  • Hey friends!!
    In this video we’re talkin’ all about my fave meal… breakfast! Usually I am an overnight oat girlie but I’ve recently been making them in the Ninja Creami (obsessed!) and they’re SO good! We’ll also chat about what happens when you skip breakfast effect and benefits. In sum: the “positive” skip breakfast effects that some people claim don’t outweigh the negatives. I DO recommend eating breakfast even if it’s just something small.

    I really just prefer eating if im genuinely hungry. So, some mornings I have something for breakfast and other days I don't eat until lunch time. I feel I naturally IF. That's what nutrition is all about, very individual. Every day is different based on how we feel.

      I get you, Im always starving in the morning. I eat with my kids at 5pm, then thats usually it till breakast, so Im always ready for it! But if I eat dinner later when the kids are in bed, which happens occasionally if my husband and I want to have a 'date night' kind of meal, Im not really hungry in the morning. All depends on the day.

    I take meds for leukemia before bed and get nauseated if I don’t eat with them, so I’m not very hungry when I wake up. I grab coffee with cream and Greek yogurt every morning and then have an early filling lunch around 11, a filling supper at 5, and then a nice big bedtime snack. It works best for me. I’ve lost over 50 pounds in the last couple of years eating this way and feel like I have a healthy relationship with food for the first time in years.

    Thank you! I am right now at High school and I usually skip breakfast because I can get enough sleep that way because when I switch week from school and learning to the week of experience on the field as I am a baker I have to wake up at around 3:50 AM to wake up properly and get bus at 4:20 since it's further away and I feel sleep deprived that week as I have some weight up and just I think intentionally with my mind feel bad eating this early in the morning and then from 5:30 when I am at school I eat around 9:15 or around 9:45 based on where I am that day and lose the apetite genuinely not being hungry after even when my body tells me I'm hungry as I feel sick of the food like my stomach could just not digest that and results in me binging after or stress eating or just plain eating without reason mindlessly as I am eating without guilt at that moment but then regretting it after as I am punished for eating it when it is something I shouldn't eat like sweets and such theese types of snacks

    I don't like eating breakfast. When I was younger, breakfast even made me nauseous. I usually feel better about breakfast if I can wait an hour before eating it, but if I'm going somewhere in the morning, there won't be an hour from when I wake up to when I have to be out the door. And often there's anyway only maybe 3 hours until lunch. And if I sleep late, it just makes more sense to just eat lunch since it's almost lunch time (if not already lunch time) anyway.

    When I developed SEVERE hypoglycemia in 2010 (lasted almost 3 years after the endocrine blowout) although doctors initially felt my pancreas was the problem, I figured out it was my LIVER that was the problem. What had triggered the endocrine crash was a highly glycemic Thanksgiving dinner with way more wine that I normally drank. I woke up on Black Friday very, very ill...almost had to call 911. Anyway, I later found out that yes, the liver releases sugar into the blood to keep your blood sugar stable when it's needed...BUT...the liver can only do one thing at a time. It will default to filtering toxins (booze) out of your blood first and ignore your blood sugar. So that is what triggered my severe hypoglycemic attack that then caused me to struggle for 3 years. A bit of proof of my theory is that months later I tried to have one glass of wine. Mistake. I'm not kidding when I say that just a few SIPS of wine made me slurring my speech, staggeringly drunk in my living room. It should have been impossible, but it happened. I probably only ingested 3 tablespoons of wine!

    Hi Colleen! The work you do doesn’t go unnoticed and is SOO appreciated! From my own personal experience, you have taught me a lot about eating, hunger, body image, exercise, and the list goes on! However, I would really appreciate some advice. For several years now, I have been consistently taking stimulant medication for ADHD. Which then cause my body to not feel any hunger cues and reduce appetite almost entirely. The advice you give is AMAZING, but for people who might be in a similar situation like mine, following our hunger cues, appetite, and cravings are rarely an option.
    Is there anything that you would recommend that would allow for a more intuitive eating approach while not being able to feel hunger cues or having an appetite?

    • @ColleenChristensen
      @ColleenChristensen  Před 5 měsíci

      Ugh you're so sweet! It's totally normal to not feel hunger cues especially at the beginning of the process or perhaps when sick. This is when we use practical hunger- using our brains to guide us VS physical cues. We have a whole lesson on this in the app!

    • @Aaalllyyysssaaaaa
      @Aaalllyyysssaaaaa Před 4 měsíci +1

      I have the same issue! My meds make it so I don’t know I’m hungry until I’m crying and don’t know why lol. For me, here is what helps. Don’t use your intuition/hunger cues to decide whether to MAKE lunch, but once you’ve made it and it’s portioned out and on your plate and you’re sitting down and have taken one bite, then that’s when you start listening to your hunger cues. That way the executive functioning stuff is all out of the way. ADHD meds make your hunger a bit less, and it also gives you a executive functioning boost, so if you normally rely on being starving to motivate you to get food, it is going to be a whole different ballgame to make your food using your medication to help you self motivate. In my experience, even if I don’t have an appetite, once I start eating I can tell I needed it lol. And if it feels like too much food when you’re actually eating it, you can put it away for later and plan to make less next time. So you’re still listening to your hunger but you’re also turning down the volume on the executive issues that also might affect your eating. Also, if you’re like me, try to eat early, like have a big lunch and eat supper on the early side. Idk if you’re like me, but my gut says to restrict in the morning when I have willpower and my meds are helping me, but that just makes me overeat in the evening. If I eat more than the bare minimum early in the day, I still feel kind of stuffed by bedtime when my meds wear off, and I end up right on target for the right amount of food in a day.

    With me, I really struggle with eating breakfast during the week, as I'm just tired, and my body is slow to wake up. I usually only have about a hour to get up and ready for work, so I feel like I can't really take my time, and wait for those hunger cues to kick in. Plus, I gotta have my coffee in the mornings (one thing I look forward to each morning...that first sip, which I like to savor sometimes), and I know that caffiene often supresses my hunger as well.
    However, I do want to share something that I found that I absolutely love. Our local Aldi has this "indulgent" greek yogurt that is salted caramel flavored. OMG....why has this not been in my life before?!?!?! I have been absolutely loving it with cinnamon graham crackers and berries (would also be delicious with apples). I totally recommend giving that yogurt a try!

    • @ColleenChristensen
      @ColleenChristensen  Před 5 měsíci

      That yogurt sounds amazing! This is a great light breakfast to grab and go on busy mornings! If your hunger cues aren’t awake in the morning, try using a little “practical hunger” so you aren’t starving later. Something like yogurt, protein shake, or protein bar is good for when you aren’t super hungry. 🥰

    hey colleen i have a question. I like many other ppl dont feel hungry at all in mornings. for example today i woke up at 8 am and i wasn’t hungry until 2pm. For context my past time at school i would skip lunch and eat after school around 3pm for many months. Eventually my body got super used to it now i feel very uninterested in food in the mornings and afternoon (i graduated so no school now). However during lunch (4pm) and dinnertime i can eat A LOT of food, to the point where portion sizes are very big and unusual for a girl my age. Furthermore even when i do eat a big lunch and dinner i find that right before i try and fall asleep i suddenly get hungry and feel the need to go the kitchen and eat some more until im FULL full. like its my bodys way of “topping off” my stomach to the brim even though theres already a lot of food in my system. i feel like i cant sleep unless my stomach is totally full and its like a food induced coma is the only way i can fall asleep comfortably. Otherwise i cant sleep. anyways my point is should i force myself to eat breakfast from now on even if i dont feel like it as a way to re-program my body into eating 3 smaller meals a day instead of 2 meals + snacks and a late night feign?

    • @curlydaze1713
      @curlydaze1713 Před 5 měsíci

      i notice i feel like my body doesnt get hungry in the morning because i would eat so much food the night before. and I would eat sk much food the night before bc it helps me fall asleep. There were a few days where i forced myself to eat breakfast but then still i would get hungry late at night even though i had eaten 3 proper meals throughout the day. Idk but having a stuffed stomach helps me sleep so much better than just normally satiated. Is it a habit i just need to learn to break overtime?
