The book Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas is one of the best books I've ever read. I can't get enough of learning about Deitrich and the faith and principles by which he stood. I need to read The Cost of Discipleship

Then you don't have a high standard of reading. I read through Dietrich Bonhoeffer (that's how the name is spelled) and there is some good indications that this man was a reprobate. That there was something terribly wrong with the man was also evident to a number of German Evangelicals.

Indeed, he stood strong on his faith and principles. He was never ashamed of his dependence on Christ for the difficult decisions.
The Lord Jesus is the Only One Who will bring peace to this wicked world. He is coming back!
The whole of scripture points to Jesus' second coming to earth to take His rightful place reigning as King on this earth.
History repeats itself, and scripture tells us a more evil one than Hitler will soon enough be on the worldwide stage. The last few years have shown us how easily it is for worldwide dictates to be put in place.
My prayer is that many come to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ soon, and certainly before that most evil time period comes upon the world.
1Corintians15:1-4 is the gospel....the good news for our eternal souls that we must only believe God the Son, Christ Jesus died, was buried and three days later rose again from the dead.
It is a free gift...saved from the punishment of our sins...no Hell. Saved to be with the Lord in heaven into eternity!
We did nothing to become saved...only believe..and we can do nothing to stay saved. Soon as we believe, we have the Holy Spirit living within us and we are sealed!
This man, Dietrich, depended on Jesus. Part of Dietrich's ministry, and life, was to let people know Jesus is available to anyone.

@Walt Lonsdale Well, that was treason wasn't it? And well, if you are in military service especially at an officers rank, there is a duty of remonstration, if you find the decisions of your superiors wrong. Bonhoeffer didn't remonstrate. He wished for a catastrophe of his own people, because they did not worship him and his ideas. That's narcissism to the extreme.

For some of us, and some churches, there is also no worse option. That's probably why there are so many fakes, because they don't believe in what they are doing and they realize there is nowhere else to go to get the support they need to survive in this world.
It also creates an amazing opportunity to operate a global criminal network of brainwashed participants who will support anything that is put in front of them, no matter how corrupt or stupid it may be to less gullible eyes. It's an obvious manipulation, any master predator would seize the opportunity to be a cult leader. And they usually do, on some scale or another.

There are still enough philosophers, poets and valuable thinkers of every culture among us around whom we should listen to! Today we have no excuse with the Internet of not knowing them! I wish some of our republican friends would watch this and understand the perspective... back in 2013 I did a 6 part series and opened with this
“What is a moral person to do in a time of savage immorality? That question tormented Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German clergyman of great distinction who actively opposed Hitler and the Nazis. His convictions cost him his life. The Nazis hanged him on April 9, 1945, less than a month before the end of the war. Bonhoeffer’s last years, his participation in the German resistance and his moral struggle are dramatized in this film. More than just a biographical portrait, ‘Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace’ sheds light on the little known efforts of the German resistance. It brings to a wide audience the heroic rebellion of Bonhoeffer, a highly regarded Lutheran minister who could have kept his peace and saved his life on several occasions but instead paid the ultimate price for his beliefs.”
In the second paragraph of the Book of Confession introduction to The Theological Declaration of Barmen we read:
In January 1933, after frustrating years in which no government in Germany was able to solve problems of economic depression and mass unemployment, Adolph Hitler was named chancellor. By playing on people’s fear of communism and Bolshevism, he was able to persuade the Parliament to allow him to rule by edict. As he consolidated his power, Hitler abolished all political rights and democratic processes: police could detain persons in prison without a trial, search private dwellings without a warrant, seize property, censor publications, tap telephones, and forbid meetings. He soon outlawed all political parties except his own, smashed labor unions, purged universities, replaced the judicial system with his own “People’s Courts,” initiated a systematic terrorizing of Jews, and obtained the support of church leaders allied with or sympathetic to the German Christians.
It would be hard to think of something such as this happening today. The lessons of history continue to remind us. The thoughts, theology, letters and other papers that we have of Bonhoeffer can be a powerful tool to keep alert for those forces of ultra nationalism (in Germany eventually called Nazism) that tend to erode the freedoms so hard earned in exchange for what could be called security or stability. It was George Santayana , who, in his Reason in Common Sense, The Life of Reason, Vol.1, wrote "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
George Santayana (1863-1952) words are rooted in the philosophies of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and many others to follow. The Stanford University provides an outstanding outline and additional background on this important and profound philosopher, essayist, poet and novelist.
Santayana's quotation, in turn, was a slight modification of an Edmund Burke (1729-1797) statement, "Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it." Burke was a British Statesman and Philosopher who is generally viewed as the philosophical founder of modern political conservatism.

20:02 he got it right and understood the Gospel. Would I have resisted? No, God set a time for war and for peace. Resistance is interfering, is being rebellious against God. He set in political powers and depose them again. God is fulfilling his word and we shouldn’t interfere his action. Resisting can be just a simple No, but if you kill you will be killed by the sword. Read Revelation 13:10 it’s important to internalize this for the future dark days. Resistance is easier than preparing to die for your faith in Christ.

A pathetic argument. An all-powerful, infinitely loving and wise god that, so the Bible tells us , repeatedly performs miracles on behalf of the Jews, for example parting the Red Sea, when it came to the the Holocaust, did nothing as 'bad men' slaughtered their good. Many observant Jews jews pondered this question, and unlike you, have not been able to provide an answer and as a result, given up their faith. I am sure the same question is being asked after 1,200 Jews were pogromed by Hamas on October 7. What had they done to deserve their fate?

He allows suffering for a time for an eternal purpose, of which we are most unaware, but we do get bits and pieces here and there. I was dismayed that I couldn't make out what was being said half the time and had to turn the volume all the way up, but then when the narrator came back on it was blasting so I had to turn the volume down again. It was very distracting and annoying. But other than that I enjoyed the history and admired the men who tried to stand for what was right to them. Sometimes it is very hard for people to understand and know God's will and what a Christian "ought" to do.

He trusted in the Lord with all of his heart, loved and followed Jesus every day. Have you actually read any of his books, such as The Cost of Discipleship, or Life Together? He taught that Jesus wants us to give Him our Whole Life, not just repeat a shallow prayer inviting Jesus to live in a small corner of a still self-centered life; which is what is taught by most Americans who choose the terminology you have used.
What did Peter tell the crowd of people in Acts 2, whose hearts were cut to the quick on the day of Pentecost, when they asked how they could be saved? Did he say, “You must be born again and so now repeat the sinners prayer after me?” No, they were ready, hungering for God from their hearts! Peter told these who wanted to follow Jesus that the first step is to repent and then be baptized. They obeyed, that very same day! They were also filled with the Spirit of Jesus! And then they spent the rest of their lives loving, worshiping and following Jesus and fellowshiping daily with their brothers and sisters in Christ! Do you have that testimony?
A life focused on knowing, loving and serving God, loving and serving people, walking with and following Jesus daily, giving Him First Place in our lives, is a life of full joy! I pray you have this, and focus on judging your own heart rather than the hearts of others.

Mary and Joseph save no one. Why are you praying to dead humans as if they were some kind of deity? Dear friend, your theology is terribly confused if you believe this is in any way acceptable behavior before God. The Bible is quite clear in it’s prohibition against necromancy (communicating with the dead) as well as praying for the dead. A person’s eternal destiny is confirmed at the moment of death. Praying for them at that point is useless. Praying to other dead people on another dead person’s behalf is especially useless; dare I say it is in fact, endangering your own soul. Only Jesus Christ can save us from sin and death. Praying to anyone or anything else is to make a mockery of the power of Christ’s once and for all sacrifice on the cross. Luke 16:19-31, Hebrew 9:27, Deuteronomy 18:11, 1 Timothy 2:5.

This excellent documentary is marred by far too many ads. They are very distracting.
What's worse - and quite annoying and ironic - is to watch this documentary about a deeply anti-authoritarian, anti-Nazi, ecumenical theologian filled with ads for partisan right-wing religious movies, and a conspiratorial religious public service ad that makes a positive mention of Donald Trump. This is the sort of religious messaging promulgated by amoral evangelical opportunists like Fox News, white nationalists, the money-grubbing right-wing TV preachers, and gun-loving racists who preach an angry, bigoted form of Christianity that would have been unrecognizable to Jesus - and unacceptable to Bonhoeffer. The latter was a dedicated intellectual, reflexively analytical man who would have found the simplistic, hyperpartisan, reactionary religion of the US evangelical right to be odious - and little different from the "theology" of Christian Nazis. In his resistance work against the Nazis, Bonhoeffer made common cause with political Liberals, agnostics, atheists, and with Christians of various sects.
Bonhoeffer embraced civil rights. He loved the theology, practices and the political mission of black churches in the USA. He would certainly have embraced and worked for the Civil Rights movement in the 50s and 60s, had he lived. He would definitely, positively have supported voting rights. He would have reviled Trump and the January 6th insurrection. To consider otherwise is willfully ignorant.
