The largest Hindu temple in North America is now in Cary.
Crowds gathered to celebrate the tower’s completion on Monday, a historic day when the Indian community celebrates Diwali, a holiday known as the Festival of Lights.
Gov. Roy Cooper and House Speaker Tim Moore were there for the unveiling.
The multi-million dollar development showcases the growth of the Indian community in the Triangle for years to come.
One member of the temple told WRAL News the idea to expand the temple started out as just that, but it quickly grew into what was unveiled Monday.
The gateway tower at the Sri Venkateswara Temple of North Carolina stands at 87 feet. The temple is located at 121 Balaji Place, off Chapel Hill Road near Morrisville and Park West Village.
Crews broke ground in 2020, carefully crafting each tower to tell a story of Indian mythology.

The largest Hindu temple in the US will be in BAPS temple in NJ. In fact, that will be the largest one in the world once it is complete. It will be bigger than Angkor Wat temple.
It is always a challenge to honor the beautiful aspects of a culture without affirming the destructive features which led its members to emigrate.
Having been in India I have seen the unhappy results of Hinduism there. Indian friends in California see caste discrimination infiltrating there - yes in America! They are begging for laws to stop it.
In short, I love Indian food, clothing, color-courage, and Indo-Islamic architecture.
But being Christian, which teaches that all people are equal, I cannot honor a religion which has caste as its very root, and has allowed, not to say encouraged, widow-burning, child-trafficking at temples, and ostracization of child brides marred to old men who died.

This video is about Hindu temple but you have a cult mentality so you are here to convert some Hindus into Christianity. You don't have friends in India rather you have Christian missionary connections in India and you went there to distribute rice bags on a monthly basis to all those poor families who will convert to Christianity and visit the church every Sunday. The most peaceful religion, the most vegetarian religion, the free-est religion that gives you the freedom to worship anything you want and doesn't brand anyone as infidel. You are right. I have nothing against Indians and I celebrate their culture. But to be so religious as a people they too are somewhat racist towards brown or dark skinned Indians.
The black color is considered auspicious at certain occasions in Hinduism. Lord Vishnu and His incarnation Lord Krishna are black deities and you will find Their idols are usually up of black stone especially in southern Indian states. In north Indian states' temples, Their idols are made up of white marble. It is primarily because the religious texts that prescribe idol making followed by the two regions are different. I don't particularly know the reason of this difference, my guess is the black granite is not available in north Indian states focing the people to use white marble which is abundantly available.
@@tushargoyal554 I don’t belief that. I think the reason they are White in that region is because of the once strong Colonialism enforced from British Europeans. It was so deeply entrenched within Indians that anything White is superior and better.
