Well done America, you did it! The biggest turnout in your history. Now the hard work of restoring a country which you can be proud to hand on to your children begins, we are rooting for you.
Thank you for showing up for your kids. In 2016, you let us down. You stole my childhood. I was only 13, and overnight, I became a politically-obsessed child. My education was politicized. My gender was politicized. After spending my mostly formative years under a stable administration where the adults took care of adult things, my world was turned upside down. This time you didn’t screw it up. I’ll never get the last four years back, but there is a new generation of kids who won’t have to live through what I and so many others did. Thank you.
This is so gorgeous that it gives me chills. How beautiful that Lin-Manuel Miranda chose to post this on Election Day. It reminds us of the twin values of family and country. In “My Theodosia,“ Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton sing to their first-borns of their love for the children and for America. Both are then in their infancy. “You’ll grow up with our young nation.“ By voting, we honor the commitment of and sacrifices made by our Founding Fathers and countless American patriots since then. Our responsibility to them and to our children is to make our nation the shining beacon of hope and opportunity that the Founding Fathers intended it to be.
