I really wish you were still on TV, but the videos that you produce far supersede any survival, bushcraft, and prepping for urban and primitive living that has ever been on!!
I am glad to see this trapping series. I love all your videos. Remember to say or show how to set the earth anchor for new trappers. They may not know how. Keep up the good work.
I'm so glad to see you're still active. In the event that you get notified by comments, can you do a trapping series for those of us protecting chickens in neighborhoods?
Dave just a small tip brother if I may. When you dig where sod is use that tool to shave the sod away first and toss it to the side this way as you remove the dirt its only dirt and easy to push back in and sift. I have been doing it this way for 25 years and it makes the whole proses easier and faster. other then that Great work I like to see how others set up as with trapping you can never know to much anything that will put that animal in the trap is a +
that is why you put the backer up to make it come around, you can use a grass mound or pretty much anything...animals are like us and take path of least resistance, they'll walk around to look
Oops! I wrote my comment while watching the video, rather than waiting until the end, where you spoke about that. Thank you, and keep up the great work!
It's quite a coincidence that you start this series after I got my commercial nuisance animal permit. Seems after all these years I'm still following right along with you.
I'm going to try making a burnt wood set a few times in different locations and see what results I get. Looks like it would be highly effective due to animal curiosity as much as anything else. Thanks for the great videos you provide.
I'd love to see a map of your land showing all the different spots you've featured on your videos. Like the caves, ridges and whatnot. I know you want to keep it private but a simple sketch would be handy to visualize the layout. You seem to have so many diverse areas it's like a personal paradise... something I hope to own some day.
Yep I agree with u Dave foot placement is the name of the game with these sets i take a stick and lay it down a few inches away from the trap thinking the animal will step over it and on to the pan
I used to trap all the time when I was in my teens. Konibears, 1 1/2 leg traps, etc...I still have several around and it might benefit me to have a few extras in case I need to eat. Good video.Just subbed.
nice set but you are packing dirt over the levers. A second consideration is that is a flat set which should look undisturbed especially in sod. You are building that set like a dirt hole. Alot of canines such as coyotes and fox will pee on the backside of that burnt chunk of wood so I would put a second trap on the backside of the burnt chunk of wood.
That set looks a little too tight quarters from here. I wonder why a coyote would get that close to the burnt wood. Seems he'd be able to sniff around without getting close enough to put his foot on the pan. It'll be interesting to see if this set produces anything.
Dave, do you and other trappers typically set some kind of marker or "flag" that alerts humans that there's a trap around? I wonder this myself, when walking through the woods... Wouldn't want to step into a serious trap. Great series... Thank you!
Dave I have a couple of questions. What is keeping the animal from approaching the back side of the burnt set, and I was also wondering if you could use cloth or other material for the pan cover?
This looks great Dave, this series is looking real good so far! Seems like your time at the trapper's college, did you real good. I personally don't know a lot about trapping... Take care man Rasmus.
Do they step that close to what they smell? I would think that the foot would be farther away from target of smell, then lean the snout in to sniff. But i didnt go to trapping school :P
i was wondering about the the urine your using,do you water it down? and how long can it be stored for ? and if it can be stored for long term ,example from season to season, whats the best way to do that
You'd dispatch your neighbors dog? You must be a sociopath. Dogs do get loose even from the best owners. I am unsubscribing. Anyone that would knowingly kill someone's pet is less than human.

The BLT line was fantastic. I don't think I'll be forgetting that.

Awesome, never thought of using burnt wood for a visual attractant.

Thank you Dave.

Why are you touching the trap with bare hands?
Dave, do you and other trappers typically set some kind of marker or "flag" that alerts humans that there's a trap around? I wonder this myself, when walking through the woods... Wouldn't want to step into a serious trap. Great series... Thank you!

Sportin' the M6. I'm jealous.

Right on Dave
Is there an acceptable substitute for the silicone sheet that's placed over the pan?
you can release a non-target animal from a trap...the key word being...NON-TARGET...just a thought.
What if you get heavy rain after u set the trap.. will the rain cause the trap to go off if hit correctly ?
Why dye the trap if your going to cover it up completly?
Thx for the response, love the vids
was your digging tool bought or made? looks perfect for all trappers!
i was wondering about the the urine your using,do you water it down? and how long can it be stored for ? and if it can be stored for long term ,example from season to season, whats the best way to do that
Do you cut the earth anchor off the trap or do you pull or dig it up it up?
HAND GESTURES!
dave, how do you kill a cayote, if you catch one? shoot him or what practice is used in this case?
seems like the trap is too close, im not an experienced trapper but i just dont see a coyote putting his paw that close when he smells something.
If you listen to what he said, he doesn't expect pets. He also said, if you're catching pets, you're in the wrong place.
You won't be missed!
were do you get those cool hats?
How dud u get fox urine in a bottle?!?!
How much did it cost you?
is that what u used for the 2 fox u caught hahaha
You can buy it.
back 9" offset 3"
typical offset is back 9 right 3 inch...
What if the animal comes from the wrong direction?

Takes place. As for urine, lure, and baits - store in a dark cold place, a rule of thumb is - the older the better. Remember, KISS.
Hey Dave was wondering, Do you ever buy gear from F and T Fur Harvesters Trading Post? If not, check em out brother! They're awesome!
South Paws Unite!
"coyote poop is great stuff"
In the beginning of the video I saw a gun next to his pack.
hey im left handed

Ehhhh...
I dont think his neighbor has a WILD dog as a pet... Please listen to what is said in a video before you make ignorant comments in the future
your loss man, you obviously dont understand, if you were in dave's shoes you would
