It's so good to me how this show manages it's tone. It is irreverent and crass and incredibly violent with some real pathos built in. The show isn't afraid to explore different sides of characters than you've seen, it's not afraid to do things that would piss off fans, and it's also not afraid to have genuine emotion.

That’s the idea; the same with Quagmire later trying to shut Brian down by “putting him in his place” as a dog. It’s supposed to be a power move and not pleasant and not OK either and hopefully we’re made to SEE how it is actually unpleasant and not OK, from the way it plays out.
It is a cartoon illustration of “gatekeeping” or “security” forces acting putatively on behalf of a “culture” trying to keep other people out of it, or else belittle them.
This is actually a realistic cultural point they make here.
Of course Joe is a fictional cartoon character…he deserves whatever the writers script 😂😂😂😂
