    Maserati's first-generation Gran Turismo lived a LONG time - 11 years without a major refresh, before quietly being discontinued. Now, it's returned looking subtly upgraded, still with stunning good looks, but totally different to drive and use. It's got the Nettuno twin-turbo V6 mounted entirely behind the front axle, standard all-wheel-drive, and a trick electronic rear differential, for razor-sharp handling. It has an all-new interior with all the tech you'd want and nothing more, ussable switchgear, and great seats. And while the price is high, as Matt explains, it's probably where it needs to be. Maserati's refresh of the GranTurismo gives us a lot of confidence in their ability to deliver the goods to real enthusiasts.
    Maserati provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

He said it's been relatively good the last 2/3 years, but he does only drive it on the weekends. He also put some lowering springs on it as the wheel gap was pretty horrendous. If you think the F136 V8 engines “didn’t sound that great” that’s crazy. It was a reliable engine and sounded amazing. Saying it wasn’t special if it wasn’t designed by Ferrari is pointless. Picking any good sounding engine and saying “well if it wasn’t made by so-and-so it wouldn’t be special” has the same pointlessness. It WAS designed by Ferrari. It wasn’t the most powerful engine, but had they developed it more they could have improved the 440hp figure. Compression ratio, small displacement bump, head rework, exhaust, cam reworks could pull out maybe another 40hp to make it 480hp or so. Albeit expensive, people have gone to some aftermarket exhaust to improve the power already.
      This new engine is way worse in sound and presumably in reliability too. The only way it’s “better” is in horsepower.

      @AlbertManiscalco Před 5 měsíci +5

      I agree but despite being a version of the ferrari V8 with two cylinders missing a 90 degree V6 will always be less than a thoroughbred engine. would actually rather they upgraded their last 60 degree V6 to have a closed deck since it was also designed by Ferrari, it was just optimized for mass production.

      That’s a uniquely American viewpoint - nobody in Europe would consider spending more than 75k (pounds or Euros) on a Lexus, hence as cars have gotten more expensive the brand has virtually disappeared from European markets. Their cars simply aren’t good enough to overcome Lexus’s fundamental lack of desirability.

    Love it. I would choose another color though, as they do have some really nice ones. And of course we miss the Ferrari engine, but Maserati GT is an iconic model and carries that new Maserati engine in a chassis that is made to cruise and flow through curves. It has remained consistent in styling and by now is very well developed. My brother had a deep wine colored Ferrari V8 engine Quattroporte which was very nice and quick as well, so I can imagine the GT being that sweet step up in handling and form and a classy drive as well. A solid luxurious build. I also wish it were priced a bit lower, but seeing all the competitions pricing, Maserati probably had to slot it in there. Still, if they decided to lower it a bit, they would have so many more customers who might not want the standard cars we see to much from other brands. Always nice to see a sweet Maserati GT! Would be cool to see a 2019 V8 model One Take if you haven't done one already. As for reliability, I know the V8 wasn't known to be dependable but surely a turbo, direct injected, cylinder deactivated italian engine will be worse.

In a world on porsches, which I consider it to be its direct competition...saying you drive a Porsche and saying you drive a Maserati...invoke very different responses from the individual you're talking to.
    It's like showing up in a Lamborghini or an Aston Martin...pretty close to the same price..not the Aventedor. I had an Aston Martin DB9 and it was the slowest in the group..but the reaction I received after saying I owned an Aston Martin..was from what I can see, better than my friend that owned a Lamborghini

You could apply your logic to pretty much any model comparison and keep coming to the same meaningless conclusion. The new GT63 will be around $190k plus options, so there’s your actual comparative basis. Now try again.

    I think this car will depreciate hard (at least I hope it does lol) but when it does it will be an absolute bargain. Can’t justify sticker price for it but around or just under 100 grand used, this car would be an ideal pick. Very excited to see the direction Maserati is taking & I’m sure a good tuning company like AWE can bring the V6 exhaust note to life.

    Easiest fix for your foot hitting something between the gas/brake is to use left foot braking. When I'm not driving a manual, I use left foot braking to keep my foot busy. No, I don't ride the brake. No I don't constantly hover over or rest my foot on the pedal. Much faster response time, and with a paddle shift, it's a good way to go.

    • @jeffs6090
      @jeffs6090 Před 5 měsíci

      I can't stand people who do this. Driving with the brake lights constantly on. I know you specified "you don't hover over the pedal", but it'll still happen regardless. You won't know it, but all of us behind you surely do! Maybe you're the best two foot driver out there, but I definitely wouldn't suggest to people that they do this since it's a very unsafe habit (for the people behind you) to have.

    • @durwoodrobison7800
      @durwoodrobison7800 Před 5 měsíci

      @@jeffs6090 I'm not a fan of people who assume without ever seeing me how I do it, but especially when pointing out exactly how I don't do what you assume I do. So does everyone driving a clutch automatically ride it no matter what, since clearly by your assumptions they have to rest their foot on the clutch like you assume is being done with the brakes? There's a dead pedal/flat spot to the left of the pedals for a reason. The technique I use is a valid one. Not touching the brake pedal except when applying them. Go learn how to do it, appreciate the extra control you get once you learn and thank me later.

    Maserati knocked it out of the park with this car, learned from their (few) mistakes with the last gen GT, another timeless design. You gotta figure that its target consumer is someone who already owns a bonafide supercar and this is more of a daily driver, so I am not the least bit surprised by the price tag, but as you said it makes sense and is reasonable when put into perspective. I think the more surprising fact is that the MC20 is priced so low, wouldn't be surprised to see that rise in the near future.

    • @neilturner6749
      @neilturner6749 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Bloody hell, that’s one monster of a question that I’m not even going to attempt to answer my friend, as I haven’t got all day! All I’d say is that, having it on my 4.0 718 (and Porsche generally do technical wizardry better than most) it sucks, making weird noises as it switches cylinder banks and generally not giving the smooth, uninterrupted power delivery you’d expect on an expensive car.
      Whether it delivers the 3% to 5% efficiency improvement claimed I can’t tell you, because thankfully it has one great redeeming feature - an OFF button. It’s a bit like engine start/stop - great for the official CO2 figures but a pain to live with.

    • @donkeymarco
      @donkeymarco Před 5 měsíci

      In the Nettuno engine the deactivated bank is always the right one.
      It is deactivated the injection, the ignition electrical system and all the valves put in closed position. The trapped air acts as an air spring.
      They save about 7% of fuel.
