@@sajan5555 I thought durian and jackfruit was same. But nope. Anyways I love jackfruit chips. It's very like umm crispy, salty/sweet mixed. I get it for my gramma usually because she can't consume normal Indian food like me. It's just old age thing you know. She used to have when she was younger but now the slightest of spicy foods and snacks makes her sick. She likes jackfruit chips

Hi Jessica,, the ingredients in the mixture will be puffed rice, peanuts, boondi (small small balls made from gram flour even small sticks like that) fried gram, other spices for taste. All ingredients are deep fried items.
For Soan papdi, made of gram flour, ghee, and sugar. That green one is pistachio.
I hope you and the kid enjoyed the snacks.

Soan Papri is one of my favourite sweets items. Basically from North India, but now it is made all India. As you experienced, it simply melts. The green thing at the top must be pistachio peices. This sweet takes quite a long time to make to have the soft texture. Chickpea flour, sugar and ghee are the base for making this. See for a soan papri making video of this item and you will come to know the process. I am sure you must have enjoyed the items you purchased. Great.

Hey Jessica! Love these surprises! Indian namkeen is a VERY WIDE range of savoury snacks which act as great accompaniments to both tea and alcoholic drinks. We serve them with tea to guests in India, along with fresh hot snacks. The peanut candy bar is called ‘chikki Patti’…it’s one of the major sweet winter snacks in North India which gets very cold. It’s made of peanut and jaggery. India has a lot of sweets made from jaggery as a healthy alternative to sugar. In fact it’s very common to eat a piece of jaggery after dinner in winter to stay warm and satisfy those sweet cravings! You could find a wide range of textures in that too. Soan Papdi is a very gentle sweet, often makes for easy gifting during festivals and is easy on the palette. Getting sesame balls right is not easy, as they are tricky. My mom makes the most amazing sesame balls - not hard at all! Excited to see what you try next 😊. Lots of love to you and little Alfonso ❤❤

The combo of the unrefined sugar (jaggery) and the sesame overload is what creates that slightly burnt kinda taste in the sesame candy. And yes the mixture and the banana chips are my favourite. Though I am also a little partial to the casava chips. They wrap these things up tight because soan papdi is like milk cotton candy and bacteria and fungus LOVE that stuff. Its also why they can put edible silver or in this case wrap it up like crazy. And you can think of soan papdi as a cotton candy made of milk. And the green thing is pistachios. Soan papdi is heavily flavored by what you use to prepare it which can include, almonds, pistachios, nuts, saffron etc

If I am not wrong those jackfruit snack made out of the thin sliced jackfruit seeds. That generally we eat like a side dish like when you have dall and rice then you can take it. And the peanut bar is made out of peanut and jaggery mixing together. That is my favourite. Soan papdi is like indian cotton candy but with little bit of spice mixture. And obviously you are right about the mixture it generally goes well with hot tea or cold beverages. You can buy “muri” or popped rice packet you can make a beautiful and delicious snack mixing popped rice, mixture, thin sliced onions, chopped chillies, coriander leaves, and little raw mustard oil. Hope you will try this last thing one day :) cheers

    Thanks for the video.
While during lunch and dinner we eat desserts last, it's the reverse while snacking. First we finish the sweets. And then a couple of savouries (snacks) that go inbetween sips of tea. Ya, that's the way to eat it.
You might have only known white sesame seeds. But for sesame balls mostly the black(healthier) seeds are used with a small addition of white seeds. Sugar is caramelized, seeds are added and continued to further caramelize till the syrup turns almost black. Two reasons - one thing is that the syrup will match the black seeds colour, second is that the syrup becomes so thick that it becomes impossible for the small seeds to wither away during storage/transportation. Moreover one can taste a slight bitter taste like dark chocolate! You need to directly place the ball in between the deep molars(back teeth) and give an extremely hard bite, so that it breaks into two or three pieces and then you can slowly chew them for a loooong time. Another reason for caramelizing so black is that it's the cheapest sweet often stored in bottles in small shops near schools. There may be 100 of them in a bottle, but kids may buy just 1 or 2.. so, the bottle is opened many times by the shop keeper and touched by his hands. Hard caramelizing makes it less susceptible to bacterial growth and improves shelf life.
Soan papdi is lentil flour mixed in boiling sugar syrup+ghee(clarified butter) and on continuous boiling and stirring, the mixture becomes semi hard.. immediately, it's pulled and forms long strands! These strands are once again poured into containers and topped up with sliced almonds and pistachios (the green one). Then they are cut into cubes while inside the container. Once the mixture fully cools, you'll get that flaky consistency! Very labour intensive process..

As an Indian im not a big fan of south Indian banana chips because its thick and is fried in coconut oil which starts to get smelly later . we have our own style of chips its very thinly sliced diagonally deep fried only with oil and salt to get the sweet taste of banana. Many Indians have tried our banana chips and chosed over the south Indian ones. Unfortunately we only have locally made chips than a big industry
