I really ask myself how can a guy like Trump, who is an absolute opponent of democracy, and who this man's supporters in front of the Capitol were "well" on the way to igniting something I never thought possible, become a presidential candidate again? I am a 62- year-old German who is very familiar with the history and actions of his own country. And during Trump's first presidency, I had the feeling that the USA was intentionally making the same mistake. The concern about this has not grown smaller, but increased. For me, the USA is responsible that I was able to grow up and live in democracy and freedom. Please don't put all of this at risk for this person. The USA is too important to the world and itself.

If you made a movie out of those stories with modern technology and really made it looks as written, that movie would probably get banned everywhere. The same goes for the fairy tales from the Grimm brothers. (And those were considered the harmless ones, suitable for children!)

Problem with home schooling and parents rights is: How about children's rights? They have the right to interact and socialize with other kids and to not be the odd one out. So the German Law is mainly about protecting the children and their rights. Since they can't voice an independent oponion and "veto" their parents the state pretty much does it for them and provides as much of equal playing field for all kids, as is possible. And legally the protection of the child's rights and interests outweigh the rights and interests of the parents. Which imho should also mean that private (and most importantly religious) schools of all type should be banned, including private colleges... But that's a different topic.

The state has a special role and duty in defending all children... even (or especially) if it's their own parents! Children are no "things", so you're NOT allowed to do with them everything you want. They (children) have rights on their own that have to be protected.
