    I'd suggest getting one with a pump feature if you can drain it into sump pump or utility sink. I appreciate you using my amazon affiliate link.

    Thank you so much for this tip! I live in the St Louis area and the humidity is insane here. Add in living in a house that is 118 years old and well you know what happens lol. I just bought a dehumidifier yesterday (ran it in my bedroom first, when there was about 70% humidity and within a couple hours, I got it down to 50%). I will be taking the dehumidifier to the basement after work and hopefully opening my old basement windows to allow for cross ventilation (something I never realized that I needed to do). Thanks again!

    I just a house built in 1972, very nice house , but have a mold problem in the basement in several places, Black mold. Cleaning Vinegar ( it's 10% Acetic Acid ) killed it dead. Spray on, leave for one hour. and very cheap by the gallon. Very humid in the basement though, I guess I need to invest in a dehumidifier. Thanks for the video and I just subscribed.

    Nice to know I’m not alone. I have a lot of equipment in my basement which has been carpeted and painted. I have rare old VHS tapes down here too which are notorious for getting mouldy. I currently have two dehumidifiers running daily just to keep humidity at 69-79%. Keen to get a humidity controlled fan going to the outside which should help

    Very helpful thank you. I just bought a Haier 65 pint digital dehumidifier for my basement. I keep electronics down there, and would like to make it healthier environment for them and myself, reduce mold and smell. I'm just gonna run this thing whenever I'm not downstairs working, and empty it often. Thanks again for this helpful vid.

    Also, Costco sells air dry you hang them onto something they are 8 in a box I picked them up for under $10 at the local Costco in Maryland. They are suppose to last up to 72 days. You can use them in addition to your dehumidifier ✅

      Sounds similar to the lava rock that absorbs moisture, it worked for a semi truck I had that had a seal that allowed moisture in. To reactivate the rock, you would set it in direct sunlight to dry out.

    Hi Eric. This is what worked for me since I couldn’t drain directly into a sink
    Put the dehumidifier up on a table or crate- something a bit taller than the receptical ( trash can). I put the machine on a rubber-plastic drain board tray made for under a dish rack and it slopes nicely. So any leak or spillage goes on the tray and that’s it. Use the collected water for plants, iron- it’s distilled. Empty the trash can or bucket full of water into the washer if that’s easy . Maybe you could make a video of this showing what I am talking about. People don’t realize how important this is. Old houses may not be so moldy because they are “airy” -leaky. Well sealed modern homes are at risk

    I just had my home pumped full of cellulose insulation. When I asked about updating the 2 basement windows, they told me to forget windows and to seal up the openings, which they did. I disagree with their thinking, remembering what my mother used to say,"open the windows and air out this place". I know how much better the upstairs feels after it has had a airing. I bought a Sani-dry dehumidifier. The seller says it will get the basement humidity down to 50%, down where mold doesn't grow and it has 2 filters on it to remove the mildew, can't wait for it to get here!

      How's it working out? I agree certain times of year it's better to let some air in. I have windows looking to replace to with glass block and little vents.

      +Eric Worral Looked into getting a 16 inch Barn fan mounted in place of one of the basement windows. With a controler you can set it to run when you want. This draws air from the house above and sends it out the basement window. Also going to get a 50 lb bag of CaCl2. Can get it for $17.00 and plan on putting it in metal strainers over 5 gal. buckets. I know this works as my dad used to use it back in the 60's in his basement. Haven't got the Sani-dri yet, coming on Wednesday.

  • @americanbasementsolutions8466

    I agree that humidity can damage your basement. The dampness from humidity can cause the walls and foundation in the basement to rot, leading to structural damage and even health problems for your family.

    Hi I live south of you in Sullivan County NY. Question is I have a crawlspace high enough to stand in. I have mold but i also have from time to time water. I do have a sump pump which runs continuously 24/7. 365 days. I a block away from a lake and had been told there's an underground stream running in my back yard. The other problem is that i have a flat roof which was replaced 2-3 years ago. I have condensation running along the ceiling on humid days same time..... I was told to put the humidifier down in the crawl space to get rid of the condensation on the main level. That doesn't make sense to me? Roof needs to be vented having a hard time cause no one wants to do it.

      Without windows, getting any kind of fresh air intake or cross ventilation can be very difficult, if not impossible. Get yourself a real good dehumidifier and keep the humidity level setting on the unit at around 35% - 50%. You will definitely feel and smell a difference rather quickly. Good Luck, Abdulrahman!

    • @mnm8083
      @mnm8083 Před 6 lety +2

      Joseph Cardoni A Fan running also is a good idea. Just get a cheap box fan to keep the air moving!

    • @josephcardoni5183
      @josephcardoni5183 Před 6 lety

      Agreed, Misty! In the basement of my 150 year old home, I have three fans running; a nice heavy duty one that sits near the ground by my open basement walkout blowing out the stale air, and two cheap box fans in front of two different windows that bring in the fresh air. Keeping that "dead" air moving is key. And if you can find an outlet for it, all the better! When it's really hot and humid out, I shut the windows and walkout and run the dehumidifier. : )

    • @Dansk55
      @Dansk55 Před 5 lety +1

      From what I understood, open the windows ONLY if the humidity is low (preferably under 30%). That's what I do, however, I never turn the humidifier on when I have the windows open. Just a fan to circulate the air

    • @ProBuyersGuides
      @ProBuyersGuides  Před 4 lety

      I think the attachment is real close to where the filter is. There is a regular hose connection down in there and then you just have to make sure the hose is traveling lower than the humidifier or it won’t work.
