There are a million reasons why you should learn a new language. But how hard is it to pick up a second language? Well, some languages are easier than others for native English-speakers to learn. Whether it’s a Romance language like Portuguese, a West Germanic language like Dutch or a constructed language like Esperanto, these dialects are more straightforward for Anglophones to grasp. WatchMojo counts down ten languages that are quick for English speakers to pick up.

BraveBurdOK don't you just hate it when they also butcher the pronounciations? And i have to say, ditch isn't easy, german is harder. But norwegian should be in #1 easiest spot.
don't agree on that the Dutch language has exceptions on every rule in the book. German is a lot more consistent in following rules. Even dutch people have in general a hard time getting it right being dutch myself. Hell we even adopted some of the common mistakes made by people in Dutch. English was way easier and german not that much more difficult and those being a foreign languages.
I think got an honorable mention in the other video,
because there are certain words that are difficult to pronounce for new speakers. When i speak dutch a lot of my English friends, can sort of understand what I'm talking about but struggle to write, speak, read it.
BraveBurdOK I think the people who made this list were high on crack. German, for instance, is a very difficult language to learn. There are many CZcams videos that discuss this. Even native German speakers think so.

English is by far the easiest lenguage to learn, by watching youtube i learn english in about 1 year, not even watching tutorials or things like that.
alejo_de_ale English becomes difficult in its pronunciation and spelling. We have random words and letters that letters that are silent sometimes, and not silent other times. Then we don’t have any visible accent markings so in this case “bike”and “by” make the they y makes a sort of I sound there but won’t in way. Most languages you can get a word and pronounce it correctly without a problem... English is one of the only languages you can be perfectly fluent and still be unable to pronounce something or spell something because so many of our words real our own rules.

C’mon! All those comments “my language is not easy to learn”. Yes, if you’re an English native speaker: norwegian, Swedish, Dutch, french, spanish, German, Portuguese and Afrikaans are the easiest languages to learn because English is related to these languages in some way. Slavish languages have a really hard grammar and the Asian languages, in the other hand, its grammar is pretty easy but have features (tones or writing system) that does harder to learn them. Then... please stop with “french, Italian, Portuguese, etc” aren’t easy because, I’m sorry, they are in comparison with another languages.

Agree Romance languages are sooo 12th century. English evolved along with other Germanic languages. Anglo-Saxon Britons stopped speaking French and Latin because they were the languages of nobility and English was simply easier to converse with the your fellow neighbours. In reality only native French speakers want to speak French to each other.
123ricardo210 well english being a germanic language clise relsted to german has a totally unique way of pronouncing words, and all thise latin words they have lent, making everything tvey try to say in even related languages sounding totally wrong, we from the ither germanic countries iften can guess pretty well how it is supposed to sound.

i'm a filipino and elders say when we go to spain and we talk to spanish, we'll be able to understand them since filipino or tagalog is mixed with spanish words
This is really not true. You will understand a few words, but the grammar, structure of the language and pretty much everything is different in Spanish and Tagalog. You have a few lone words and that is where the connection stops.
@@johanrodriguez7147 true, i think 'Chavacano' is much more closer to Spanish even though it contains some portogese and tagalog words.
Not true, though Filipinos can probably understand Spanish a bit more in constrast to how Spanish-speakers would be able to understand Filipino. Nevertheless, having the knowledge of adapted vocabulary is certainly an edge.

French is not that easy, it's a quite complex language.
I speak Spanish as my first language and I kinda agree with you, Portuguese and Italian are waaay easier for me tbh
Norwegian and Swedish are both easier than German.
SoteriosXI no german is easy atleast for lithuanians because letters are simular. For example:
Lithuanians say Ja like ya. Same as germans.
m m So do Norwegian and Swedish.
okaay papasmurf..
so is danish, which is not even on the list XD
Norwegian and Swedish are harder than German
French easy to learn? Holy fuck as much as I love how it sounds... on paper it is absolute cancer to learn.
I'll stick with my Dutch, English and decent German for now ._.
Rick 'RlCK' Hallo ._.
Rick 'RlCK' lmfao french is extremely easy for me.
YOUR MEMES ARE IRRELEVANT As a french, how the fuck have you done ? Even for us it's a tricky language
Rick 'RlCK' french is now a dirty language
DarthCruciare87 Well for me it's the exact opposite, I find writing easiest and speaking hardest. That's probably just because in 5 of the 6 years I've been studying French, the teachers barely ever spoke in French, but I have a native speaker as my teacher this year so I'm improving in spoken French.
This list is basically
Easy: romantic languages
Less easy: Germanic languages
Hard: Slavic languages
Harder: everything else
partly true, Slavic languages have 6-7 noun cases, but your statement is not exactly accurate - you say Romance languages are easy??? then try Latin, it has 7 noun cases as well plus super-complicated conjugation of verbs
Bulgarian does not have cases at all, it's as easy as germanic languages
really??? i did not know that; i thought it as complicated as Polish or Croatian
Which is a bit funny to me, as English is literally a Germanic language, but below the Romance languages.
i think the greek language is about the same level of the slavic languages. its a hard language but not as hard as japanese or chinese
4:10 (clears throat)
Dutch is hard because in the present perfect you don,t hear if there is a d or t at the end for example wordt (become)
If it's not the I form it's word but the you form is wordt
And don,t forget the persoonlijke voornaamwoorden bezittelijke voornaamwoorden voorzetsels lidwoorden werkwoorden en aanwijzende voornaamwoorden
German is one of the hardest European languages. Watchu talkin bout?
Radioactive Turtle but for english speakers is a bit easier
Radioactive Turtle Amen. Even germans can't speak or write german that good. The grammar is hard as fuck tho.
Then take a look at finish.
+alexander trimmer
Idk English has no gender forms or akkusatif, nominatif... so that's really hard to wrap your head around
ich hate nie ein problem deutsch zu lernen
if Italians can't even conjugate verbs correctly and use a decent grammar what makes you believe that foreigners can do it easily, no shade though
U are from italy?
Italian really isn't hard....
I agree, HAHAHAHAH
im italian i agree
Mojo has a top ten everything. I love it
English is my first language, but I'm like B1 in Spanish and like A1 in Catalan and am still actively learning both. I will say Spanish, once you know how latin based languages work, is the easiest of them based purely on pronunciation. Spanish is pronounced essentially as written (even Catalan isn't) aside from very few groups of sounds and h being silent.
Everyone is gonna complain about how hard their language is
exactly. French is not as easy as it looks. French is easy to learn basics, but hard to master at the end.
PoLLoLira9 i learn since 5 years france in school and i can nothing!!!
well, if u dont learn English first its one of the hardest, so many rules that contradict each other.
French is easy to learn and Spanish. The hardest i think is Chinese
well, every language is difficult in its own way.For me,English was difficult to learn cause of spelling(since my native language doesn't have such feature)But on other hand,Russian(which wm deemed as no.2 hardest language to learn)was easy for me,since it shares a lot of grammar rules and words with Serbian(my native language)...
Dutch is on the 10 hardest languages list and now it also is on the list of the easiest languages to learn. A bit contrary isn't it?
Daniël Willems No, it isn't . But if you so silly that can't read the title then It is.
Alex Spacemith Yes it is, it is on the honorable mentions list
well this is a list for english speakers, the hard one was in general
Yeah, these guys messed it up a bit.
I personally found Norwegian very easy compared to every other language on this list. The grammar rules are exactly like English, reading is mildly easy, speaking is very easy and understanding is very easy as well.
Languages I know-
Hindi (native language)
English (2nd language)
Sanskrit (a little bit)
French (a few words and pronunciation)
French is hard as fuck to learn, ok the words are relatively the same, but spelling, pronunciation, grammar and conjugation are impossible
La Vodka i tried and i got like a 48 percentage
If failure is a language Im fluent
FUCCCKING SAME
Here's what I know
Vietnamese (native tongue)
English (fluent)
Spanish (intermediate)
Chinese (conversational)
Since I lived in Houston, I basically speak all 4 major languages in the city. Y'all never know how many free taco I got just by ordering in Spanish being an Asian dude. They REALLY appreciate your effort to learn their language.
I'm South African and I grew up speaking English as a third language and learnt Afrikaans as a fourth language but I never use it actively (speaking and writing) but I do, however, use it passively (listening and reading).
I wouldn't say it's easy but it is straightforward. If you conjugate the verb "to be" or "être" in English and French respectively in the present tense you get *I am, you are, he is, she is, it is, we are, they are* and *je suis, tu es, il est, elle est, on est, vous êtes, nous sommes, ils sont, elles sont.* Compare with the Afrikaans "om te wees" which yields *ek is, jy is, hy is, sy is, dit is, ons is, hulle is.* The spelling is also phonetic unlike English and French. You can also guess the form of a verb in the past tense and most of the time you'll get it right. You'd have to speak English well to have an easier time.
I mostly just had to learn where to place my verbs and the rest was just vocabulary acquisition ...and idiomatic expressions, of course.
Awe
As a Spanish speaker, I found Italian way harder than French. Italian "seems" easy if you speak Castellano, but the verb tenses are WAY more complex than it looks and there are more exceptions than rules.
Spanish has the same complicated verb tenses like Italian. I think Spanish has more complicated verb tenses than Italian because Italian verbs are more regular. So, I don't know why you complain
look, spanish, french, italian and portuguese are kind of difficult thanks for pronunsation and all those lines over the letters (in spanish are called "tildes") but they are way more dificult than other lenguages like english, but well, long live latins :v
El Imperio Renacido Italian only has accents which is for the pronunciation of certain words like "e" (which means and) and "è" (which means is). Otherwise the pronunciation is quite easy cause most words are pronounced the way they're written. The only hard thing really is grammar cause of the verbs
Is Spanish easy to learn my English is shit
Languages worth to learn :
1. English
2. Spanish
3. French
4. Russian
Chinese is super easy to learn
you forgot germany, in case.. , you know...
@@dizzychineseman7445 Yeah, just 8,000 characters... At least.
@@kjn3350 yea and you only have to learn like 50
Add chinese and arabic and you have the 6 languages you can use in the U.N.
French ? Really ? As a french speaker i'm gonna say no it's super hard to learn for one reason...they are so many many rules and conjugation...it's crazy and if you don't apply them, we hear it and it sound weird...like a very very square box...Good luck if you try to learn it, we applaud you if you try it in Québec, it's very well seen...not really in France...
Whether a foreign language is easy or difficult depends largely on the learner. There are several factors to consider here, both internal and external, short term and long term.
Internal factors :
• Linguistic capacity
• Memory capacity
• Passion, determination, or drive
• Self-discipline
• Mentality
External factors :
• sleep quality
• physical environment
• language and culture immersion
😍
Okay, french and german are very hard cause they have many exceptions that you can't learn by heart. And german is even harder because of its three different articles. There is no way you could ever learn that. My english teacher lives for over 10 years in Germany and she isn't even close to get the right articles for every word....I don't know why french and german are on this list...
häschenpantoffel23 basic French is not so hard but German is so hard
I mean most languages have 2 articles, most of the time not even following rules, where German if you really dedicate yourself and learn the article with the word you'll get it down.
Dalton Silverman It's not only the genders but also "die Fälle":
The tree has green leaves.
DER Baum hat grüne Blätter.
->Nominativ
I can see the tree.
Ich kann DEN Baum sehen.
->Akkusativ
The leaves belong to the tree.
Die Blätter gehören DEM Baum.
->Dativ
These are the leaves of the tree.
Das sind die Blätter DES Baumes.
->Genitiv
Because they have many words that sound similar to English.
And yes it's possible to learn all three articles. People can speak hard ass languages like Finnish and Estonian, right? So how could they not be able to speak German. It's child's play compared to Chinese or Mongolian.
It's easier for German speakers to speak English than for English speakers to speak German because of the accent and articles.
"French is easy" *goes on to list all the difficult things about the language*
Yeah I have French at school ( Im Dutch ) and its soo different
Arwen same
Plus infinite tenses.
Le passé simple est horrible
All the languages I know:
English which is my main
French which I’ve had school lessons on for the past 2 years and I’m now fluent and only 14 so that’s pretty cool ig
Bit of German as I learned it in primary school
And that’s all✌️
I just want everyone to know that German is hard as fuck, like, there's 16 ways to say "the"...
Ps. Saying dutch is a lot like German is like saying English is like Japanese
portuguese is easy to learn? wtf
americans can't even say "não"
joao victor soares de melo and they used an American dude that fucked everything he spoke in the video. LOL
oi garota, você, fica comigo?
Paulo Jorge Cruz Pereira Rodrigues Melo e Almeida WatchMojo is Canadian (yes our accents are extremely similar that it's difficult to distinguish between an American accent and a Canadian accent)
joao victor soares de melo then how he fuck do oh pronounce it then?
Black-Op345Gaming NAumgh
honestly, i think that a language is either easy or not depending on your native language.
if your native language is part of latins or germanic languages of course european languages would be easier than, for example, asian ones.
personally, i am italian, and i'm not saying that italian is a difficult language, because compared with others is not, but i think that maybe for other countries is not as easy as it's described.
sorry for my comment, is not even important, and sorry if i made errors but as i wrote, i'm italian and english is not my first language.
ps: in my opinion english is way easier than italian
Sono d'accordo, ma in quanto italiano non l ho più fatto, finché non avevo sette anni, la mia prima lingua era inglese.
Italian takes 650 hours to learn while English 1500 hours to learn. Italians reading is straight forward and with very few vowel sounds, conjugations take awhile but that's about it lol.
And french too
I'm from india and i know English plzz suggest me for second language... German, spanish or othe language u suggest me
Ciao neirde!
My first language is French and i learned english for business. I have to say, i can get a general idea of what is being said in spanish and italien (if spoken slowly) as they use a lot of words that are similar to my languages
I had French at school for six years now I'm a year without learning and practicing it and i have completely forgotten it
Portugese: How a Spanish person sounds after drinking way too much tequila.
Lenin Luna muy cierto
Lenin Luna kinda true :v
It's more the other way around.

Spanish = dry and boring portuguese
Since everything was compared to English shouldn't the title be: Easiest Languages for English speakers to Learn
B rye she mentioned at the start that it was the easiest for a native english speaker
B rye
In Finland Swedish is taught as a mandatory language. And it's fucking impossible, since the Swedish speaking minority is very small and you don't get to use the language or hear it, unlike English. Finnish is very different than Swedish so it doesn't help at all. So for English only speakers it might be relatively easy, but not for us Finns XD even for me, who can speak realtively good English
English channel and they mention it n the video. But yes you are correct.
I speak bosnian english and a bit of german still learning it but bosnian crotian serbian and montenegrin are all the same languages but diffrent accents so i guess i speak 6 languages
