Suriyan is a Tamil word which refers to Sun. It is a term properly evolved out of Tamil roots only.
Suriyan ( சூரியன்) of Tamil was corrupted as Surya in other languages.
It is a combination of two Tamil terms Soodu + Iyan. (சூடியன் > சூரியன்).
Sudu / Sur / Sul : means Heat - the quality of being hot; high temperature.
Sudu/ Soodu ( சுடு/ சூடு) = to heat ; to burn.
Iyan : means nature - the basic or inherent features, character, or qualities of something. ( இயல் / இயல்பு / இயன்மை).
So literally Suriyan refers to - the thing which is intensively hot like fire - in its basic characteristics, the Sun.
The origin of pallavas has been debated by scholars but has been accepted widely by scholars that they originated fron the north of penna river now Andhra pradesh. Again just becuase you find similarities between the mauryas and pallavas doesnt mean they originated from the north.
Khmer kings had Pallava lineage and Pallavas who are Tamils did bulid that temple under the supervision of the Chozhas, with the help of the indegenous people. To build a Hindu temple when did cambodians have a Hindu past or when did cambodians speak sanskrit or prakrit or Tamil or use them as their governing languages???

This is also characteristic of the chola empire (Rajendra chola II built Gangai konda cholapuram to celebrate his victory over the Ganges country). It is a fusion of Chola and Khmer architecture.
