    One of the important differences in maintaining cacti compared to other houseplants is their soil type.
    Because cacti and succulents cannot be planted in the soil of other houseplants.

    Bro i had a very bad experience with cocopeat in succulents. It retains too much moisture which tends to root rot. During the rainy season in india this mixture fails. I prefer more gritty mixture by adding more perlite, pumice, lava rock etc. Your all other ingredients are good 🤗✌️

    • @gardenvid
      @gardenvid  Před rokem

      Hi my friend, yes if you have humid weather, it better use perlite or pumice instead of cocopeat🌺🙂

    I’m going to start using peat moss and coco peat in my soil mix. I didn’t know cactus like a slightly acidic soil mix , and these two soil mixes help with that. Peat moss is very well draining but also helps to hold needed moisture, especially for hot dry summers.

    • @gardenvid

      Yes exactly dear Albert 👌🌹

    • @gforcekaras
      @gforcekaras Před 9 měsíci

      Careful with peat moss because when it dries out completely, it can get hydrophobic iow unable to absorb water.

    Hi, do you think the following would be good for humid and potential wet Florida weather? 50% coarse sand, 25% Pete moss, and 25% perlite? Or would you recommend different percentages? I'm going to have a garden bed that's about 15 inches high and about 225 square feet. Nobody in these parts really specializes in cacti/succulents so I'm kind of left to my own. I'll have mostly agaves and several cacti. I hope you and your loved ones are safe after what happened in Turkey.

    • @gardenvid
      @gardenvid  Před rokem +1

      Hi my friend, it seems your soil mix is good for any weather. If Florida has high humid, don't use cocopeat. But if doesn't have high humid, your soil mix is good 🙂🌵

    How about
    25% Sand
    25% perlite
    25% compost
    25% Cococoir
    Will use it in pots only, outdoors and I live in the desert.
    Too much organic materials or is it fjne?

    • @gardenvid
      @gardenvid  Před 7 měsíci

      It is better if you add more compost and less Cococoir. Because the composition of the soil becomes more nutritious and absorbs less moisture

    What is that vermi compost? I know vermiculite. I live in Southern California.

    • @gardenvid
      @gardenvid  Před 9 měsíci

      Vermicompost is a type of fertilizer that is obtained from excrement of worms. But Vermiculite has no nutrients and its main use is to maintain moisture. These two are very different. 🙂🌺
