- Nick Perri of Dorothy and The Underground Thieves recently stopped by the Gibson Showroom in Los Angeles, CA to demo the brand new 60th Anniversary Les Paul Standard 1959 Custom.
No specific Gibson model carries more intrigue and gravitas than the 1959 Les Paul Standard. While it became the most iconic guitar in history, it wasn't a successful model when it was released (under 650 were made). But before long it was adopted by some of the world's greatest guitarists -- Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Mike Bloomfield, Billy Gibbons, Joe Perry and Slash to name a few.
All these reasons and more made the 1959 Les Paul Standard the most coveted and legendary guitar on the planet, shaping sounds across music genres and generations of players. Gibson Custom Shop's 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard is not just a tribute to those priceless original models -- it's a clone of them.
From laser-scanned dimensions to chemically-recreated plastics to color-matched shades of sunburst, every element has been rendered in unbelievable detail. It represents the culmination of decades of work by Custom Shop's expert team -- a tireless quest to bring accuracy and authenticity to the hands of fans. It’s the definition of cool, and it's the best representation of the 1959 Les Paul Standard since the Gibson Custom Shop began making Historic Reissues over twenty-five years ago.

When I was a kid I always thought I’d never be able to afford a Les Paul. Now that I’m grown up, I’ve realized that I was right, I can’t.
Haha yup
Or spend half the money on another brand and get a better guitar that will stay in tune.
just get a gear card from guitarcenter lol
For 29.9 APR GUITAR CENTER OR SWEETWATER WILL SELL YOU ONE WITH NEVERENDING LOW MONTHLY PAYMENTS....... update 9-13 just got a 60s standard at GC ... and yes i opened up an account... lol.. but I'll pay it off before the 6 month no interest will end.
Hey, just bought a standard 60s bourbon burst that is very light but that's OK cause i thought it was iced tea when got it down he said no its a bourbon, and we were both like man that's light but looks great, sounds great too, i didn't finance the whole thing, for some reason they only approved me for 600 which is strange because I've got a good credit score and make pretty good money, so i put it on my credit card but did get the 600 on their card anyway it will be paid before the 6 month no interest ends, actually next week, figure why not since they give you bonus bucks back on some stuff and will build my credit with them, never know when that custom shop bug will bite !!!
Great sounds, cool and authentic looks and a seems as a worth rendition of an iconic guitar! Cannot wait to get my hands on one of those in Germany...
Nick's rigs on Instagram sound incredible. Please use that awesome JTM-45!
1959 was my favorite year for Chevys and Gibsons! Great review. Now if Chevy would just re-issue the El Camino......
Get Jimmy page on. 😎
why??
Holy fuck... That tone. AMAZING!!
amaziiing job.
great guitar, glad Gibson is going back to it roots.... still prefer the SG over them all!
Very cool man
Does the poncho come with the guitar?
Or is there a Guitar/Poncho bundle?
Guitar comes with poncho
Guys please help me out at 02:50 what is that little tune he is playing in the background???
Andy Slinn I believe it’s the second track on the first Underground Thieves EP.
Nick is a kick ass player, best live.
🤦🏽♂️
Oh yum. I have one on order, and it's a lefty! Another month or so before it gets delivered and I think about it every day!
have a 2002 SG un potted just taped pickups , real strong ..
Cool. They look awesome. Nick rocks.
Seems like a really good down to earth dude.
Silvertide!!!
Ok now i gotta check the band out nice axe , did not know that about unpotted pick ups thats a revelaton
I'll buy this guitar by the time I'm 60. I'm 32 now, I'll let you all know how it turns out.
Cool
I love my 59 standard historic and even the non musicians that hear it love it too, one of my friends said he'd love to hear it through his amp....he's got a line 6 (he's banned from even looking at my guitars)
that's a little snobby but ok🤷♂️
Line6 lol...ban that joker
Anyone know what riff he’s playing the background at 2:50 onwards?
Evan Reeves Sounds like a variation of The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin, a beautiful masterpiece.
Graveyard Moon by The Underground Thieves. They have a full album coming out this year. Great band!
I'll ask again... Does anyone know what kind of effect pedal he is using???
Joseph Monaco Check out his Instagram he switches it up but always talks about what pedals he’s using
Probably a fuzz or a cranked low power tweed/jtm45 style amp...or both.
He has his own episode of “Rig Rundown” now. Check it out on youtube.
Hell yes Nick !!!
Little bit more focused than OG paf's. Alnico 3 is it though. My collector's choice is the same way... I actually prefer it, sonically.
Gibson IS BACK FOLKS!
Is Gibson finally back on track?
irmasil3 Lets wait untill we (public) get our hands on them... I wished it was all true of course.
@@ivanrohal7489 Tell me about it...its been around 20 years of disappointment altogether, but I think the last 6-10 years were really really really bad...and the prices were really, really, really mad.
whats the burst called
orange sunset fade
I own one of these Gibson 59 60th Anniversary guitars in Cherry Teaburst... its better than any guitar you have in your Mom’s basement ... well worth the price.
I agree
How many 59 kind are there..jesus evey mornig when i wake up theres a new one..
But hey as long people consider it as collectable value stuff..til the market is overflood lol
For some reason Gibson has been trying to recreate it every year. Each year they make a change and get closer to the original. Why Gibson is is so had to make a clone of an original 59?
God himself has his own 59
😂😂😂😂👌
what amp is he using???
Marshall origin 5c with 8" speaker
No one fucks with a poncho harder than Nick Perri!!!
The Poncho tho!
Wow mud city
where? he's using fuzz, the tone is crispy and clear
They built in little 35 pieces series, not one by another.
What a great guy!
Did he get one?
Gibson has had a rough time they are my favourite guitars still.
I like fenders now 2
Just bought an acoustic Hummingbird.
I am going to buy a les paul or les paul custom as my next buy.
It sounds similar to Greco custom style and its a lot cheaper. I still find that to me my fav sound is the custom LP with dimarzio superdistortion.
@@andreasleonlandgren3092 Ace Frehley
THIS guy can PLAY!
fizzy
All the rockers say the same bull shit ..i heard this n that me too n i never got that feeling god damn..
Wow.... That's the golden drive tone you will bleed for fool
why is everyone beeing fooled, this guitar is not to the original specs the top carve is incorrect.
If the originals were handmade and all were slightly different. Then that means that there is no one correct way of carving the top. Genius.
Fuzz though....?
I HAVE TONS OF GUITARS AND ALL MY LES PAULS NEWER AND VINTAGE SOUND ALMOST THE SAME PERIOD.
You need to have your ears checked. All my LPs (Standard, Traditional, HP, Reissue) sound different.
@@STF_YVR yes but only you will know the difference most music lovers don't know or could care less, cheers.
I have 2 of these and they're most definitely not clones.
Gibson is good Greco is good its all good everyone can join in life imitation is flattery.
When i grew up having a guitar was like having rocket to go the moon ..it would never happen hard days for sure..
But gotta spend at least 8,000 dollars for it right lol
Lil' Wayne's guitar teacher if I won the lottery I’ll buy it
I paid 3,250 for mine . Got it on reverb
@@Bigmike3406E What did you do, put that much on your credit card online?
This guy stole my horse
That guitar can sound much better then whats shown here. Whatever is going on with the amp he is playing through or his set up makes it sound like he’s playing through a blown speaker.
Observing Humanity rolled off tone knob...
and a fuzz face
Fuzz
That’s 60s for you bitch!
@@fajriarmansya5541 Nah this just sounds like shit.
Who is this guy? Never heard of him.
He looks like Dickey Betts and Stevie Ray Vaughan had a baby. Nice chops!
Not!
James Patrick Page
It will be real in 60 years. Can't duplicate that aged wood.
Thats a nice guitar. I wonder if in 50-60 years if itll be worth $$$$$$$$$ like the orginals
What is this dude wearing
Ray Cruz it’s a cape.
Ray Cruz (Guitar)Heroes always wear capes.
Nick plays like was born 30 years too late!
50 actually!
omg how many pesos we talking?? $$$
It's going to be reassuringly expensive :)
Tim Lilly i just confirmed from Sweetwater, it’s 6499$.
@@RockAndBlues7 what.
@@RockAndBlues7 but shit it sounds and looks amazing! gonna sell every guitar I have....then just borrow like 5k
SUGAR LIFE it sure does sound amazing but 6.5k??? Not for me, my 1600$ Clapton Stratocaster sounds amazing too and people says that it’s too expensive but if you wanna get any new les paul then get standard 50’s or 60’s.
That could be any electric guitar with that velcro fuzz sound, can’t hear the tone of the guitar at all really. Just one time I’d love to see a demo of one of these that’s clean rhythm playing or melody. It’s always high gain noodling
Where's Mike Agnesi.
all these fake comments aren't fooling anyone Gibson.
Ok he plays the whole video in a fuzz pedal and talks all along. Not the most convincing video about this amazing guitar.
His amp sounds like a matchbox....plug that thing into a Marshall half stack!
" And .... and .... and when I quit school I didn't know ..... Angus was actually playing .... a SG .... DAH !!!! , so I'm still wonder how to get ..... that R'n'R .... tone or whatever to sound like Angus ..... DAH! "
This kid was born in 1984. What the fuck does he know about it really?!
Shit!
I know...What does Angus and Highway to Hell have to do with his sound????? LMAO.. I like the tone but it's not running
straight through the amp. He's using some kind of boost and fuzz...
Joseph Monaco rolled off tone knob. Every 50s lp comes with sort of fuzz effect... Crazy. Clapton used that a lot.
Is anyone on any review of this guitar going to say its shite! Like visiting a fortune teller and she tells you, your fucked dude, your life is shite. Would you visit her again!
😕 fart noises
If you want to know why rock is dead just look at this guy.
@@Zak-ky8gc Now I can understand someone like Viking man Zakk Wylde with a signature LP but to some of these guys I`ve never heard of even for Epiphones too like Jared James Nichols with some black single pickup guitar.
who the hell is this goof?
MusicFan 15 CMON MAN YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THAT SHIRT WAS HIDEOUS.
@MusicFan 15 I'm 22 and have no interest in marketing a shamelessly overpriced guitar for a bankrupt greedy company which targets the 0.0001 percent of guitar players that have 3-10k just lying around
Get a grip Gibson no one want's signature models that are the price equivalent of my 4 month salary
No wonder there is less and less bands and players no one can afford this stuff
@Ronnie Jackson A good tube amp costs even more than this guitar
And besides if this is something that is affordable to you than you don't have the slightest clue how hard it is for the other 90% of people in this world that don't have that kind of money
I had to save up a 3 month pay just to buy a mid tier amp and a les paul studio which is the shittier low effort guitar from gibson
@@azaz321able A good tube amp costs more than $6,500?
@@wartimemodels Ok I thought this guitar was 4k but this is even more ridiculous.
But still I don't know what you consider a good amp but for example a good Marshall Plexi ranges anywhere between 3k up to 10k
And that is only the head you still have to buy a cabinet
The sound is terrible. What's wrong with his amp. 😟
Way too much testosterone makes this just annoying
way much muddy tone.
he probably rolled back the tone... like clapton
kuringmundo sounds like fuzz face which does not like humbuckers
tolga şişko iyi dedin giral
That's not muddy to me. It's sounds nice and Velvety because those Custombucker Alnico III have a nice breathable sound to them.
They are unpotted pickups like the PAF's. He is probably using an effects pedal, but the idiots don't show or tell us that ahead of time.
Cool guitar and sound weirdass player I never heard of and the guitar is a bit expensive for a reissue. $6,500 - $7,000ish?
Ouch!
