  • I needed to replace the dehumidifier in my basement and I really like the features on Model APEH70LW from GE. I bought it at Sam's Club. #notsponsored
    **UPDATE -- NOT RECOMMENDED**
I received tons of negative comments about GE dehumidifiers but mine was working fine all along. Then it recently died after just 18 months. That’s only 6 months beyond the 12-month warranty. For 22 years in this house, I always bought Kenmore dehumidifiers and they lasted around 6-8 years but sadly Sears is no longer in business. This was my first non-Kenmore dehumidifier and I am grossly disappointed with the 18-month service life.
    DO NOT BUY GE DEHUMIDIFIERS.

Thanks for your review today. I bought the adel50lw model. I really hope it works. I would get sick after working out in my basement and didn't know why until I went through bottles of cold medicine and sinus medicine and realized it had to be my basement and then the weather warmed up and the musty smell got strong as ever. I'm going to have someone come out and check for mold to make sure. I just bought my home a year ago I really hope that it isnt any mold and if it is it's nothing major or costly. Anyway because of this review I went to Home Depot and purchased it for the same price. Unfortunately they played me on my discount of 20 bucks! 😡

Perhaps if they are not used during the winter like up north maybe the seals dry out and the coolant leaks? But down here daily use three years of daily and running great. Did you know when you run a defroster in your car it runs the air conditioner just so that the compressor is turned on year-round to prevent leaks and maintenance issues. Perhaps this machine should be run at least twice a month?

Happened upon this video. GE Humidifier drain pump stopped working in 2 weeks. Will be a big hassle to send away then wait, and get it back and still might not work. Would have loved to know how to fix it myself. Did find that there is a gravity feed discharge, so I suppose I will go to the hardware store and buy a condensation pump like air conditioners use and deal with it that way. GE only warrants their stuff for a year, because they know they're not the reliable company they once were and does not want to stand behind the crap they sell. They just want your money, they don't care about you or the products.

It’s really sad that appliances are engineered for a limited lifespan. Then they end up in a landfill.

The new ones do look nice but it will likely lose its refrigerant within a few years.

I have model APEL70LWQ1(70pint) which died exactly after 2 years and 10 days. GE wont repair or service any of its dehumidifier once it is over 2 years hence $280 goes down the drain. No one these days repair dehumidifier. GE took down my review for the product to safeguard them from Recall. Almost everyone with this model complained this dehumidifier giving up exactly soon after 2 years. Beware of GE products. It does not manufacture quality products as it used to. None.

Where the heck is the damned "drain cover on the back of the unit"?
Mine is draining into the tank despite my having connected a gravity-draining garden hose to the side connector.
The instructions are very unclear about this. Thanks.

There are millions of people who will spend 500 dollars or more for a pair of shoes that end up at Goodwill or even in the landfill within a year. 2 seasons for less than 500 bucks is not a rip-off. Especially considering it should be running 24-7-365...if you have a need for a dehumidifier in most cases it is constant. There are periods during the year of peak demand , but there is almost always some demand. Areas with high humidity almost always have high humidity.
Not defending GE. Just saying where we set the bar for quality is probably skewed. And 2 or 300 dollars really isn't that much these days.

I have a GE ADEL70LRL2 I purchased in Jan. 2016 It stopped working 1 year later. Do not buy a GE Humidifier. They are JUNK. I am guessing it leaked Freon, and there is not valve to re-charge the system. I tore it down to find a way to recharge it, the condenser looked brand new(no dirt), the fan was working, the filter was clean. But the Freon tank was red hot.

The people who make these really have us fooled. There only 2 maybe 3 companies who make all the different brands. So if you say I won’t buy that brand again, and buy another brand the same company could still be getting your money. You can’t win.

HandyDadTV keeping the video up as-is is somewhat dishonest then, don’t you think? I haven’t found a single review anywhere on the web of this thing lasting more than 2 years. I’ve absolutely had it with anything American-made, especially GE.
