Grüße gehen raus nach Nutzlos. Wie ist das Wetter so bei euch?
Google "Nutzlos" on Google Maps. There is one result for a "closed" boxing club near Frankfurt. Pretty much corresponding to the Autobahn in the clip. 😂
Not even a minute in and already enjoying this. Let's see what's up in Nutzlos. 😂
Nutzlos just started a partnership with the town of Useless in the UK.

@@CDP1861 There is actually people living in _"Useless Loop"_ in Western Australia. And in this little town they of course also got the "Useless Harbour", blocked by a large sandbar back in the times when it was named ... 😂
This video is very old. Meanwhile the motorway is already opened across Buxtehude and ends in Neu Wulmstorf. People drive in both directions from the new end point. The last section up to the Autobahn 7 is now under construction.
Yes, although I want to add that one of the exits between Horneburg and Neu Wulmstorf is still unusable, because someone went to court over the possible traffic burden when opened and the judge actually ruled in his favor! So it is all set, but the exit is closed until the A26 is connected to the A7. The City of Hamburg is pretty sure they will manage to open the autobahn next year.
Yes so ein Besserwisser hat mir das auch unter die Nase reiben müssen.
But last time I used it, the exit in Buxtehude was still closed, because people in Buxtehude don't like the traffic going through their streets

Overthinking is Germnays biggest problem xD
Yeah and If you are German and depressed...Imagine it!
I'm not sure that's really overthinking. Of course the video made the people opposing the highway exit look ridiculous and like they were indeed just overthinking or being pedantic about it. But if you think about it they may have a point or two.
@@Oma_Wetterwachs do you feel your German environment contributes to your depression by constantly overthinking everything? I have an anxiety disorder probably mixed with a bit of depression and I feel like no German who's mentally well enough overthinks stuff as much as I do.😅
@@Oma_Wetterwachs sorry, i didn't have time to answer. I'm sorry you have all these diagnoses and hope you'll find whatever helps best (if you didn't already find it).
I don't consider myself "typically German", either. But then again, who even fully lives up to any clichee? Stereotypes and clichees are often nothing more than just that. On the other hand, maybe we do have some traits we aren't even aware of, that might make others say "that's so German". Who knows...
@@stef987 I think they do have a point, but imo this would be a prime example for holding a referendum in the affected area's. On big decisions i'm not a fan, but on this stuff the people know roughly what each decision means.
Yes, the subtitles say "York", which is a city in the UK, while the town's name in the video is actually "Jork". The pronounciation is pretty much the same, at least for German ears. And obviously also for the automatic translation.
I would say I have German Hands, too.
But this Joke would be too flat, also for me, I decide. (I Love my NRW Realschul-English...)

There is another problem with the closed road. The road surface will crack when there is no traffic on it, because asphalt needs continuous mechanical stress to avoid cracking. We know this problem from sidewalks. If the road is to be opened in five years, it will already be in need of renovation.

But you must admit - it sounds kind of cute (ok or like a strange offense)
I laughed about the subtitles for "people in Mittenkirchen" - people with the churches. Because "mit den Kirchen" would mean just that. I also like the town of Nuts loose. Maybe they lost their nuts.

Idk if someone told you this before, but it would be nice if you had a native speaker around cause he could tell you stuff like "nutzlos" means "useless". Also "Ausfahrt" on each German Autobahn isn't a place to live, it's the exit. But these little things make me laugh a bit 😅

Well actually Germany appears to be an Autobahn museum sometimes. In my area there were bridges built for the Autobahn waiting for about ten years for the actual Autobahn to be built.
But you have to understand, they have to do the burocrazy stuff at First. We have a big Beamtenmangel in Germany.
Is Like the nurse Mangel, the teacher Mangel, the Kita Mangel, or The Bus Driver Mangel.
You know, germans seems to love Mangelzustände. Our goverment will Not Accept this, because I don't See a Mangel of Politicians.
Not far from where i live is an autobahn, that is closed for traffic, but used for movies and tv shows. It was closed, because an coal mine deliberatly destroyed parts of it.
Referring in the case of "useless" to "loose nuts" does make more sense than I would have thought....
Like: "Du hast doch nichmehr alle Hoden im Sack" - when someone is incapable of finishing "something". 😆
7:14 that's the point. the Autobahn is not yet complete, only the section up to Jork. Those guys in Mittelkirchen had to live with the traffic for years already, so what's another 5 years until the section to Buxtehude is completed?
The decision not to open the one direction towards Jork might suck for Mittelkirchen but it's not as unreasonable as Extra3 wants to make it look.
They're never overthinking. They are definitely not thinking enough.
You should watch an episode of "Verstehen sie Spass"

Oh ja, eine komplette Folge ohne Schnitt bitte! Verstehen Sie Spaß geht eh schon immer stundenlang, wie lang dann wohl sein Video werden würde? Einen halben Tag vielleicht? 😂
Actually you can not build the whole Autobahn in one piece, but only part after part. So it is totaly normal a new build Autobahn temporaryly ends at points where the net of other streets wouldn't be able to handle the traffic coming from and going to the Autobahns temporarily end - and so the Autobahn isn't allowed to be fully opened for public yet. Thats pretty normal. However, the problematic part isn't the Autobahn being opened only in one direction temporarily, but that "temporarily" means for the next 5 to 6 years. "Planing" an Autobahn does not only contain the technical planing. The tecnical planing actually is the smalest part. Everyone who is directly affected by the project (may it be by noise, using land he owns) or is an organisation protecting enviremental interests has not only the right his concerns have to be considered - they all can go to court an can hold projects for a long time. So actually 5 to 6 years for the next section to be finished is actually quite fast...
They should build highways like tunnels: two teams on opposite sides who are building towards each other and they meet in the middle. this is twice as fast as the usual way.
@@scofield321The problem isn't building but getting permission to build. A typical Autobahn section is about 10 to 20 km long. Which means hundreds of landowners affected. If you double the lenght of the section, you more than double the time needed.
For this reason the process is divided in different parts. First the necessary of the project is to be proven. This results in a law (Anlage 2 zum Bundesfernstraßengesetz) which only can fought political or in the constitutinal court.
This defines necessarity and start and end point.
The next step is finding the possible sections having (at least some) function for themself without the later coming parts (Linienfindungsvefahren). Detailed analysises of any effect the section has follows, wich is the real hard part. This can take decades, because the decissions can be fought in courtby practicly anyone effected. The goverment has to prove no major decissions were wrong. As laws changes permanently (for example enviormental laws) and also the environment itself changes (suddenly a protected type of flora and fauna settles down, the planer have ti permanently check and maybe do a lot of changes - and practicly restart the whole process for the section).
If you double the lenght of a section, you practically quadruple the time to get the right to build.
At a huge construction site, on one of the highways, they remade the road. They first renewed one side and then the other. So the traffic could still continue on one side. Because on the far right, those who drive, who always drive on the right. And in the fast lane, oncoming traffic came. So why couldn't you, when you build the highway, first make only one side of the road instead of the whole one and then the other side? In this way, the motorway could already be used while the second side is being built. Then everyone would have only one lane for a short distance, but the surrounding areas would not be used.
@@teresa6525 The Autobahn not only is the surface, but also has the drainage system, and statisticly 2 briges (bridge defined as opening more than 2m wide) per mile. So both sides are not totally independend. Do not mix up renewing the top 2 or three layers of an autobahn and building a new autobahn. That are two totally different things. If you build the Autobahn, you have to build the complete drainage system anyway, as it is about perpendicular to the road. Also any bridges should be build nearly the same time, as they should be settle down (actually on new autobhans and highways bridges are mostly build a few years in advance for this reason). To do it in two steps would increase the cost over all quite a bit...
Also not using the other side for a few years can be very contraproductive, as nature does not care the other lane should be build there later on. If special protected species settle down there, you might be unable to build the street there later on - or at least loose a lot of time to plan resettlement of protected species and get aditional permissions. So you might end up building the next sections before this section gets ready, wich is much worse than just not use this part for a few years.
@@scofield321 Would be easy if there weren't any NGOs and others going to court over things like the natural wildlife being destroyed (which is their right, only courts take their time, you know) and would be easier still, if it wasn't for federal states having to communicate and compromise with each other... :D
Schulkamerad kam aus Buxteude und nachdem wir ihn gefragt haben und im Internet gegoogelt hatt sich herausgestellt es gibt garkeinen Buxteude'r Märchenwald😂

If you want, i could translate the Realer Irrsinn Episodes for you, before you watch them for a video. Then you have an easier time to understand them fully?
There is still the question why they need 6 years to build a few kilometers of Autobahn. And now let me guess: it begins again?
Quick lesson: if the name of the place really had been 'Nutzlose' (which would actually be extremely weird), the title would have said "Nutzloser Autobahn", with the r at the end of Nutzlose indicating the autobahn 'belonging' to the place.
Also, I'm not so sure people in Germany (and maybe other countries in Europe, as well) are as happy as people in the US living right beside a highway exit. The town itself wouldn't really flourish, I guess. While the exit would come with more traffic, dirt, noise and probably a bunch of fastfood restaurants and a rest stop. Tourists come into the area nonetheless, if it's a touristy area (and I think the area around Jork kind of is). Highway exits aren't as rare here as they seem to be in the US. The only pro I could think of was the people living in the area having quick access to and (theoretically) from the highway.
In Europe, highways are often favored and built to divert and relieve traffic from a road (I think that this led to certain difficulties in Ryan's understanding, especially since the latter is not built from Hamburg to the countryside but from the countryside towards Hamburg which is strange.) Following this the villages often oppose a highway fearing to lose their economic activity no longer seeing travelers crossing them.
However, I have heard of a study in France showing the opposite for our two free lanes, especially with the "village stopover" label which recognizes a village with many services close to a motorway exit and indicates it since the latter. As well as the possibility of building an activity zone on the edge.
This completely makes sense, though. The highway has not yet been finished and opening it now would channel far more traffic into the village/town of Jork than its roads can handle.Because most of that traffic is bound for nearby Hamburg, Germany's second-largest city, not only is it too much to handle, they are also unlikely to profit from it as any car would just pass through without stopping. So, not opening that piece of roa duntil the rest has been completed makes sense. Meanwhile not building it would be pointless because that other part is going to be built, it just hasn't been yet. This is perfectly reasonable.
I frankly don't understand what Realer Irrsinn's problem is with stuff half of the time.
At the moment both sides are open, but there are no signs in the direction of Stade so that there is not so much traffic in Jork. So only local people know that they can use the motorway towards Stade
Local people and people with a navigation system.
2:18 But if I understood you correctly, the guy wasn't running in the middle of the motorway. That's the right-hand lane. To the right of the lane is the slip road to this motorway. 4:50 The fact that the traffic now runs through York is not at all good for all residents. Especially with lorry traffic. Because the load on the road causes cracks on the facades of the houses, the noise and the exhaust fumes are not good either.
I'm living in Stade. Now it’s open in both directions but the Autobahn to Hamburg is still under construction for several years…
"Klagen" isn't just complaining although it can mean that. In this case we are talking about court stuff.

Greetings,
Im from Stade and work in Mittelnkirchen.
Iv seen this "Raler Irrsinn" 1. Hand and this Article changed quite a bit there.
Now there is a new Real Madness with this Autobahn.
It is finished to Neu Wunstorf but the (in the Vid mentioned) Ausfahrt Buxtehude is closed after it was totaly ready caus of one Dr. or Lawyer that took residence close to it after they startet building.......
JuHu is pretty commonly used tho growing out of trend in some places. Pronounced like: "Ju Hu" it is more like a greeting to a friend or maybe close co-worker, pronounced just like at the beginning of the clip. Pronounced as "Juhu!" it's more like a shout of joy / cheer.
I've never heard anyone say "Ju‐hu" as a greeting. 😂
There is a Saying: "In Buxtehude ist der Hund begraben" (The dog is buried in Buxtehude) - at least for now, he can rest until the traffic noise comes from the new motorway.
Offtopic: One of the most beautiful parts of Germany (so called: Altes Land).

Now you would think that the problem has been solved, because the video is already 9 years old.
And yes, the motorway has now been expanded to Buxtehude.
But according to the route planner and wikipedia, the Jork junction is still in operation and passable in BOTH DIRECTIONS 🤣🤣
The highway doesn't end in New York, no, in Jork.
But Jork is not a big city, so you should only be able to drive out of Jork, not to it.
But instead you can drive through Mittelkirchen. They are happy about the traffic jam.
On the one hand I'm proud that you from Indiana are watching a video about my home district. On the other hand I feel slightly embarrassed for this absurdity taking place at my home. 😅
But this video is no longer current, as the next section has been completed a few months ago. However, round two of absurdity now follows: From the connecting road that crosses the autobahn (which connects the towns of Rübke and Neu Wulmstorf), you are only allowed to enter the autobahn coming from one direction (Neu Wulmstorf), but not coming from the other direction (Rübke). This regulation is intended to prevent too much traffic from passing through Rübke, but of course the ban is ignored by most people.
To compensate this embarrassment, I would suggest doing some research on Indiana's highways and streets. There are tons of embarresments there to make you feel better.
I‘m laughing so hard right now!

This isn't as strange as it seems. I was living in a village where a new Autobahn was constructed. For many years the Autobahn ended there and then you have to imagine constant heavy traffic through the village. It adds noise, wear and tear and dangers for people. After 8 years the next section was constructed, it was a difference like night and day. The village even renovated the main road and made everything look nicer and it was so quiet.
But now that the Autobahn was longer and years have passed, it attracted more traffic that had to be funneled through the next villages/town. It was basically hell on earth for those people. In some areas houses developed cracks because of the high volume of trucks going through the cities.
Only in 2019 the Autobahn was completed. About 50(!) years after having been planned. The amount of stupid lawsuits were incredibly. Probably one of the worst examples of German planning and construction.
FYI, it was the A33.
@ryanwass I love the pronunciation of "nutzlos". Without the written word you wouldn't understand it in German. It is very funny.🤣
According to google the highway will most likly be finished in 2026 xD Since the video is from 2014, the highway would've been build for 12 years. Record time tho lol

Very importand! It is not that it would upset the people. It is that there is the POSSEBILITY that it could upset people and there MAYBE could be complaints. Nobody to this day actually complained or they would not have said it that way.
While at the same times there are real complaints from the other Village that has all of that. And with a Village near me that was in a simular situation where the trafic of a Main road (only a federal Road but still) had protested for years because it was incredible dangerous to cross their main road that run through the village. And there were no Crossings or Trafic lights there.
Now the new street is build and the only one complaining was the local bakery because he lost a stupid amount of truckers as customers.
Very importand, the people of Mittenkirchen just wanted the problem to be moved to Jork, only that way from the exit by Jork to the B73 is much longer than from the exit by Mittenkirchen
Those flowers don't look like daisies but like camomille.
Being near a Highway in Germany is not as beneficial for existing businesses as it it in the US. We usually only have a gas station and some fast food near exits, most businesses are still located near their customers, which is usually closer to city centers, as opposed to the US where you have all those kinda rubber stamped shopping districts right off the highway exit. Over time big stores like IKEA or industrial complexes might move there due to the favorable long-distance connections, but in general you're unlikely to see extensive mall districts.
This Autobahn (A26) is under construction since 2002. It's expected to be completed in it's entirety by 2031!🙄
He even did not watch tha last 30 seconds... :o
But construction workers for the Autobahn in Germany are normal road construction companies. You don't work for Lower Saxony in this case or for Germany. You work for usual companies. And in that sector while building/repairing Autobahnen is the fact, that you can bonuses for finishing it earlier than planned, but also have to pay penalties if you didn't finish it in the planned time. That's the reason why a lot of companies doesn't want to do Autobahn-work. Because it is very often that they have to pay the penalties and became bankrupt. I am living in Lower Saxony, too, but way closer to the Netherlands. And we just have two companies here, which are willed to build on Autobahnen, because they are big enough to stem the penalties. Building Autobahnen in Germany is very hard because of environmental reasons or people who complain against any plans. The A20, which should be build to relieve the A1, is planned for at least 15 years now. And I'm just talking about the part from Bad Zwischenahn to Hamburg. That's 200km that should be added to the actual A20, which is from Hamburg to Pasewalk. And they are still in the stage of planning!
Is there also a New Jork ?
the contribution to the A26 is out of date. The madness was almost 10 years ago... Greetings from Hamburg

Hallo ! 🙂 Thx for the video 🙂
I think you understood it correctly, but I as well had problems to understand even the German explanation
Hihi JFYI Nutzlos means useless. That's not a name.
The problem is that the autobahn were not supposed to end in this place! So when the infrastructure in that area were not prepared for the additional traffic pressure they selected not to open it. THAT part is logical. The reason why it was never completed, going past York, the way it was planned is the real question! It was probably something with the EU-funding that was cut of unexpectedly for some reason only known in Brussels (or maybe not).
The reason is that a highway is build in sections one after another. The section till jork where finished but the next section till Buxtehoode was still under construction (Today these sections are already finished and the Highway is opened in all directions).
The Problem was that - because the ready parts ends in Jork - everyone who drives on this autobahn has the exit and drive to the small town here and the streets in Jork are not build to support thousends of trucks and cars per hour.
Therefore they closed the last part in Direction to the unfinished section until this is also finished and they can drive till Buxtehude where bigger streets allows the additional traffic from the temporary end of the Highway (until the next section is finished and then the next etc.)
.
not sure how to translate it, maybe someone can help: responsible for the autobahn is the state germany. but in small towns like Jork its the 'Gemeinde' maybe like Country in US. so if the State fuck up the Autobahn and cause more traffic in little towns what damage the streets the 'town' hs the cost for fixes. somethimes even the local residents have to pay to fix the street. thats the reason why they get mad. In Germany there are many laws and the laws are here for a good reason: To prevent arbitrariness. If you allow one to do as he wishes, he will do things that he and his family will profit from it.
That is a major factor in germanys battle against bribe.
Of course, sometimes it is really just madness: You could have considered this before you built the highway. But if the law exists, that no place must be suffering if a highway is built, then you have to follow it. Otherwise some people would build many highways leading to all small cities and villages, overloading them with traffic, just that the other cities will become a paradise with nearly zero traffic.
Nutz lose 🤪😂
You didn't finish the video... 😅
Juhu is kinda outdated, nowadays people say things like "Sprich Deutsch, Duhu!"
"Jshs is kinda ostdated, nowadays people say things like 'Sprich Destsch, Dshs!'"
Egal wie ich es drehe und wende, da kommt nirgends was sinnvolles bei raus...
Naja... Ich wünsche dir ein schönes Wochenende!
@@insu_na Hmm jetzt verstehe ich... und ein schönes Wochenende auch dir
Why did you skip the last 30 seconds of a 2:30 minutes long video? 😅
You basically skipped the last 1/5 of the video
