Two things, I don't scrap the map but get new road atlases every year at Walmart. The Rand McNally that goes for $20+ at gas stations are about $7 at Walmart. Also, I always keep an air compressor in my tool kit. They are small and can help limp you to tire shop if you get something stuck in your tire and you get a slow leak. Honestly, if you're adept enough, plugging your own tire on the road is not that hard to do.
For what it's worth, I keep a mini air compressor as well as fix-a-flat in my Jeep.
Most states have Stuckey’s. Great places for souvenirs, snacks, drinks, etc. and pretty cheap.
Surprisingly I don't think we came across one! Good tip!

@outlawonadventure oh man we were limited to 2 weeks in 2021 and 3 weeks in 2022, NY to CA and back. Hoping to get a camper vans one of these years so we don't have to live out of a Jeep lol
@@scrapthemap4008 I am disabled, so in this case that’s a blessing lol. My son and his wife just moved to WA state for his job, so I’m planning a nice long trip out to see them. Gotta save $$ and plan the stops. Hope to have a van by then, but right now it’s a Ford Fusion. I would love to have a jeep!!
@@outlawonadventure oh don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my Jeep, but sleeping in it and living in & out of rest areas for 3+ weeks could be a whole lot more convenient with a van lol we made an agreement when we both pay off our 2 Jeeps then it's a green light for a van 🤗 have you been out west before?

Did you take any steps to make sure your roof top carrier or its content were never stolen?
Yes, hours and hours and hours (days) of research to find the most secure & weather-resistant ones out there within a reasonable budget. The one we chose is the Thule Motion XT, which has 3 locks on each side, all unlock with one keyhole, made of ABS plastic which is the same type of plastic that is put on cars (bumbers, mirrors, etc). With all that, we had a pretty good peace of mind.

Honestly I don't know the name; it was on a side street, maybe a 5-10 minute walk east of the pier for Alcatraz.
