You are so right. The DS sat on the hood of a Humvee and we got to slog up the hill, feet sideways, leaning over so much I swore the road would touch my nose. LOL!!! It made me a better person though. After I left the Army, I went to college to earn both a B.A. and M.A., and today I'm a foreign language teacher (German). I would never have had the discipline without my experiences at Fort Knox in Basic Training.

Went to Basic Training here at Ft Knox right before Desert Storm; Jan 23, 1991 through March 23, 1991. Was one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. Went on to Ft Sam for Combat Medic Training and Ascertained a Physical Fitness Excellence Award. Only patch you could put on your PT Uniform. I will always remember that brief time in my life. I came out of there ready to conquer the world. Thank you Ft. Knox and to all who served there.

I just watched this now, so funny. So good.
I remember my first BT really well. September 1986, Ft. Sill OK,.
Reception was EPIC. I remember the Mess Hall was the best I've eaten at before or since. They were cooking steaks-to-order on the flat-top every meal. I didn't have the nuts to grab one day one, second day I asked if I could. They said "Sure, how do you want that cooked?", I couldn't believe it. So I had a medium-rare NY strip and fries for dinner.
After that, I was shining my boots and being generally happy that we were basically done for the day.
I figured I should do some push-ups or something... because really we hadn't done shit that day. Guys were still coming in for our BT class, of course I didn't know shit.
I was thinking if this is really what the Army is like, I'm re-enlisting for 20!

But i also remember another guy who had glasses but i think he came in week 4 or 5. Its been so long i cant remember. We started with dotson and a puerto rican drill but the PR left and then it was dotson and rivers. Mendez was 3rd platoon with young white guy but was sgt first class.
