it is the cause of totally destroying 3 planes beyond repair. I will never buy another spektrum poduct again. I am glad you have had good luck with yours
Beautiful
you put.. the ESC inside the plane? won't it just heat up allot?
I am upset at the lack of Rare Bear countdown.
EXACT same thing happened to me when I took a chance and let my friend try to fly my plane. Same nose damage too. I'm not saying it's aliens, but... aliens.
*ILLUMINATI confirmed*
Is that Roland G Murphy? As in RGM watches?
blue, the best answer from Scott so far...
I think josh turned the radio off while handing it to josh---what are friends for!!!!!!!!
I've had the same thig on my guppy motoglider, the servo from the elevator just got crazy and stuck in down position so the plane hit the groud, due tu the heavy duild is broje, the nasty servo got me.
@catamaranman333 3D planes have ridiculously large control surfaces that are larger than the static stabilizers they are attached to. Sport planes such as this one just have very large control surfaces for agility at low speeds. 3D planes have insanely huge control surfaces for agility at and below stall speed.
How do I find out what class i'm in?
I bet they bumped a switch when they handed the transmitter over.
Have 25 models running on Spectrum and never had an issue yet.
Could that be one of the DX8 issues? I have a DX8 and love it but have already sent mine in to HH once and now there are new product bulletins effecting other DX8's, all could cause THAT. Josh holding down the elevator stick so the plane should have gone up not straight down. It's either a brown our or a DX8 firmware issue IMO.
PS. I lost my 3DHS edge to being zapped on 72mhz. I know that feeling of adding inputs and the plane just falling. Not a good feeling....great video as always though!
How do you think this plane would be for fpv?
"-What are those?
-Servos!
-What kind of servos?
-Blue!"
Genius!
Josh was pulling back yes, but shouldn't have cut the throttle. A stall perhaps was the cause of the crash? It did seem weird.
@foot8sativa I completely agree with you
Hi guys, where can one buy the rare bear rc airplane kit. thank
@E744763Productions Hmmm, no, I don't remember that. But I am sure it happened. I have flown futaba for years without any issues and alot of my flying buds the same. Those guys with spectrum that I know have had troubles in the past but Spectrum always treated them very well. Chevy, Ford, Toyota - tomato or tamato, your choice. BTW, I really like your channel so I subscribed.
J
How much is this? Rolands sites down. Link?
Is this plane available from HK
So there are really two groups of planes. If more than 50% of the wing/tail moves than its 3D, if it's less than 50% its a sport pane?
The ol' uncontrolled flight into terrain. The pilot reports pulling back on the throttle and the stick at the same time. Stall condition. I've lost enough pilots to know.
Yep. It's a judgement call. I think it's an easy judgement call though.
@sbolandatutube I use 6mm and 20mm depron, and reinforced with 2mm balsa.
I was like full down elevator input :P...maybe elevator was reversed? or it was upside down?
speaking of crashes how many planes have you crashed Bixler? :P
the tail feathers have more force on them so dont put your bigger servos on the wing.
So, what, exactly, are the criteria for being a 3D plane? What makes this one fall short of the mark?
Same RC MAN i was saving up for car but may have to learn to fly
@PC9JEFF
hahahaha! My spectrum works great, brotha!!!
Nice Video BUT, why did the plane crash? Trashy electronics?
Blimey! you get sad after crashing an ARTF model? Bit of UHU POR and its good as new, try crashing a balsa kit model!
Just out of interest, do you range check all your models, every time you change electrical components. I was brought up to always do this and it has saved me on many occasions!
Was in fact not Josh Scott's fault, he pulled hard up in fact and the plane just nosedived... weird!
i would get one , it would be my 1st war bird but they get too much money for what the buyers getting--id leave the canopy clear-- some would replace the ele servo now
For the crash, the planes movements vs the sticks do not match. I'd have to say a lock out.
I would have thought that was a setup too until I saw that it was a spectrum. 19 years of fast hard flying and if I crashed it was my fault, lost one prop job and one 90mm Rclander edf in 2 weeks. Complete signal loss. Spectrum makes quantity not quality.
I've always preferred RC cars but these guys are making me want a plane badly
Do it rc man you got this! there are tones of options out there that are super cheap ! we need more people out there to keep this hobby aliveand it's a blast !
Spektrum have a recall, alert whatever on particular radios using the DSMX tech... Check it out...Didn't notice which of the radio range you had.. So if thats doesn't apply disregard this post
lol funniest thing ***you wanna cry - throw up all over your care bear. best part of my day. thanks for the laugh
i would get one , it would be my 1st war bird but they get too much money for what the buyers getting--id leave the canopy clear
Fly Futaba and your worries will go away......LOL!
@foot8sativa or ... they can get a real radio called .... futaba
these guys are actually pretty funny. not bad. not bad.
spektrum brownout strikes again...... maybe its time for a DIY video on how to change your spektrum to frsky DIY module
Use that Hammer on the Spektrum!, not the plane!!.
Wait... this is in canada right?
The show is filmed in canton Ohio actually.
+Puppter MEH.... close enough *looks at map* oh shit
@FrostbiteUK It didn't look like it. It was flying pretty nice, but it just went down, didn't look like a stall.
i would get one , it would be my 1st war bird but they get too much money for what the buyers getting
lol - "I'll grab the little pieces......"
yet again, that is why i fly futaba
Not atlantically :D
Just blow the screen up to 400%, and found out it is a 11x5.5 prop
@PC9JEFF At least Spektrum ownes up to their mistakes, ever heard of the Zero GUID Futaba issue a year ago? Ripped off abunch of people for awhile before fixing the issue. Don't get me wrong, I use both brands of radios and I have never ever had any problems but EVERy 2.4 radio company even Airtronics and Hitec have issues.
Josh(little experience) never gets to fly without some malfunction or other josh(20yrs experience) crashes
@RCcunuk - You must have something going on. Because I havent destroyed 3 planes in 20 years. Not even one.
8:13 This why u dont want to buy Spektrum!
Josh Scott has now been around a while, still can't fly. Very funny.
So the answer is that there is no specific criteria for being considered a 3D plane.....If it does 3D well, it's a 3D plane.
D: spectrum dx8 all day every day
