I love those kind of jokes for delivering at least a little bit of the social criticism that classic Simpsons did in the past. Such mindless talkshow audiences are not even exaggerated very much, and that's the scary part.
The airlifting useless crap to starving africans wasn't a dark joke. Its making fun of a bunch of business schemes already happening in USA that do exactly that. "Buy One Give One" for example. Costs the business barely anything to do it, makes customers think its a great idea, but really they're sending useless crap to africa that they don't actually need.
a friend at work is from former Yugoslavia, in 1995-96 during the war. He mentioned some random bizarre sight, there was a concession stand set up on roadside, via word of mouth. He and his mother thought it was food concession stand ie food line. His mother and he hitched a ride on a bus toward that town center. found out, they are jsut giving out BIBLES and itchy gray wool blankets. that's it. To this date He has somewhat resentment toward religion groups pretending to be helping others. ie false Christians. I honestly didn't blame him.

@@Brianh-rz4bu Sometimes the show is pretty inconsistent about such things. Here he just kills someone randomly and it's meant as the ongoing joke of Brian who can never find love and happiness. Usually it's his own fault, and the only time someone really likes him no matter what, she gets killed. It's exactly the same joke as Meg when that rich prince wanted to marry her and they killed him, and later something similar again. But, there was also that other episode where Stewie killed the psychologist and there I was surprised how he really reflected what he did. That's much more authentic to his character - he knows what he did was evil, and it makes him feel uncomfortable for a short time, but he would do it again.
