      Thanks a million for the very educative video. Communication and instructions to the patient is particularly awesome. However, I noticed that Buerger's test was not done. Shouldn't it be part of this examination? Thanks 👍🏿

    Thank you for all the amazing videos GeekyMedics! I wanted to ask whether we also test soft touch/pinprick in diabetic foot considering they could have peripheral neuropathy? And if we are assessing it, are we following the dermatomal distribution from distal to proximal or using different points?
    Thank you!

    • @geekymedics
      @geekymedics  Před 2 lety +5

      Yes that would be somehting to do if there were abnormalities picked up on the initial screen (i.e. light touch sensation) - the diabetic foot examination is intended as a screen and further more comprehensive assessment should always follow if abnormalities are detected.
      You would usually assess distal to proximal given that diabetes typically causes peripheral neuropathy.

    • @larrypotterTMB
      @larrypotterTMB Před 2 lety

      Thank you for the reply! But is the sensation tested within the dermatomes or differently?

    • @geekymedics
      @geekymedics  Před 2 lety +7

      When assessing for peripheral neuropathy, you assess for glove and stocking sensory loss (i.e. beginning at the most distal aspect of the limb and moving proximally), rather than dermatomal assessment

      @@larrypotterTMB the dermatoems doesn't really matter coz they correlate to nerve root/spinal cord level not peripheral
