We've all dreamed of making an open class dirt bike street legal, and there she is... beautiful!
My dad managed to get a street legal title for his 1977 Husqvarna 360CR, back when the DMV didn't really have the resources to look up obscure VINs. Took it down, the dude looked it over, saw something that looked like a headlight, speedo, etc (all not hooked up!) and they got the ball rolling on recovering the "lost" title. Now all he has to do is renew tags. The thing is completely outrageous. It'll dust off anyone's Harley with ease until it runs out of 6th gear.
@@JETZcorp ...I had a Husqvarna CR 500 1983. She had four gears, didn't matter because at eighty mph I could make the front wheel dance up and down with a twist. I've owned a lot of bikes, but that one was my favorite! She was also surprising great in the Maine woods trail riding. I wish I never sold it.
@@johnhansen7499 My regular bike for 15 years now has been my 1982 Husky 250CR. I would love to get a 500 motor and put it in the frame. But I already have a 440 Maico too, so that does mostly scratch the big-bore itch.

@@JETZcorp ...I remember the 83 Husqvarna CR 250 was a really nice bike! I also believe she was a six speed. I'm sure that the 82 is a great bike as well. I've been waiting to see some Husqvarna s to go into the museum.

Right I was gonna break his balls about that but u just made a real good point it is impossible probably why u don’t see to many street legal,but if u did change the sprockets for more top end it would help keep that front wheel down.

If u unicycle may ride on one wheel, so may any CR.
So I live in SoCal. I bought a used 2014 Yz450 that had all the stuff needed to be street legal but was still just a red sticker and off highway. I went to my dmv to have it inspected to get plates. The folks there were clueless on the specific laws for manufacturing a road bike and just gave me a new title that says enduro motorcycle instead of off highway and now I’m plated and good to go. One of the best days of my life
I had a moderator on a dirt bike forum tell me it’s impossible to do that in Ca.

I’m in so cal too. I had a local independent registration place take care of this for me best 200$ I have ever spent getting my XR650R plated.
@@ratbrain7743 it’s supposed to be impossible unless your specific bike meats emission standards for California which 99% of dirt bikes don’t. I got lucky because they had no clue what they were doing

The great thing about my street legal KX500 is it runs out of gas before the vibrations kill you!
@Josh B they are really more of a novelty to ride around than anything, getting off the 500 and on to my counterbalanced 1999 FX600e makes it feel like the husaberg isn't even running
Haha yeah right! Not exactly a sport tourer is it but you can have a ton of thrills in that short amount of time. Huge smiles in very few miles 😁😁😁
what kit did you use for street legal stuff on your 500? i have a 500 and can’t find a good kit for it. i have a video of mine on my channel.
@@Nick-Edwards I run my lights off a couple 18650 batteries, they last a very long time with LEDs and I rarely actually ride it at night anyhow
@@Nick-Edwards you just need a horn, brake light, hi/lo beam headlight, and a mirror. Turn signals aren't mandatory, you have arms for that.
In the 90’s you could buy a road-going CRE500 from Honda Italy. It was an enduro CR500.
If I remember Honda Italy had a 'road legal' kit made. Had a lighting coil, lights, handlebar switches, a stand and a subframe for the rear mudguard so you could hang all the lights and mudguard.
You could also buy the kits on their own. I bought one, in about 93and had it shipped to me in the UK. I fitted the kit, made it into a supermoto and road registered it.
Used to do the occasional supermoto race, but mainly used it on the road.
In 2000 a friend put the engine into a CR250 beam frame for me.
I’ve still got it. It’s still road registered but I haven’t used it in years.
It spat me off on a cold rear tyre one day and I broke my ankle.
I’ll probably never sell that bike! ❤️

I think it has something to do with the sound and feel of the bike let's face it most people do not drag knees and elbows on an MX bike to corner it they have a foot outstretched and push off like they are on a skateboard Lol! Old habits die hard regardless of the terrain. I bet if senior spent the next few years racing these bikes as super motards we would see a different suit and riding technique manifest.

I like the way it does a powerwheelie before the powerband and when the powerband starts hitting you will see the bike speeding up even more and going up even more

Only because of Kaplan cycles motorcycle sales. The museum would be LONG gone without us. It is supported 99% by Kaplan and was closed by covid for 1 year!

I own 3 kx 500's. A parts bike, an AF conversion, and a street legal one. License plate "KX 5." This is a man after my own heart.... Seems like Honda and aftermarket are making it easier to own a CR 500 "forever?" Kawi parts getting hard to find 😥. Any suggestions for KX 500 parts/ support other than ebay? Ya, as much fun as they are on the dirt, the pavement is just as fun. ...your wheelies are much better than mine, tho. Thanks for the video.
The CR500 came from the factory street legal. It was called the CR500E, most countries except America got them......God bless America :)
My uncle did this with his KX500 around the year 2003. He loved it and would ride it around everywhere. My dad raced motocross around here and rode pretty much his whole life. That KX was the only bike I’ve ever seen get squirrelly on him LOL RIP to my awesome uncle

Sweet ride,,, never had a tagged dirt bike til my KTM"s,,,, buzzed the streets since i was a kid
on all my dirt bikes, always a blast ripping the streets, shoot into the woods then back on the street, Hell, I ripped through my High School between periods once, bit slippery but made it through end to end and out the gym,, I so needed a Go Pro" growing up.
I can tell you this the roads in northern Minnesota have seen our cr500 many many times. 🙂
i hava a 95 cr500 streetlegal here in holland. when i go tru town with the beast people hate the noise. a few who know what a cr500 is love it and i get a thumbs up. kids will start to cry when i pass them about the noise the beast make. so its always a happening when i get it tru town. love it.

I’m living in Massachusetts and ride. Ever since I was able to comprehend what a dirt bike was I sat in the back seat of my family’s cars looking out the windows fantasizing about riding on the highway. And that cr500 exceeded my fantasy. I ride my ct70 on the road lol. (I got it to hit over 70mph).

The 500 I put in a 1997 250 frame was a dual purpose for the road. Reason being I live right on top of Salisbury plain. Was easy to roll her out fire her up, then gone with the wind in a plume of sweet smelling castrol r. Why I ever sold it who knows. Wish I could send a few photos to you to have a look at. 👍👍👍

I love this idea and have had it for years! When my RZ350 engine seized up, I wanted to put a Cr500 engine in it! Moved to West Coast and never got around to that!
I'd stick with the RZ motor! With a set of chambers it's in the ballpark for power. And with all the Banshee aftermarket stuff you can take R6s to school with a built RZ!
@@JETZcorp With the proper cases from Matoon Machine a d a custom billet crank, you can build a 2000cc twin making 200+ hp, if your bank account can handle it. MM also has cases that will make it a triple or even an inline 4!

Did that to my 2007 XR650R along with HRC kit. Got it tagged thru Vermont.

Not to compare but I managed to get a 430 husky automatic licensed in about 2004. Wicked loud and you can't putt around on an automatic. So there is only one level of volume. Anyway I only wrote it on the street twice or three times I think but it was pretty darn cool. Yours is cooler and your wheelie skills certainly exceed mine!! All the best
