- Huge drone attacks have destroyed several major oil refineries overnight and have also hit major repair stations for the Russian army in Berdyansk, completely halting repairs that put Russian tanks back into action. Gazprom has announced for the first time ever that they are not making any profits, and are instead hemorrhaging money. The Russian economy looks to be in very bad shape. Meanwhile Britain has given permission for Ukraine to use their weapons directly on Russia, and Macron has stated that French troops in Ukraine is much more likely as time keeps passing.

Europe has likely come to the conclusion that the war must be settled with Ukrainian victory.
An absolutely Ukraine victory. But I fear that as soon as from many real experts predicted Ukraine is on a winning streak to liberate Crimea and the rest of the Donbas region, a lot of western supporters want Ukraine to give up this land and negotiate with Russia. Hopefully they don’t listen to this voices and continue to fight until every last stone is under Ukrainian control again like in the borders of 1991.

Ukraine and France have already decided. Their current statements are just getting people ready not to be surprised.
It's possible. France already has to fight over the uranium mines in africa, and there they fight russian mercenaries. So if France takes on supporting roles in Ukraine, and it frees up ukrainian soldiers, Russia would have to pull out mercenaries in africa, which gives the French room to breathe, and they really need this uranium mines. It's 70% of their energy infrastructure.
So French in Ukraine could be a win-win, because it means, the french have to fight less in africa, while Ukraine has more manpower.

As a UK citizen, I'm heartened to hear that the British government is untying Ukraine's hands vis-a-vis how weapons are used. Also happy to hear Macron's statements. The nuclear rhetoric emanating from Putin and his sock-puppets falls kinda flat when the nations he threatens are capable of a response in kind.
That and France's nuclear doctrine includes the option to fire "warning shots". Not sure how one fires a nuclear warning shot, but according to the French this is apparently possible.
This is not a new stance for the UK, this was just a reaffirmation of what had already been stated publicly

Why the people of the US allow them to have all these paid holidays is beyond me. If history is anything to go by the US aren't always the most reliable ally - they took their time supporting us Brits in ww1 and ww2 and in the Falklands... If Eastern weapons are used by the Russians inside Ukraine, it seems perfectly reasonable to expect Western weapons to be used by Ukraine inside Russia.

Thanks for update, I think the reason for Britians change was because of the Russian use of Iranian, N. Korea and other country's weapons systems especially missles being used on civilians. I think the West has drawn a line and Putin crossed it.

Russia is NOT the sole producer of oil in the world.
Worldwide production is 83M barrels a year & Russia only produces about 10M.

I agree, there certainly is a link, also this is not just about oil, but mostly about refined fuels such as gasoline and diesel, this is why it's called world's gas station.

Better to give French military equipment in mass to Ukraine while replacing the forces with modern technology, than to commit troops in Ukraine.
Having NATO training or individual countries in Ally countries like Romania and Lithuanian could be seen as a show of force to oppose Russian expansion.

I wonder how many long range drones Ukraine is able to produce. This question is because i wonder if it is necessary to use expensive British rockets to target Russian oil infrastructure while their air defense is very poor and imo there is no need to use these rockets
Russia has been using GPS blocking tech so that's why you need sophisticated rockets that use inertial guidance.

Just a thought, and im only a simple PFC in the LSA, but it may be that the prohibitions on using U.S. munitions across the border into Russia, may be more about protecting western technology and preventing them from being reverse engineered?

So somehow, I missed it. I can't find anything referring to the US restricting Ukraine and where US weapons delivered can be used. Last statement from one member of the Joint chief of staff was questioned by media was quoted "We just provide the military equipment; we don't dictate to Ukraine how they are used" that was over a year ago in a live interview. I haven't seen any other comments from the president, the cabinet, the joint chief of staff to include the security of defense of any restrictions made by the US.

Don't forget, the French basically fight Russia in africa. Russia supports groups there, and has mercenaries there, that try to push the french out, and they need the uranium mines in africa to keep their power plants going. It's 70% of their energy.
So imo it's understandable why the french are so willing to deploy their troops to Ukraine. If things go worse for Russia in Ukraine, they would have to pull out mercenaries from africa, so the French would have to fight less in direct combat. The french could take on supporting roles in Ukraine instead, and it would give them room to breathe in Africa, because things really don't look that great there, and Russia is trying to make it as bad as possible...

So yes, there are still considerable parts of Africa that used to be French colonies who can call on France for military aid and intervention. By the same token there are still quite a lot of formerly colonised island nations that elected to remain a French Protectorate or that elected to just be part of France as an overseas territory. Similar to how The Netherlands and France share a land border on a tiny island in the Caribbean, it's basically a left-over from colonialism.
So the French troops in Africa are there at the request of their national governments and because France promised to back up the legitimate governments after decolonisation.

It’s really surprising how poor the air defense is in Russia they just keep getting hammered and hammered with very little reporting of the missile or drones getting shot down
