- We have here a 2011 Cadillac SRX that just had a used engine put in it. Now it has codes P0016 and P0017. It is also running rich with codes P0172 and P0175. It is running poorly at idle. Hope you enjoy!

Cadillac are a breed all by themselves, where I live nobody wants to work on them!! Love watching dive in to a can of worms and come out victorious!!! Mush respect my friend!!!!
Thanks for all your support Jeff!
hanks for all your videos I've been a tech for 35 years and have much respect for your diagnostic process. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Shoutout to Ray! Great video! L1 is a great resource too, Keith does a great job.
Couple tips for these gm engines. In camshaft data there is variance which shows the difference between desired and command. Also if you scope all 4 cam sensor at once they all should line up in 1 spot per 720 crank. Maybe twice but I know for sure all 4 cam leading edges line up when they are in time
On this engine, I could not find the variance PID I checked everywhere, not sure if it's a scantool issue or if this vehicle, for some reason does not have it. It seems like on this engine, only the intakes line up. I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean. Thanks for watching!
The variances data pids are on your scanner , saw them while you were scrolling
@@brucecolonna184 Whoops, I guess I was spaced out 😀
It for sure was there. I seen it when you were selecting the PID. If I remember right it is in the camshaft data right around the "desired" @@advancedleveldiagnostics
I think its 3 rising edges line up with 1 falling or something like that. You have to scope all 4 cam sensors at once to see what Im talking about. I cant remember where I read about this but it was true on the last one I did. @@advancedleveldiagnostics
Most engines that I have seen out of time, show one bank lean and the other rich. After seeing this a couple times, I dug into it and it was very simple. Lower compression on one bank was the cause. Most that I saw this on, were the fords, like the edge or flex. I think it was because the water pump gear cocking sideways. It made the length between banks way different than normal.
I would be interested in someone explaining why both banks would be rich from timing correlation. I just haven't seen it myself, not saying it isn't so.
I would assume that the timing chain moved off the crank, so the cams are still the same causing both banks to be low on compression.
You've probably already ripped it down by now, but... check the oil pressure with a manual gauge! The r/h (rear) bank oiling system IMHO is gimped from the get go. And with low-ish oil pressure, the oil spray off the tensioner just doesn't hit the chain. 1/2 of it already hits the backside of the tensioner arm on a good day. Stick a pin or something in the jet hole and see where it points, you'll see what I mean.
focusing on getting those timing captures while also capturing the process on video isn't easy
you handled it well
Thank you I appreciate it! I'm working on slowing down and trying to explain better because I was getting some complaints. It's not as easy in the moment.
@@advancedleveldiagnostics you do you ... don't slow down ... I think the strength of your video style reflects the hustle and time constraints of the business you're in ...
viewers get the sense of real world diag from start to finish...don't lose that:)
Hey man! Great job!!! You slowed the presentation down and talked great! Awesome!!
Glad you liked it!
Shout out to Mr Ray. lol. One of my day one supporters
Super helpful ! Extraordinary detail !! I learned lots !!! Thanks mate 👊🏼
Glad it was helpful!
Ohhh . Right on ! Thanks for the answer .
Nice job, As a view or this type of video, I like to see the face of the technitian, so I can put the video with the person. so far i have watch like 3 of your video and I have not seen your face. This is my opition.
everyone needs some of their privacy. I always leave it up to the guy spending all his extra time making the video. Diaging the car takes long enough, (they always give me the auction cars, with all new aftermarket parts replaced already). It's always a puzzle but feels good once you can prove you were right in the end.
I had same problem with colors, had to adjust in settings custom . The black back ground is a bit easier to see then the white in sun light.

Good video thank you for posting it. By the way what tablet you using with the pico ?
Thanks! I'm using a Dell Latitude 7212 Rugged Tablet.

Thank you for the reply
Can you please do a work truck tour.
Quick question what website are u using for known good waveforms,I'm familiar with iatn but the info is not always there , thanks an great video btw!!!
I use www.l1training.com/ It's a training site but it also has a free waveform Library. Or I use Diag.net .
Who makes the orange multiple ground connector you're using on this video, where did u buy it?
I got it from @JoesAutoElectric

When I see a cam code l put the engine in clear flood mode and listen to the engine crank.
What if the VVT was causing the problem???
I know the vvt's work because I can actuate them, the only way they can cause this problem is if they are stuck open. I find the chances of them all being stuck open very unlikely. Even more the intakes were identical on both banks so they would have to be stuck open the same amount.
👍
great stuff
Thanks!
I can't understand what you say about where you get free waveforms. Will appreciate it if you clarify

Nail polish to the rescue 😂.
Nice!
Thanks!
What are the specs on that dell latitude? It seems really quick. I would like to get 1 for my scope as well.
I would not recommend it, I have lots of problems with it stalling and it takes forever to save a file. I edited out all those problems. I find my Toughbook cf33 works a lot better.
Thanks for the heads up.
What oscilloscope is that ?
Picoscope 4425A it's mounted on the back of a Dell Tablet
Are you being charged for updates on the Topdon?
Not yet it came with 2 years free updates.
