The Starhammer series feature the Vang as a dangerous ancient race, and I think they are admittedly a prime inspiration of the Flood in Halo. I happened to pick up one of the books decades ago, loved it, and the setting and technology is pretty close to Traveller (although the FTL drive.... isn't) Thank you both for a great interview!

The complete sci-fi RPG toolkit!
Around 13:35 you mention how there's a lot of nostalgia for the Golden Age, for 1105; I beg to disagree. There's just something _special_ about it, and it goes beyond something as simple as nostalgia, because consider the following:
I only started to get into Traveller in 2019. I didn't know peanuts about the Charted Space setting before then. But even so, 1105 is _by far_ my favourite time period for Traveller. When I first learnt of the Rebellion and the assassination of Strephon I was downright insulted, and that was in 2020!
So yes, while I'm certain there's a lot of nostalgia for it, I wouldn't be so fast to say that's all there is to it.
