  • Built this Rubber powered balsa model of a Sopwith camel based on the colours of Arthur Roy Brown the chap who was credited with shooting down the Red Baron(though recent re looks would suggest that the Red Baron was shot down by a Machine gunner from Australia)
Its made from a kit made by from The Vintage Model company and this short video is of its trimming session and first powered flights.
Starting From a glide We added more and more winds, whilst slowly tweaking things like the nose weight and rudder until a reasonably predictable flight pattern was established
    Wingspan 16"
Rubber 16" loop of 3/16" FAI sports tan rubber (came in the kit )
Total weight 38 grams (6 grams of that is lead to balance the plane)
For anyone who is interested in making one of these, this is the kit I used. Plus a few sheets of different coloured domestic tissue to copy the plane flown by Arthur Roy Browns
