There are a million reasons why you should learn a new language. But how hard is it to pick up a second language? Well, some languages are easier than others for native English-speakers to learn. Whether it’s a Romance language like Portuguese, a West Germanic language like Dutch or a constructed language like Esperanto, these dialects are more straightforward for Anglophones to grasp. WatchMojo counts down ten languages that are quick for English speakers to pick up.

don't agree on that the Dutch language has exceptions on every rule in the book. German is a lot more consistent in following rules. Even dutch people have in general a hard time getting it right being dutch myself. Hell we even adopted some of the common mistakes made by people in Dutch. English was way easier and german not that much more difficult and those being a foreign languages.

Then we don’t have any visible accent markings so in this case “bike”and “by” make the they y makes a sort of I sound there but won’t in way. Most languages you can get a word and pronounce it correctly without a problem... English is one of the only languages you can be perfectly fluent and still be unable to pronounce something or spell something because so many of our words real our own rules.

Yes, if you’re an English native speaker: norwegian, Swedish, Dutch, french, spanish, German, Portuguese and Afrikaans are the easiest languages to learn because English is related to these languages in some way. Slavish languages have a really hard grammar and the Asian languages, in the other hand, its grammar is pretty easy but have features (tones or writing system) that does harder to learn them. I'm South African and I grew up speaking English as a third language and learnt Afrikaans as a fourth language but I never use it actively (speaking and writing) but I do, however, use it passively (listening and reading).
I wouldn't say it's easy but it is straightforward. If you conjugate the verb "to be" or "être" in English and French respectively in the present tense you get *I am, you are, he is, she is, it is, we are, they are* and *je suis, tu es, il est, elle est, on est, vous êtes, nous sommes, ils sont, elles sont.* Compare with the Afrikaans "om te wees" which yields *ek is, jy is, hy is, sy is, dit is, ons is, hulle is.* The spelling is also phonetic unlike English and French. You can also guess the form of a verb in the past tense and most of the time you'll get it right. You'd have to speak English well to have an easier time.
I mostly just had to learn where to place my verbs and the rest was just vocabulary acquisition ...and idiomatic expressions, of course.

honestly, i think that a language is either easy or not depending on your native language.
if your native language is part of latins or germanic languages of course european languages would be easier than, for example, asian ones.
personally, i am italian, and i'm not saying that italian is a difficult language, because compared with others is not, but i think that maybe for other countries is not as easy as it's described.
sorry for my comment, is not even important, and sorry if i made errors but as i wrote, i'm italian and english is not my first language.
ps: in my opinion english is way easier than italian

Sono d'accordo, ma in quanto italiano non l ho più fatto, finché non avevo sette anni, la mia prima lingua era inglese.

Italian takes 650 hours to learn while English 1500 hours to learn. Italians reading is straight forward and with very few vowel sounds, conjugations take awhile but that's about it lol.

In Finland Swedish is taught as a mandatory language. And it's fucking impossible, since the Swedish speaking minority is very small and you don't get to use the language or hear it, unlike English. Finnish is very different than Swedish so it doesn't help at all. So for English only speakers it might be relatively easy, but not for us Finns XD even for me, who can speak realtively good English
