  • For this beginner Funky Flowers decorating class I wanted to make a set that was as accessible as possible: I bring you 9 different designs on flowers! I used the 3.5" 6 petal flower from Brighton Cutters.
I made this set with at-home beginner cookiers in mind, so it uses ONE consistency (my thick flood) and JUST 4 colors (I used white, pink, yellow and teal, but I encourage you to use whatever color combo makes you happy!) Yes, you heard that right! Now that's my kind of beginner class!

I think a lot of people don't realize that every craft is simply variations of the same action. I've recently started doing some pretty elaborate doilies. I've had people ask how I do that. My answer? One loop at a time. It's literally just variations of catching yarn/thread with a hook and pulling it through a loop/hole.
Chain stitch? Start with a loop on the hook, catch the yarn, pull it through the loop.
Single crochet? Start with a loop on the hook, put the hook inside another loop, catch the yarn, pull the hook back out, catch the yarn, pull it through the loops.
Double? Wrap the yarn around the hook once, put the hook inside another loop, catch the yarn, pull the hook back out, catch the yarn, pull it through two loops, catch the yarn, pull it through the last two loops.
Treble? ☝️, except wrap the yarn around the hook twice before putting it into the loop.
There's a really complex stitch in a pattern that I'm working on right now that ends with it looking somewhat like an upside down fan. But it still breaks down to simply wrapping the yarn around the hook, going into another loop, and pulling yarn through the loops on the hook.
With the cookie decorating, it all comes down to squeezing icing onto the cookie and then manipulating it. What people refer to as the techniques are just variations on that.
Think on your "pink lemonade" cookie. You mentioned that you could do a dot instead of a bar and it would give you a little bit of a different look. You'd also get a different look if you did an arch instead. What would the effect be if you did concentric petals instead of circles? It's all the same technique of dragging the scribe through the icing. You mentioned getting the drying time right for the crackle technique or you'll get divots instead. That's a look on its own.
I haven't gotten to your advanced techniques yet, but I imagine what makes them advanced isn't the techniques themselves, but mastering the skills involved in squeezing the icing, learning the appropriate drying times, and manipulating the icing with finesse.

I love that! One loop at a time! Or in my case... one squeeze, one scribe pull, one crack at a time🙂

You can never have too much crackle. End of.

I'm extremely disappointed that I BOUGHT AND PAID FOR this class about a week ago, and now it's posted for FREE. Not a happy customer. Lesson learned: Wait, she'll post it soon enough for free

Thank you so much for purchasing the class! There is a big difference between my free content and my paid content ❤ My CZcams tutorials show you one cookie at a time and I’m just doing a voiceover over the decorating video I already filmed. The class that you purchased includes a 1.5 hour class video and a 77 page workbook-many people have said the class is worth is just for the workbook. The workbook includes (as some examples): step-by-step written instructions for each cookie (including photos and descriptions), 12 pages of how to prep your icing for the set (how much icing, colors, mixing consistencies, etc), ways to save money when executing this particular set, pre-viewing checklist (everything that needs to be prepped before decorating), and a printable practice sheet that is used during the class. The class recording is very different from the CZcams tutorial: it starts with how to cut/hold the bags, piping practice and then the decorating is done jumping around steps in different cookies so they’re all done at the same time (just like I would decorate myself). The recording is much longer as I'm demonstrating different techniques and pausing to explain things (much more information than I can give in the CZcams tutorials that don't stop). The videos are all private CZcams videos and I do welcome questions in the comments section which I always answer (on my public CZcams I’m not able to answer all questions). You'll see this video is 30 minutes and does not include any of these additional resources. Hope you enjoy these additional resources ❤❤❤
