  • The Volvo 1800 ES was only produced for two model years - 1972/3 and only 8077 cars were manufactured, fewer than 1000 of which were imported into Britain. Although the model is called an 1800 these cars featured a version of the 2000 cc five bearing engine which had proved its reliability in the Volvo Amazon. Power output was increased to 130 BHP by the use of a higher compression ratio, larger valves, a modified camshaft and Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection. This particular example has the reliable Borg Warner type 35 automatic transmission providing effortless cruising which suits the GT style of the car very well. The model was marketed as a sport wagon or sports estate aimed at young couples with an active lifestyle. The load area is often shown in period advertisements with outdoor leisure equipment.
This particularly outstanding show quality example was originally supplied by Lex Brooklands of Leeds on the 13th of June 1973. We have a copy of the original specification sheet from Volvo Heritage. The car is well known in club circles having been restored by a well-known Volvo Owners Club member from Hull. We have a photographic record of a comprehensive bare-shell rebuild which took place over two years in his ownership. Following restoration we are told the car received a second place in the Volvo Owners Club national concours . The condition of the car throughout is truly fabulous and given that the restoration is now around 20 years old, the quality of the work speaks for itself. The Volvo was finished in its original Blue Green metallic paint work with new light tan leather upholstery, a most attractive colour and trim combination. The paintwork and all brightwork gleams and the engine bay is beautifully detailed. The restoration of the interior is equally impressive with a top notch re-trim using high quality leather and carpeting. On the road the car has a supple ride for long distance cruising. Engine, transmission and brakes all work flawlessly. This really is a gem for the serious collector and for sale at a fraction of today's cost for such a stunning restoration.
In addition to the photographic restoration record, the car comes with an original owner's handbook, 20 years of MOT history and a series of diaries documenting its use with the last private owner who acquired the Volvo in 2007.

I am in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. and have just been made aware of a 1973 P1800ES with 18,000 miles. Have yet to see it but it will be a most interesting visit. The late owner is said to be an eccentric hoarder from a prominent family.

This one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Automatic transmission is also rare. Thanks for a great professional video.

the mirrors out on the fenders is totally useless and stupid. You can't see anything because the mirror is too far away.
Beautiful car though. I have a 74 1800ES myself in burgundy
