The guy on the "keys" is the prodigious James Francies. He put out a solo album a few years back that put him on the map. "Flight". He and Yebba have collaborated for several years. Pat Metheny snatched him up for his 2021-22 World Tour, playing for the first time without a bass player! Just Pat, a drummer and James with an unbelievable keyboard rig, his left hand working it so you never feel like a bass player is missing (there are some clips on youtube). So much young talent out there, it´s inspiring. And I totally agree about the back-up singers....off the charts! Yebba in my opinion is the singer/songwriter of a generation...Ella, Aretha, Joni, Chaka, Jazmine...so exciting! Thanks for your reaction!

I may have missed it, but in all these great Yebba Tiny Desk reactions, I haven't seen anyone point out that the great Quest Love of The Roots is on drums. That says so much about her talent to have someone of his talent perform with her. Great reaction. Thank you so much!

Quest love is not on drums. I think you are talking about another video. In this video someone is playing a MPC machine for drums

I'm a longtime pro background singer and I cannot express how much respect people are directing their way! Yebba herself is very selective about who backs her and everything is smooth and clean and tight!

I think the levels she’s changing are purely in ear. Looks like there’s only one input. Don’t think she has any effects - which is testimony to her amazing talent

what many ppl have observed in the comment section on the original video is that she is adjusting the balance of sounds in her ear pieces

The machine she is utilizing is a modem day equalizer. It has a different channel for each musician, instrument, and feedback of her vocals via a wireless earpiece. No manipulation of her live songs. All that sound is authentically herself and a genuine voice. She knows how to change her instrument without any effects. A true vocal and natural genius.

The piano player is none other than James Francies. Yebba did a guest turn as the vocalist on his album "Flight" a couple of years back. The song is titled "My Day Will Come". You should definitely check it out. It's fire.

I listen to this on repeat. I had never heard the recorded versions. A few days ago I listened to the recorded versions and I was MAD because this version is so much better. 😂 They’re good too but this whole mini concert is the best 🔥

    FYI
Yebba, born Abbey Smith, from West Memphis, Arkansas. She's PK and cites The Clark Sisters and Aretha Franklin as heavy influences. She lead Praise and Worship. She won a Grammy with PJ Morton. Her Sofar performance of 'My Mind' was her breakout set and she was immediately signed by Ed Sheeran's team after that one song.

@@RonBluu just finished the rest of this. glad to see you vibe so hard with all of it! thanks for sharing with us.
for me personally with how many tears, the reasons i resonate with it suck - but yebba has a way of communicating grief along with hope and even worship, and it makes it so much more than just a sad song yknow? that’s real art, to me

That Maschine that Yebba has in front of her has nothing to do with anything her voice does, no effects come out of that thing. It is simply for her to place everyone in the band at a certain spot in her in ear monitors and control the levels of what she is hearing around her. everything else Yebba does is purely herself.

Some singers sing with inside the Box and conform too or flow with the direction of the song, Yebba on the other hand sings outside the box with no music theory restrictions, but use other musical elements as visual and vocal structures to look over the land of typical music theory boxes.

If you notice everyone has one of those “boxes”, they control what the musicians are hearing in their inears. The musicians can adjust what they need to hear and hear the click if they are using one.

There's a difference between a technical trained singer that can fill in every note and a emotional cultured singer that can create a note that feels, and Yebba is that singer.

The machine is just her mix board for her in ear monitors.
