I think Doomfist's was outsourced.
Doomfist's origin story was both animated and a short, but when people refer to the "Overwatch Animated Shorts," they refer to a very specific series of 3D animated shorts.
Fun fact: Blizzard's animation department should get into the movie business. They're legit enough to do it, not to mention _do it right._
It's actually a spot on mainland Chinese accent. In fact, I think the voice actress actually isn't fluent in English, and as such the accent is very genuine.
Yes. She is actually not very good at speaking english, so this short film was very difficult for her to do.. (i have spoken with her before)

Do you hear that? It sounds like Death Battle beckoning Blind Wave to return. Its saying "Blind Wave, watch me...specifically the Voltron vs. Power Ranger battle. And then divi-up those slap bets." - totally Death Battle.

Just to clear a bit of the info the short doesn't show, Mei is a climatologist and was doing research about some anomalies in the atmosphere. I don't think its established what the others were researching, but their gear still was capturing their data.
Also, they where part of Overwatch too. They had a division of scientists doing research as well as the soldiers and fighters. This was a team that unfortunately ended up being left behind.

Actually no. Good number of their characters are not voiced by actors from their respective countries. That detail is just a bunch of bull internet people made up.
Not from their respective countries, but they did get people of the same or "similar" ethnicities(Symmetra's voice actor is an American of Indian descent, for example, and Hanzo's voice actor is an American of Japanese descent.)

Junkrat and road hog have a mini short, it has a different look, but it is oficial Blizzard and u guys should watch it.
It was planned as a new MMO, called titan, to follow up World of Warcraft, but in a completely different universe.
The project failed, but they already had alot of lore and backstory. It turned into a shooter and they are releasing these shorts as backstory.
I'm dying to see their reaction to Wan. Release the reaction guys

To resume the Lore of Overwatch in broad strokes :
Evil robots (Omnics) try to wipe out humanity after they rebelled. Governements of the world couldn't keep up with the adaptability of these Omnics so they launched a international task force to lead the fight against them.
Task force (composed of Soldier 76 / Jack Morisson, Reaper / Gabriel Reyes, Ana, Reinhardt, Torbjorn) won the war and was the basis for the organization known as Overwatch who kept the peace in the world.
Jack Morisson was asked to be the leader of Overwatch and to be in the spotlight, while Gabriel Reyes was asked to stay in the shadows and gived command of Blackwatch, the secret black ops side of Overwatch.
Years passed, and people began to question the legitimate reason for Overwatch still being there when it proved inefective in keeping the terrorist organization "Talon" in check.
Then, shit started to hit the fan when one of the leader of Overwatch, Gerard Lacroix, was murdered and his wife pressumed missing (in reality, his wife, Amélie Lacroix aka Widowmaker was brainwashed by Talon to kill her husband after a kidnapping and weeks of torture and mental conditionning).
Then, Ana Amari (number two of Overwatch) was presumed KIA after a mission against Talon.
Fearing the impact of seing such heroes being killed in the line of duty, Reinhardt (the guy who was kind of the heart and moral compass of the original task force) was asked to resign.
Then, files about Blackwatch were released to the public, detailling torture, assasinations plots, unlawful emprisonnement, etc. People started to call for Overwatch to be disbanded.
And, the final nail in the coffin was a fight between Jack Morisson and Gabriel Reyes in the Switzerland HQ of Overwatch. Why ? Because Gabriel (Reaper) was jealous of the fact that Morisson (Soldier 76) was considered to be the hero while he was still considered as a nobody.
During the fight, the HQ explodes. Officialy, the two are dead. And after that last demonstration, Overwatch was disbanded.
The data was about weather, as far as I know. Extreme weather patterns they studied in the arctic. And saving millions of live by knowing more about the weather is scaringly topical right now...

Winston's message triggered the activation of Mai's cryopod. If they had not received his message, the facility's last battery would have depleted and Mai would have died like everyone else. Good timing on Winston's part.

Blizzard makes theses Overwatch animated shorts themselves. Any cinematic like this from Blizzard is made in house.

Yeah, pretty much how I felt upon first seeing this one. I don't play Overwatch because my internet is crap, but I love these shorts. This one, in particular, is pretty harsh on the ol' emotions.

How do you know they missed it?
Well 1) The reaction is not there. 2) It came out before this. 3) I've seen many other channels miss it at least temporarily, due to how much shorter than usual it was. I'm sure BW will get to it eventually, with the amount of people commenting about it.

They were researching the anomaly that is effecting the climate. She has nine years worth of continuous readings on the anomaly and all the attendant research work her team was doing.
Yes, Snowball just need a new battery but when you are in her situation. You don't know that you will surivive this because you are alone in Antatica. Snowball was her last friend that she got at that situation.

According to lore overwatch had Ecopoint bases all over the world where they looked at the effects of climate change. Mei is a climate expert who was assigned to Ecopoint Antartica.
