- I got lots of messages from you guys about the radio install so here it is. We didn't get all the shots and I was working on other things and my Son Gavin did most of the install. But very straight forward and 4 years later still working great.

This is so wholesome. My dad just recently had a stroke and we used to work on my Jeep together. He can't use his tools like he used to and it makes me sad. But, this video made me smile.
Awe sorry to hear about your Dad. I just had heart surgery 2 months ago. I enjoy every moment with my kids.
My father had a stroke in 06, I recently lost him this year. Try to do more activities with your father in his current state, he might feel insecure about his new body, but it’s important to always reassure him that he’s still your Superman!
Sorry bout your pops my dude.
The guy sounds just like my grandpa, who gave me his WJ, and my name is Gavin, sadly he moved to Wisconsin and I live in New England. Never did get a chance to work on the WJ with him, hearing him say his son's name gave me chills. So wholesome.
Awe. Working with my son Gavin has been one of the biggest gifts I have in life. I love teaching him and he is starting to teach me things and is way smarter than me. He has developed into a great mechanical guy. He has restored his BMW top to bottom.
I did the radio thing in my WJ already, I just wish I could give you my jeep so you could make it look as cool as yours does. I know there's a level of fun in the journey, but you do a lot of custom work that makes it even more daunting to do. My jeep needs to live in your shop for a few weeks. Oh well, I can dream, right?
I try to tackle each thing one bite at a time. I still have quite a few things to do.
Hej, I looked for this one on amazon but I do not see the same unit for sale. The one they are selling now does not have 6 speaker outputs. Do you still have the box that shows the name and part number of this head?
I loved how you took the time to teach your son as you went.
Thank you. He is a quick learner and is really a great help around the shop. He is a 4.6 gpa student top of his high school class (parent brag) so I am very proud of him.
@@SpiralDesignWorks Man...you probably know how lucky you are to have raised a son that gives a rip about himself and his future. Good job Dad.
I just put a touch screen in mine yesterday and I love it but it was very time consuming looks great sir great job on the Grand so far keep it up
Thanks for watching. We have been enjoying it. Camping again next weekend.
Hej, I looked for this one on amazon but I do not see the same unit for sale. The one they are selling now does not have 6 speaker outputs. Do you still have the box that shows the name and part number of this head?
Nice to see getting your son involved. Nice work.
Thanks 👍I love teaching young people stuff. IF they are interested they absorb it like a sponge.
When are your front and rear bumpers gonna be available again.
Ahhh, the video I hoped existed. Thank you.
They changed the Android stereos available at those links. I ordered the one that looks like the one you installed. I realized it was different when it would not swivel left and right. It does sit higher over the vents though but I would rather it swivel left and right.
Yes I need to update the links.
ALL AFTERMARKET RADIO USE THE SME COLOR CODES BUT FACTORY DOES NOT
Mary Jane
Hey man, my radio came with a canvus and I have no sound yet. I am just not sure if I need to attach the ground black wire to the amp black wire that came off the factory radio plate. Thank you in advance
Hey i have a 4.0 wj and when i plug the alternator in the volt meter spikes to 18v. And the ac doesn't turn on and the air only blows out of the defroster. I have replaced the alternator, battery temp sensor, CLEANED grounds, what could be the problem
maybe a bad alternator? should be putting out like 14.4 volts I believe.
I believe some of the WJs had the voltage regulator in the ECM. That may be your issue.
Wow your Jeep looks badass ❤
Thanks! 👍
Hello, very good things on your channel.
I wanted to ask you how you did it with the radio steering wheel control
Works?
I did not hook it up. I need to. I believe you just have to program it. It is based on voltage.
I tried to do mine but my speakers won’t make any sound at all I have a factory amp under backseat and I just can’t get the aftermarket to make any sound at all
You probably need a adapter box. Do a search for aftermarket radio with CANBUS adapter
I love this video i got a 2000 and i was wondering if your jeep has the stock infinity gold amp and speakers
It does. I am not much of a audiophile any more so it works for me.
The headlights in the video look different than the ones you provide the link to buy on Amazon.
I used 2011-13 aftermarket Grand Cherokee lights in mine. I have provided links in the headlight videos. But I also provide links to aftermarket lights that actually fit the 99-2004 WJ which is probably what you are looking at and what most guys want. Making the newer ones fit is big work. Thanks for watching.
Great install vid but a even greater father!💪🏾
I appreciate that. I am loving having him take an interest. He installed a new started in the WJ last week and brakes on his grandmas car few weeks ago. He is a quick learner.
@@SpiralDesignWorks Nice!! he,ll only get better!
What another parts did you have to purchase to make this fit correctly? Can you link a list? Thank you.
Hey Jeff, how are you guys liking this headunit? I know it's almost been a year that you installed it. Sound still good? Bluetooth connection to phones/ wifi for video playback? Have you tried Carplay if you have any iphones? Thanks man. Love you videos and products. Looking to grab some of the molle panels for my WJ as soon as I get it back on the road.
Yes we love it. We have put about 15k miles on the WJ traveling so far and it has been great. No issues at all. IS really nice to download maps to it when out of cell service.
Awesome, I ended up pulling the trigger on this thing. Did you run into any issues with the wiring harness? I see the grey plug and the black plug but all see a black and yellow wire that was connected to the previous harness. Did you have those?
I read the previous comment about the steering wheel controls and you said you just didn’t connect the wires. What wire would you have connected? I don’t see any wire in the factory harness for the steering controls and I’m a little stuck. Thanks!
I believe it is a single yellow wire. Works by sending different voltages. You have to program the radio to each signal.
Nice one!!
Thank you. We are really enjoying the big display. Makes navigating offroad super easy.
Glad I found this channel - Awesome work! 2 questions. Can you adjust that screen to eliminate glare and is it bright enough during the day? I've had some touch screen radios that were too dim to see in daylight. Also, did you brace your roof for the rooftop tent? Somewhere the manual for my 2004 WJ says max load is 100 lbs or so for the factory rack. I weight more than twice that by myself!
Yes the screen moves around on a gimble and has a night and day brightness mode. Works great. The roof top tent is bolted to four custom brackets with 4 bolts each into the roof channel. So 16 bolts holding it down it is not going anywhere. I originally had it bolted to the factory rails but did seem iffy.
I can't find that SAME one
Try this one. Just put it in my camper van. amzn.to/3IT9k4O
Do the vents right behind it ever overheat the screen at all?it seems like it sits directly in front of them center vents lol.but it's awesome.i may tose one in my WJ.lol
Well I'm in Florida so only the AC is ever on. But they are just below the screen. I doubt it would be a problem
Hi there guys and a very Merry Christmas to you all.
Greetings from Sunny Queensland, Australia :-D
I love your videos on your mean machine...Jeep :-)
I'm wondering if the 10 CD stacker still works with this system??
IT did but we removed and and use the CD box as storage.
Man not the wood grand
Only the finest synthetic plastic wood look trim for you buddy!
Nice install do you have the links to the parts used.
I just added them to the description. The Radio is no exactly the same as it is not on amazon anymore.
good job
Thank you! Cheers!
Is Steering wheel controls works with this set up ????
yes you just have to program it.
Hey jeff, what model stereo is that exactly?
Current links in the description. That one is no longer available
nice project '. does steering wheel buttons working with that ?
they would if I would have hooked up the wire. Then you program it.
Spiral Design Works how do you program?
How does it work off the grid? Does it have to have a connection at all times or?
I believe you can connect it with a mobile service. But I use my phone to hotspot for waze, youtube etc. It does not need that for just playing music, radio etc.
@@SpiralDesignWorks Google maps can be downloaded on WiFi at home (or on mobile hotspot from your phone) by saving a map of the area you'll be driving. Find this option in the nap settings. The same applies to Google maps on your Android phone. I believe it needs to update every so often, maybe once monthly
Nice video overall... One question: why crimp instead of soldering?
We do both. We have a soldering station set up right there where Gavin was working. Just depends on my mood I guess.
Crimpimg works just fine and it is 10 times faster...
Link is busted. What radio is this?
It was a "pumpkin" brand. Amazon. I will see if I can find something similar.
Looks great. Any issues with it since putting it in?
No it has been one of our favorite mods. Back up camera is great to have and using the downloaded maps on the trails really helps.
Any issues with the vents being "blocked"? Im worried about hot air from the vent damaging the device.
No Issues with us be we are always running the AC.
You can route them right under and out the same vents w a dremel and some plastic. Depends on which radio you get, too. Mine came w a trim piece to replace the wood part and it's even more seamless than his. I used weather stripping between the vent grills and that even so no air gets blown on the device internal. Rocking mine over a year in high heat and cold w ZERO issues!
@@darthbacntildeth7221 what parts are you using for the kit and head unit?
Mine is still stock. I want something like this but I'm thinking a double DIN kit might be cleaner.
Also, my radio reception goes to static when I plug in a cigarette lighter USB power adapter to charge my phone. Any thoughts on how I can fix that would be great.
Great job.:)
Thanks for watching.
@@SpiralDesignWorks
I'm following your channel as it is a great source of information and I love it's vibe
Hi, i like you video and more the jeep. 🚗
Does this radio include a reverse camera? 🙋🏻♀️
Yes some do some dont. Models change pretty frequently on amazon. but they generally at least have the input.
@@SpiralDesignWorks thank’s 🙋🏻♀️💕
Would it fit a hero liberty sport tho
no idea
I'm getting me one does it work w hand controls
yes if you program it.
Can you mirror a samsung phone to the unit. I dont have Hotspot, but have unlimited data.
I think you can. I can't find this unit listed any more on Amazon but I can bluetooth, watch movies, maps, etc.
Hey quick question did the hand controls work
Yes I think they would but we did not hook it up for some reason. There is an output lead for it. You have to program it.
Do you happen to have a link to the wire plug kit you used?
Never mind the radio kit has the plugs with it I didn't notice.
Hi there! Where can I buy this radio set please??😁 thank you !!!
Link in the description but things change fast with amazon.
Will this Radio install kit work for a 2004? I’m a total newbe when it comes to radio stuff.
Most likely will be good. Wj goes from 99-2004
Awesome, the kit says till 2001 so that was worrying me. Thanks for the help.
Please Helpe get mine so gorgeously beautiful ^_^. Just got a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo when I moved to CA. 2wd but I love it. It had been in a hit and run and I've been working on it. It's my daily now. Any pointers? Thanks for the video.
Just keep plugging away at it. Work on important stuff first like brakes, suspension and keeping it running good. Then cosmetic.
How is it holding up
good been at least 3 years and working well.
Where you guys located?
Shop is in Deland Florida. Thanks for watching.
Do they make a version of that radio for Apple?
Yes I think it also has apple car play. But you should verify before you buy one.
I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited with seat memory. Will this also work with the seat memory as well
I don't really know what the seat memory has to do with the radio. I believe the seat module for the seats is in the driver door.
@@SpiralDesignWorks yes modular is in driver side door. But I believe the memory in the function is in the radio. Does your WJ have that? And if so with the radio that you have installed which I like. Does the memory function still work
I think what's being asked here is premised upon the fact that the driver's memory buttons, which we associate with the seats, will also store preferences for the radio, in addition to the seat position, mirror position, etc.
where can I get the exact same headlights?
I bought them off Amazon but I cannot find any of them anymore. 2011-13 Grand Cherokee aftermarket lights.
How do you like your receiver? Still happy with it?
Yes we love it. Especially on the trails as it can store the Gaia maps to help keep us on the trail even if we lose internet.
What is the name of the radio you are dialing?
The brand was "pumkin" so far so good.
Bellissimo quanto costa
😁👌
What a primitive install, don’t take this as an example
I checked out your channel to see the best installs thought maybe I'd get some pointers....oh no videos no subs. I guess I'll keep trying on my own. Thanks for the troll.
If you call that an upgrade. It looks like a fucking car wreck just waiting to happen to me
Have you been in a Tesla?
