  • We ALWAYS have a bad Wi-Fi signal on our boat at our marina - or almost any marina we visit - making it tough to get on the Internet to stream on our TV, work from the boat or even use our phone. And where we boat, even a hotspot from our wireless service doesn't work. So getting this Wi-Fi range extender device has been a GAME CHANGER to get a better Wi-Fi connection on boats at a marina - and even sometimes out on the water near a marina (crazy how far it boosts the Wi-FI signal!). We’ll show you what we’re using, how we set it up & how it works for better Wi-Fi on our Sea Ray 410 Sundancer.

I have an extender and I need to try using it. The marina I dock in has a lot of signal but I have trouble getting a signal inside the cabin due to the large Carver next to me.

Yeah inside the cabin is the biggest issue - we’ve used other extenders but this one works amazingly well for us

it was super shocking when we realized we were still on the wi-fi out on the water!

The true test will be Fairlee Creek. Any plans on going anytime soon?

I think in a crowded situation the direct line to the marina wi-fi would be blocked plus we’d have to use marina wi-fi. haven’t been there recently, we’ve been visiting more town destinations 😊

@tlteal I was just there over the weekend and didn't look at my paperwork, I just kept trying to use the old password. No wonder I was struggling

I have been installing Marine Wifi repeaters for years on boats. This particular product is NOT the way to do it properly.
The proper way to do it is to install a marine wifi antenna connected to a router. Some applications will require an external antenna for incoming signal and a repeater antenna for connecting to onboard devices.
Also, you should mount the external antenna as high as possible, to prevent interference with the ground/water. (Note: the lower the frequency, the better the range and ability to go through obstacles)

we’re doing this DIY and it’s working well for us in our current setup - and likely would for other boaters like us, but sure, sounds like a bigger upgrade would be a pro install

@MyBoatLife I'm still talking about DIY stuff. Marine antennas are pretty simple to install.
I just installed a couple wifi antennas on a 40' express cruiser and the entire install only took about 4 hours, including router setup and customer education.

@@charlieodom9107 that’s cool & probably necessary if something more basic doesn’t work for someone, but this cost us $100 and we set it up in a few minutes without an install. We’re happy with how it’s performing for us

@MyBoatLife it will work, until the moisture and water destroy it. That device is not weatherproof in the least, so it is not a good idea to recommend one for marine applications.
You could have gotten an outdoor repeater for nearly the same price and been much better off, then add a better antenna later if you want.
For example, Ubiquiti offers outdoor rated repeaters that have the option for adding external antennas, so you can just buy the unit and add a better antenna later if you want. They start around 90 bucks.
